Planescape Torment,
Has anyone managed to get Planescape Torment in Wine yet? I've tried it in wine 1.1.36, 37, 38, 39 and 40. None work. My system just freezes and I can't manage to alt-tab to my terminal either. The forums (and the appdb) seem to indicate that this game is pretty tough to get up and running. I've tried both the fullscreen=0 (windowed) options and fullscreen=1 options. Also tried with

Problems with Planescape: Torment
Hello,
I've been having some problems with Planescape and I
can't seem to be able to solve them (I'm neither a
Linux nor a Wine wiz, if you know what I mean).
Before I state my problem, I have to say I have used 3
Wine releases, the 03/2005 one, that couldn't even
start Planescape (I got it as a binary .deb file), the
05/2005 one (Compiled from source), and the current

GTA3 problems
I'm using the current cvs version of wine and have been using Grand Theft
Auto 3 for a month or so with only a few issues. After updating and
recompiling wine last night I encountered a pretty major problem, cut
scenes refuse to end. They play through alright, but when it comes to the
end of the scene the game doesn't resume.
Out of curiosity I backed up my ~/.wine directory and used

Switching to 16-bit colour depth (from 24) - is it possible?
Hello. I'm having a bit of trouble running some old games, like Planescape Torment (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22660&iTestingId=61130) (the GOG.com version). When I try to start the game, it complains about the desktop bit depth (I have 24 as default, and it requires 16-bit).
The game suggests I should either run it in fullscreen (which I am), or to

Radeon 4800 or Ati in general viable for wine?
Longtime lurker and user of wine, but I'm about to replace my old nvidia card with a newer model and seeing as Ati is open sourcing their drivers. I was wondering if I should get a 4800 card, but only if the fglrx or x86-radeon driver is up to the task :)
Like can it run direct3d 9 games like Eve?
How about 2d performance in games like fallout 2 and planescape torment?

Problems running some games that used to work before
I used to play GTA3 with only a few minor niggles a while back and thought
I'd give it a try with the most recent version of wine. I decided to do a
full test, from installing to actually playing the game. The installation
went perfectly but when ever I start wine now I get this error:

System directory L"%SystemRoot%\\system" is not accessible
Hey, all,
Running Wine 20050111 under SuSE 9.2 (SuSE 9.2 package from
sourceforge.net).
Wine was working fine until about an hour ago; I had several programs
installed and working and did not have this error (afaik).
Then I decided to install Septerra Core (

it is of no use in debugging, because the demo install does

Wine sometime really surprise me
Software as Application, can always find a replacement. (Well most of the time) But Software as Games, there is good chance that you will never find a replacement. They are their own unique Art. (Classical games is another story, such as chess, and those "public domain") In order words, doesn't matter how old a game might be. it will not get obsolesce.

Switching to 16 bit colour ...
"bit of trouble" - good pun!
But I do hope it gets solved. Can you make a bash file (oh no - a pun of my own!) to automate any of those annoyances? Would putting the game "in its own WINE" help at all?
Cheers,
Jake

The pros and cons of a wiki AppDB

There are a lot of apps without maintainers, and there might be users of those apps who would be willing take a few minutes to post bits of useful information in a wiki, but don't want the responsibility of being a maintainer. Sure, they could just post info in a comment, but user comments are

Problem registering to the AppDB
Hi,
for some reason I can't register to the AppDB with my
email.
When I press the "Create Account" button at the bottom
of the form, I only get a page with the AppDB logo and
the CodeWeavers ad. No message or email that the
registration succeeded, no error message. :(
When trying to browse the AppDB again, I only get a
white page until I delete the AppDB cookie.

Wine 1.00 the AppDB and State of the Winehq website.
In looking forward to the release of wine 1.0 I have a question about "Browse Applications by Rating"
http://appdb.winehq.org/browse_by_rating.php
When adding test data you can only add reports on what looks like the last 6 releases? Eg wine versions 0.956 / 0.957 /0.958 /0.959 /0.960
/0.961
Do these stat's on "Browse Applications by Rating" report this?
If not what does

If possible can that report be added and selected from the bugzilla intro page.

AppDB instructions
Hey Gang,
I'm new here so I get to as a few dumb questions without feeling too dumb about it... Several posts have been kind enough to include links to the AppDB pages, which I have been using, but I don't find there the instructions people allude to. All I find in AppDB pages is lists and rankings and images and basically a report of how well it works and less about how to make it

Website: appdb feedback for older versions of wine?
Hi,
I have Ubuntu Hardy, which is a LTS (long term support) release. This means it'll be supported for a while. But it also means that there's a base of users of an older version of Wine that will want to try out programs but will want to see how an app performs against the Wine version they're using.
To that end, I'd love to contribute to the Wine appdb, but the appdb
