What I Want For Christmas
Calling All Mongrel Minions! I wanna have some fun and would like this as a Christmas present. The site http://www.workingwithrails.com/ has this lame popularity system that''s kind of irking some of the main Ruby contributors. I think it''s kind of funny, but would like to demonstrate what an army of motivated people can do to these kinds of popularity contests. So, as a

I am a newbie and I would like some help deciding w hat operating system
Hi Kevin/All, I''m a rails/ruby noob. Have put a rails app in production on Windows :-) We have put our java apps in production using SUSE. If you can throw some light On "SUSE is gorgeous but slow" -- it will help us. Is only ruby/rails slow on Suse OR is it considered to be generally slow distro for all apps ? If slow for most apps, how much Performance hit is that ?

[SEC] Latest LiteSpeed ruby-lsapi does not vulnerable to the cgi.rb 99% CPU DoS attack
Hi, First, my thanks to Zed for including LiteSpeed in cgi.rb vulnerability report. Appreciated! I just got time to review ruby-lsapi code and test the vulnerability against LiteSpeed. I found that, in our latest ruby-lsapi release 1.11, lsapi_read() function returns Qnil when the end of request body has been reached. So, in theory, LiteSpeed should not be vulnerable to this attack. Our test

Does anybody out there use Litespeed?
I''ve heard good things about Litespeed but all the documentation I''ve found doesn''t reflect the new 3.3 version. The older 2 and 1 versions are just so different. I''ve gone down the road with the old docs and it''s always a dead end. I''d be happy to pay or trade code or some kind of programming favors for some help in this area. I''ve

Debugging high CPU with Mongrel
I''m running a site that gets ~30k to 40k page hits per day. In the last 4 days my mongrel processes have been jumping into high CPU usage a couple of times a day to the point where my site becomes unresponsive (database on a diff machine with no load). The only way for me to resolve the problem and reduce load on the machine is to delete my rails cache directory (I have plenty of space

LiteSpeed Web Server 2.2 with Ruby Rails integration....
Fellow Rail users and developers, Right now the easiest way to run Rails is in combination with Mongrel. However, it may not be a good idea to expose Mongrel directly to the outside world in a high-load production environment. In-addition, Mongrel_cluster + proxy + load balancer have to be used even for a single server deployment making the unified setup more complicated than needs be.

Mongrel 1.0.1 Officially Released
Alright folks, after nearly a month of pounding and beating up the Mongrel 1.0 RC1 release we''re putting out the official 1.0.1 release. Read all about it at the (much funnier) news posting: http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/news.html For those people in a hurry, the gems should hit the mirrors and you can install using your usual commands. Refer the the above page for more help.

MongrelDay Documentation -- Memoirs Of A Web Server
Happy RailsDay! While everyone else was out having fun with RailsDay I spent my time wisely and wrote up tons of documentation for Mongrel and cleaned out some of the docs I''ll never write anyway. I also took the time to apply some nice patches from Jonas Pfenniger for easily setting up redirects in Mongrel. Some of the highlighted documents people will be interested in are: *

which webserver to use in production?
Apologies in advance if this ignites a war of comflicting opinions.... I''m a few days away from going live with my first RoR application. It is completely database centric and each user will have his own queries so cacheing will not really help. I have a dedicated linux server being built by my hosting provider and I need to tell them which webserver to use. The databse is MySQL

Can someone please explain Lighttpd + Mongrel + Rails.
I know that Mongrel is a web server that hosts rails applications. But i don''t understand what part Lighttpd (or Apache) has in the setup. I know that you can use Mongrel on its own. What does Lighttpd improve on? Thanks, Chris -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Rails Camp Scaling Session notes
Here are some notes from the scalability session of last week''s Rails camp. They were entered by another session participant and are posted at: http://www.rubyonrailscamp.com/10%3A15%2Bsession%2B-%2Bscaling The key points from my point of view: - the Ruby VM is sketchy, rather like the Java VM around 1997 - the single threaded nature of Rails dispatch handling means we may incur a

Mongrel in Production ?
Hi Everyone, I was setting up Lighty+Fcgi on our server for last *couple* ( read zillion ) of hours. I had posted my problems in my previous email. But all in vain.. So, for time being, I switched to Mongrel. And the performance seemed quite good. This is the first time ever I''m using mongrel ( Awesome stuff ZedShaw..Thanks! ). I''m wondering if there are many people around

TST is right out
Hi Zed, I checked in a pure-Ruby URI classifier to Mongrel trunk. Ola''s Java port of the TST had some bug, and I don''t think it''s necessary in the first place. The Ruby classifier is around 25 lines instead of the 400-odd lines for the C extension and the 200-odd for the Java extension. It uses a Regexp which is perhaps shady: @matcher = Regexp.new(routes.map do

recommended setup of Mongrel_cluster + SSL for multiple apps?
I''d like to use Mongrel_cluster with SSL on a green-field application (it can be configured however is best - initially, "ease of setup" is important, but then soon after will be scaling and response time). I''ve read a lot of emails on this topic, and checked out the Mongrel pages, etc, but I''m left with this question of what is recommended: For a

Is there a place for java in Ruby on Rails apps?
Hi all, I''m asking this question from the standpoint of a developer with almost 10 years experience with Microsoft technologies, mostly doing server side component and database work. So, I''m not very familiar with the java world. Can anyon tell me how/if java development can complement Ruby on Rails development? I''m not interested in how java can duplicate Rails
