Running Modern Warfare 2 on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty.
My hardware is Intel Core i7 4GB ram, Nvidea GeForce 310m graphics card. I installed my graphics drivers in Ubuntu 11.04 using the recommended techniques. My video drivers are noted as experimental however all features and 3D support is working in Ubuntu 11.04 gnome environment. I did not use the .run file downloadable from the Nvidea website. I have read the sticky about no sound. I have no sound

glitchy sound with steam (half-life 2) under intrepid
I upgraded my machine from Ubuntu Hardy to Intrepid and now I get stuttering audio. I'm running the closed-source nvidea driver and a realtime kernel, like before the upgrade. Any ideas as to how I can speed up audio? -- David Griffith dgriffi at cs.csubak.edu A: Because it fouls the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? Remastering an RPM based distribution – How To
From my work with Fedora, I have a reasonably complete How To Guide that presently runs about 30 pages. Although the process of remastering a distribution is not complex (once it is understood), explaining the how and why of each step does get a bit verbose. For distributions like Fedora that have frequent updates and no decimal releases, having an up to date copy for subsequent installs is a

I just installed Centos 5 for my notebook (HP compaq nc4010) on a separate drive (than this one that has Centos 4.5). When I first booted after all the setup, X did not start. hmm. Rebooted, and X came up fine. I did a bunch of customizing and upgraded the kernel Rebooted, X did not start. Rebooted X started fine. I checked some things out then tried the Suspend feature. Not

Lightweight ODBC DB
Glenn, I can't use MySQL as each node currently has MySQL however there is a lot of data that is stored locally on each box. I may have to take this route if I can't find something else but that would mean syncing all sorts of data that does not need to be synced. What are the chances that a package such as vlc from http://videolan.org/vlc would become included in extras? so a yum install vlc would work. Thanks, Jerry

New VLC (0.8.6) packages?
Anyone know where I could find this package for Centos 4.4 x86_64? I've googled all over and haven't been able to find anything more current the 0.8.4a. I'm not much of a programmer, but if someone could point me at a "packaging for dummies" perhaps I could have a go at creating a package if one doesn't already exist? Cheers,

vlc?
Hey, folks, a co-worker raves that vlc is the bestestplaysthemostformats media player there is, including being able to resize videos. I see it's only over on repoforge for CentOS, but trying to install it at home (I'm running 5.8, 32-bit), it wants about 30 or more dependencies, and one or two of them, of course, have conflicts. Has anyone installed it in a 5.x environment? If so,
