Multimedia on Centos 5
Dear friends:
Is there a single source for the multimedia applications that are not included
with Centos 5: RealPlayer, Mplayer, mplayerplug-in, Acrobat Reader, Java,
libdvdcss, etc.?
Would appreciate your help.
Thank you so much.

Formatting hdb?
Dear friends:
Using Centos 5.
I have two physical drives. During install, I made sure to check hdb as well
as hda. Both were listed as partitions (which is correct). But my fstab file
does not show hdb. How do I make sure that hdb has been formatted and is part
of my file system. If hdb is not formatted, how do I format it, please. Sorry
for the question. I am a newbie.

Java installs but won't play
Dear friends:
I installed Sun's Java manually by downloading their Red Hat RPM. I followed
instructions and the install came off fine (Done!), but when I try to play
it, it won't work. I imagine that I probably need to create a symbolic link
to the plugin. Here is the info:

Word97 launches but still cannot save or load
Dear friends:
Thanks to Ekkehard, I found out how to launch Word97. I went to
the .wine/drive_c directory and then (using quotes around "Program Files"
and "Microsoft Office") I cd's to where Winword.exe was and then typed,
within this subdirectory: wine WINWORD.EXE. That launched Word97 at last.
But when I try to save a document, all I get is the first letter of the file

Via C3 and CentOS5
Hi,
I have an Asus terminator C3 with 512Mb. It has a Via P3-800Mhz
CPU, with a VIA chipset. It's currently running FC6. I wanted to
wipe the machine and install CentOS5.
It boots from the CD to the linux prompt, then it fully loads
vmlinux, then starts initrd.img, and somewhere at that point it
reboots.
I have tried: noapic, noapm, noprobe. Same, somewhere during
initrd.img or at then

MSWord97 installs properly but still won't launch (or save?)
Dear friends:
I've been trying for some time to install my copy of Word97 (which I
own, having purchased it directly from Microsoft with my own license
number). I have tried the latest Wine 0.9.14. To do this, I first
UNinstalled version 0. 9.1-4 (PCLINUXOS), then installed the new wine
from source. The source install asked me to install a number of font
files, which I did (bison,

Problem SAVING and LOADING documents in Crossoffice Wine Word97
Dear friends:
I am using PCLINUXOS version .92.
My problem, simply put, is that I cannot SAVE or LOAD documents in
MSWord97 using the older Codeweavers Crossover Office Wine 1.3.5.
Thinking the problem might be resolved in the latest Crossover Office 5,
I downloaded the Tryout version but the same problem occurs (i.e. at
least for me) in this latest version. In fact, it wouldn't even

Installing Office on Crossover
Dear friends:
I have been trying to install MSOffice using Crossover. I have an old

the CrossoverOffice Set up. Support for them has expired, but both
programs uinstalled fine into their own directory in KDE. But I do have

Urgent FreeBSD Boot question!
Dear friends:
I decided to go out and buy the latest issue of Linux Format with the
FreeBSD 6 CD. I am very glad I did. FreeBSD is tough to install, but
after spending several hours I finally succeeded in doing a perfect
installation. ONE BIG PROBLEM: When I removed the CD and rebooted, I got
into my Windows XP (I have two separate disks, one for Windows, one of
FreeBSD). There was no way to get

RPMS's -- Standalone or From Sources?
Dear friends:
[Using the Centos 4.4 DVD)
I will spend the next few days reading the documentation for Centos/RedHat.
But meanwhile, I would like, while reading it, to listen to my favorite radio
programs which require RealPlayer. So, my question is simply: should I
download the RealPlayer RPM from www.real.com or should I download it from an
rpm repository source? While I am at, what about

URGENT: Skip installation ix86 packages from kickstart on 64bit arch?
Hi,
Has any one know how to skip ix86 packages from
installation in Centos kickstart? Most of our machines
have 64bit Intel/AMD CPUs, and it make non-sense to
still keep 32bit compatibility. Even worse of i*86
packages is, when upgrade we have to recompile both
ix86 version and x86_64 version to get an automatic
yum upgrade.
I know we could use 'exclude' option to exclude i*86
packages

Overwrite target of ln
Hi all,
Sorry if this seems too basic.
But is there a way to overwrite the target of a symbolic link without
first deleting the symlink itself?
For example, if I have this:
public_html -> releases/b2b-20080228
... and there's a new update, I can then just do the following:
$ ln releases/site-latest public_html
I tried using the -f option but it doesn't seem to work as expected.

where is xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.37.7.i386?
Hi all,
I don't see xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.37.7.i386.rpm in the CentOS4
x86_64 updates repo. It is listed in the security announcement:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2007-April/013658.html
I see the 4 other i386 packages there: devel, deprecated-libs,
Mesa-libGL, and Mesa-libGLU. Just the libs package is missing.

Input buffer requirement.
Hi all,
I am in the thinking phase of Vorbis 'file' to 'buffer' conversion.
ie, accessing the stream data from the static buffer, rather than
accessing the file from the decoder( the way it is implemented in the
vorbis decoder).
I am putting my understanding and the respective query below,
As the general convention , there are two methods by which i can do this.
