[LLVMdev] [PATCH] MC: handle .cfi_startproc simple
Really sorry I missed this. Just found it looking for something else
in my inbox.
I think we should support this but
* We should still err on other identifiers ".cfi_startport bar" is invalid.
* If I read the gas documentation correctly, the effect of "simple" is
to skip the initial cfi instructions. We should test if that is the
case and implement it too. Accepting and

[LLVMdev] MC: Object file specific parsing
Hi Daniel,
attached is a patch that pushes most of the object file specific parsing
out of AsmParser and down into MachOAsmParser. This was done as a
cleanup for the ELF work. I know that you're not happy with this
approach, particularly the fact that as we add more object file formats
and assembler dialects, it's going to cause a class explosion. But I was
hoping that we could use this

New patch. Thanks for all of your comments !

I don't have commit access, if you find it ok, please commit it. :)

[LLVMdev] Question about linking llvm-mc when porting a new backend
Hello all,
I am a LLVM newer who want to add a new backend(EBC) into LLVM. After coping
the related
files from another target and modifying it, I meet a problem when I build
the project. The
error message is as follows:

[LLVMdev] MC ELF support
Hi Matt,
Awesome! This is excellent progress, and it is great to see someone
working on this.
High level comments:
(1) The order of patches is odd, to me. It would be great to start by
adding the AsmParser support, then the MCStreamer support, so that we
can have test cases in the 'llvm-mc cat' mode, where it just parses
and prints out again.

[LLVMdev] Win32 COFF Support - Patch 3
Hi Michael,
Overall patch looks good. I do have a few comments below. My main
comment is please try to make the style match that used in the
MCMachOStreamer more closely. I intend to refactor more functionality
into the base MCObjectStreamer class, and having them use consistent
idioms makes this easier; specific instances are included in the

[LLVMdev] Intro to the MC Project
Hi Chris,
Thanks for taking time to communicate on this.
In your open points, you speak about upgrading the JIT code path. If I want
to take a look (or at least try...) on it, what would be the "roadmap" ?
I assume, a MCJITStreamer is needed.
And probably a JITObjectWriter (inherits from MCObjectWriter) and an
associated TargetAsmBackend specific to the JIT (JITX86AsmBackend) ?

Assembly file compilation flow
I think a key point to understand is the MCStreamer interface, which has two implementations: one for object-file generation, and one for .s file generation. CodeGen/AsmPrinter can attach to either of these implementations. MCAsmParser will generally attach to the object-file version of MCStreamer.

I do have an opinion, but don't have enough time to comment in much depth. The approximate approach I had in mind sounds like what you describe, though, the JITObjectWriter is the core piece, the other pieces probably fall into place as it becomes obvious if they are needed.
It should be pretty straightforward to bring up something which works for running code with no external symbols, if you

[LLVMdev] MC ARM ELF local common variable alignment.
Hi all,
I noticed that the static local variable(internal global in .bc) is
not aligned in ARM ELF(use MC(-filetype=obj)).
Then I found that the alignment information is lost at:
lib/CodeGen/AsmPrinter/AsmPrinter.cpp:316
if (MAI->hasLCOMMDirective()) {
// .lcomm _foo, 42
OutStreamer.EmitLocalCommonSymbol(GVSym, Size);
return;
}

So I will give it a try. :)

[LLVMdev] MC-JIT Streamer 1/3
I cleaned up the indentation in the three patches and attached them. Please let me know if there are other issues. The patches should all apply cleanly with the latest revision. I will wait with submitting more patches until the MCJITSTreamer has been reviewed and checked in.
Thanks,
