Christmas mail
Dear NUT users and developers,
A bit later than usual, here is the traditional end of the year mail
to sum up the past year, think about the future and make some
announcements.
Those of you who have followed closely the project already know: 2008
has been a harder year than ever.
And the UPS world has somehow finished a full revamp cycle, started 2 years ago!

NUT Christmas mail
Dear NUT users and developers,
Like the other years, before taking a small rest, here are some news
related to NUT.
* First, you should have seen the 2.0.5-pre1 release announcement.
I don't think 2.0.5 is very far, but I realized that I've made an
archive including the .svn directory (bad, bad me. I should know that
release are made against exported svn, not checked out!)

Update on NUT 2.4 roadmap
I finally took some time to lay down a consolidated roadmap to the
next major milestone (2.4), and some update on this.
1) new documentation (User and Developer Manuals)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the biggest change for 2.4.
We will use the new test.networkupstools.org website to create and
maintain the content, based upon the

Finding MGE units in North America (was: NUT online compatibility lists)
this is a bit off topic, but as there is a growing demand for our
sponsor in North America, these can be helpful to others...

MGE ellipse 1200 config and documentation
Hi,
I have recently purchased MGE ellipse 1200 UPS for my home system. Obviously,
the choice of this particular brand was mainly dictated by MGE's
long-standing support for Linux and NUT project. The fact that the box was
clearly the prettiest looking one on the block did help also ;-). I have had
NUT tools installed and configured in no time, as I did it numerous times
before -- kudos

About the new NUT website and the documentation rewrite project
Dear all,
I've released a first "beta" version of the rewritten website using
the MoinMoin wiki (as a CMS).
It's available here: http://test.networkupstools.org/
This way, the website is cuter, cleaner and more manageable.
It will also allows to offer more services, and to share some more
power for the website content, and software releases.
It will most of all allows us to

[nut-commits] svn commit r1207 - in trunk: . include
Hi Charles,
while finishing the Testing release, I faced an autoreconf issue on
Testing, linked to the below change (to its non application on Testing
in fact):
include/Makefile.am:9: shell unset LANG && svnversion -n $(top_srcdir:
non-POSIX variable name

NUT in the press
As I've stated some time ago, NUT is more and more embedded in
appliances, such as the Synology x07 NAS models and Opengear network
units.
I'm working for some time with these two manufacturers to see how NUT
can be improved for a better user experience.
There was a small article on Linux Devices about Opengear devices and ?Clinux:

Availability of the driver for MGE* Network Management Cards (mge-xml)
Dear users,
This mail is to announce the beta availability of the mge-xml driver
in NUT's trunk.
This (overdue) driver allows to support MGE* (UPS Systems and Office
Protection Systems) Network Management Cards.
This development is sponsored by MGE Office Protection Systems, which
is also the NUT sponsor, web hoster and (new) benefactor in general.
This driver offers similar services to the

APC/MGE and NUT support
Hi,
Perhaps as you know it Schneider Electric acquired APC, which involves
the combination of APC and MGE. http://www.apc-mge.com
MGE is an important contributor for NUT with for example Arnaud Quette,
it's does not that the MGE strategy for the free software is stopped by
Schneider Electric or APC.
It is the good moment to make pressure on Schneider Electric, MGE and
APC to support the

Problems with MGE ESV 8+ and NUT 2.0.3
Hello, I recently had a failure with my old MGE ESV8 ups, it just died
on me so I had to get a new one. I found a MGE ESV8+ cheap and
everything seems to work fine with it except the communication with the
computer. The old ESV8 (non +) worked fine with NUT after applying some
patches I got from the mailing list, but I think they are in the source
tree now. I'm using the same cable that
