Wine success: HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
I had need of a bit of computer archeology (oddly enough, for a couple
of archaeologists, but that's another story). I used Henry Bartlett'
HABit Wordstar Converter (version 3)
(http://www.hotkey.net.au/~hambar/habit/wsconvrm.htm) to convert some
Wordstar for Mess-DOS files to text and HTML. It worked just fine
under wine (http://www.winehq.org). wine-20041201-1fc3winehq on Fedora

Delorme Street Atlas 8 and ISO images
Being lazy, I'd just as soon not be swapping CDs in and out of the CD
drive to use Street Atlas 8. So I slurped the SA 8 data CD into an ISO
image, which I then mount as a loopback device. I created a symlink in
~/.wine/dosdevices, s: (and it took me a while to get the syntax for
that right :-). winefile and fn.exe
(http://www.charlescurley.com/fn.html) have no problems with the iso
image.

Wine on Fedora Core 4: Street Atlas 8 & wineconsole issues
I just did a fresh installation of Fedora Core 4, using my home
directories from FC3, including my .wine.
In the FC3 environment, I had used winetools to install. I did not
want to do a fresh installation of wine, just use an RPM that would
work. Alas, I had to fall back to 20041201.
SA 8:
I installed and uninstalled wine-20050524-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm,

Street Atlas 8.0 Extractor
I mentioned earlier that I had DeLorme Street Atlas 8.0 working on
wine. It comes with a separate program, the extractor. This will pull
parts of the map CD and store them locally so that the main program
does not have to refer to the CD for those parts of the map.
I had one problem which I overcame: it was looking for h:\refnc. I
have no idea why it was looking on h:, as the CD-ROM is on d: and

Can I run windows console (command line) applications using WINE
Hi,
I understand Windows UI applications can run in Linux using wine.
1. Can I run console/command line applications also?
2. If yes, a how can a shell script running on Linux invoke the
console/command line application. (A sample would be great)
Thanks,
Susheel

matrix inversion using solve() and matrices containing large/small values
Hello
I've stumbled upon a problem for inversion of a matrix with large values,
and I haven't found a solution yet... I wondered if someone could give a
hand. (It is about automatic optimisation of a calibration process, which
involves the inverse of the information matrix)

Access Database SLOW
I've got a user that wants an Access database shared out. I've got a decent
machine serving out the directory (300 MHz Pentium II) running RedHat 5.0
(kernel 2.0.34) with Samba 1.9.17p4 (RPM is samba-1.9.17p4-3). I've created
a simple share entry in the smb.conf file:
[global]
debug level = 1
browsable = yes
comment = Samba under Linux (RedHat 5.0)

Libvirt dnsmasq oddity
I seem to have hit an oddity in how dnsmasq operates for libvirt.
I have two host machines each with several guests. One of those is also
the local samba server. Guests on the non-samba server can resolve the
samba server's host name correctly, so far without fail.
Guests on the samba server sometimes get the correct IP address for the
samba server, and other times get an IP address for the

Controlling Cisco 7960 Ringtone from Asterisk
I'm trying to change the ring tone on my 7960 from the dialplan. I've
tried the example on the wiki but it doesn't seem to work. Something like:
exten => 3010,1,SetVar(ALERT_INFO=<Bellcore-dr1>) ; selects Ringer
exten => 3010,2,Dial(SIP/3010,15)
I'm not sure what the Bellcore-dr1 ringer is supposed to be. I've tried
replacing ALERT_INFO with another ring tone

Charles,
If you are accessing data from both a Samba
share via Win32 and via a UNIX program the UNIX program
will see old data unless you turn off

Ruby on Rails: Talk | Google Groups
This is more an architectural question....
I am looking to create a domain that sells widgets (as an example)
widgets.com
Now I have three sales reps, that each sell different kinds of
widgets, and do not need to know about each other.
larry.widget.com
moe.widget.com
curley.widget.com
I don''t want to repeat myself (of course!) with the shopping cart
logic or the transactional

start_form_tag n00b question
Hi,
I''m wondering if there is any way to specify the id of a form tag with the
start_form_tag helper. I''ve tried playing around with ", id=>"marginForm" "
and also inclosing both the action variable and id variable in curley
brackets. The Rails API doesn''t off much help for a n00b like me. It''s
probably really easy but any help you guys

Public shares w/ security = user
Configuration: RedHat 5.0 w/ Samba 1.9.18p8. My servers don't do domain
logins. I picked a workgroup called OCALA-CIM for it. I have clients
connecting from standalone desktops w/o domain logins to anyone and
others that connect from desktops that are fully logged into a NT
domain, which is called ACCT03 and these desktops seem to be mostly
setup to be in a workgroup called EMC.
My main samba

smbstatus show open files when none are
I recently (a few weeks ago) installed 1.9.18p8 in order
to get better performance with an Access Database, which along
with adding a TCP_NODELAY in the [global] section has that
working like a charm. Thing that's bugging me now is smbstatus.
When I run it I see open files listed when I know that they aren't.
The following output shows quite a few files open that aren't
really. The

[LLVMdev] Strange crash with LLVM 3.3
Hi,
We are embedding our DSL language + LLVM in a modified WebKit based Safari on OSX. Starting with LLVM 3.3 (it was working with LLVM 3.1...) we see the following crash:
Any idea?
Thanks.

Cache Problems!!!!!
I've got a system setup where a Win95 client (written in Visual C++ 5.0)
presents a user with a GUI that collects information about hardware that
he/she would like to produce. This information is used to build a path
to the directory that contains the files to load into one of the
production machines. For example, through the use of menus and such the
user indicates that they would like to run

Replication between Samba DCs (on different sites)?
Hi!
Should replication between two Samba DCs Just Work after joining
a second DC to the domain? We always were running a single DC
(historically it was just a single server anyway), now I've added
another DC, located in a remove office, but there's no replication
of any kind.
Should it be configured somehow?
The initial data seems to be copied fine at the time of domain join,
but no

Asterisk cann't redirect the calling party to anothere Exten.
Hi All,
I use the Asterisk Manager Interface to redirect the channels.
There have two channels :
SIP/voip_out_22-809c (None) Up Bridged Call(SIP/612-5456)
SIP/612-5456 s@macro-monitor:10 Up Dial(SIP/0882@voip_out
Then I send a redirect request like below :
