kendall's tau-b computation (PR#2742)
Full_Name: Dan Field
Version: 1.6.2
OS: N/A
Submission from: (NULL) (209.115.168.187)
In kendall.c (library is ctest), the limits for the first loop in routine
kendall_tau run from 0 through n-1, and the inner loop runs from 0 through i-1.
This causes the each pair at index i to be compared with itself; my
understanding is that there should only be n*(n-1)/2 pairs under consideration

When models and anova(model) disagree...
I have a situation where the parameter estimates from lrm identify a
binary predictor variable ("X") as clearly non-significant (p>0.3), but
the ANOVA of that same model gives X a chi^2-df rank of > 200, and
adjudicates X and one interaction of X and a continuous measure as
highly significant. The N is massive and X has two categories, each

Just need to vent
Alice, your rant is just whining.
It's open source. If you don't like it, modify it.
You cannot compare something which you basically get for free to what is
funded by for-profit companies.

Inquiry about bandwidth rescaling in Ksmooth
Dear Sir, Madam, or to whom this may concern,
my name is Jan Failenschmid and I am a Ph.D. student at Tilburg University.
For my project I have been looking into different types of kernel regression estimators and corresponding R functions.
While comparing different functions I noticed that stats::ksmooth returned different estimates for the same bandwidth
as other kernel regression estimators

Does SQL group by have a heavy duty equivalent in R
I have hundreds of humans who have undergone SNP genotyping at hundreds of
loci. Some have even undergone the procedure twice or thrice (kind of an
internal control).
So obviously I need to find those replications, and confirm that the results
are the same. If there is discordance then I need to address it.
I tried to use the aggregate function

Digium vs. Sangoma
I don't mean to be a troll in any way shape or form. I was on IRC last night and I observed the following convo. below. What do you guys make of it ?
[02:14] <bkw__> Let me tell you how chidlish digium and Mark Spencer is. I walk into a restaurant with them all here at Astricon wearing my sangoma shirt and he asked me to leave.

Inquiry about bandwidth rescaling in Ksmooth
Apologies in advance if my comments don't help, in which case, no need
to respond, but I noted in ?ksmooth:
"bandwidth
the bandwidth. The kernels are scaled so that their quartiles (viewed
as probability densities) are at ? 0.25*bandwidth." So, could this be
a source of the discrepancies you cited?
Given that ?ksmooth explicitly says:

backgroundrb 0.2.1 not supported on windows platform?
Hi all,
I want to execute certain ruby script periodically in
my rails application running on windows platform.
I wanted to try out backgroundrb, but it seems that
the support for Windows is deprecated with release
0.2.0 of BackgrounDRb.
The latest release is 0.2.1 & the plugin still doesnt
support windows platform. Can anyone throw more light
on this?
Also, can anyone suggest any

XML issue
Debian Lenny, latest Wine.
I just installed a program that my WOW guild is raving about. Had to install
.NET 2 to get it to run. Only problem so far is that I can't open a saved
profile. It saves in XML format. That part seems ok, but I can't open it
again. The process hangs on the first of three steps, locks up, and I have
to force quit the app. I can open and read the file with a web

Experiences with CentOS & MacBook Pro?
Ok,
I'm finally of a mindset to replace my now tired, aging Dell Inspiron 600m.
I'm currently running Fedora Core on it, and am fairly happy with the
software.
Has anybody used CentOS on a Macbook Pro? What gotchas are there? (The first
that comes to mind is the lack of a right mousebutton) Scouting on the
Internet, I've seen that some people have trouble getting sound to work.

DTMF Timing and Fujitsu F9600 Switch
We're in the process of replacing an ancient Centigram-based, but
Fujitsu-labelled, voicemail system with an Asterisk solution. The system
will interface with a Fujitsu F9600 switch and use the SMDI module in
Asterisk 1.6.1.x to communicate the calling information needed to make the
interplay between the two systems work smoothly. This portion of the
project is configured and working fine, as

Set port to which Asterisk should send its answer
Hi,
I'm sending the following message from port X to port 5060 of another box running Asterisk, and it is answering back to port X from port 5060. Shouldn't Asterisk use the Via header to find out where to answer, and in this case send its answer to port 4000?

Hi Austin,
Alas, no, the program cannot be downloaded, but the CD can be ordered (free) from pariyatti.org. I would be happy to send one, but can only do so in a couple of weeks when I am in BKK (if you could send your mailing address to me privately, I would be more than happy to do so! ashin DOT sopaka at g(ee)mail dot c0m) More info about this can be found at http://www.tipitaka.org/

Re: Chattha Sangayana - bit of a challenge
Hi Austin,
As a Buddhist monk there were many reasons for choosing to go with Linux, mostly ethical. Consequently, there isn't much time to learn, coupled with electricity and internet connectivity limitations, so troubleshooting has been an OJT kinda thing. Unfortunately, what may seem to be a simple request, like "Terminal Output", is kind of another language for me, and I am not

vignettes and papers
Hello everyone
Lots of my packages have been the subject of
journal articles either in JSS or Rnews or (in one
case) elsewhere.
I would like to add these articles
to my packages as vignettes.
Reproducing the papers exactly requires a number
of files [such as style files or PDFs] to be included in
the inst/doc directory to pass R CMD check.
A vanilla .Rnw file seems to be a good idea,
but
