[Very OT] Steve Jobs, is he sick?
For us "Railers" on Mac systems we all probably watched Steve Job''s
keynote at the WWDC yesterday. Was it just me, or did Steve look
"sick"? I mean he has lost a lot of weight and his skin was very drawn.

If you plan to attend Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)
in June, and are interested in LLVM, please consider attending the

[LLVMdev] LLVM @ WWDC
If you're at WWDC and interested in LLVM, please drop in to the "New
Compiler Technology and Future Directions" talk at 3:30 in the "Soma"
room on Tuesday. If you can't make it, I believe that the talks are
being taped and will be available on iTunes sometime after WWDC is over.

WWDC Puppeteer lunch
Reminder for Mac Puppeteers going to WWDC
How about we meet for lunch at noon on Tuesday. Let''s try to get the
table closet to the Odwalla refrigerator, just for reference. We can
get more specific on this list on the 8th after we verify the set up.
I might even get there a little earlier and put down "reserved" tags.

Playing Theora video in Keynote on MacOS X
Hi all,
I have XiphQT installed and have some Ogg theora videos I would like
to play in Apple's Keynote presentation software. They play fine in
iTunes using XiphQT but don't work in Keynote. I have each video in
two formats: (1) in a ".ogg" file, and (2) in a ".mov" file created
by opening the ".ogg" file in QuickTime Pro and saving it as a

Want To Listen To Chad Fowler''s Keynote Presentation?
Chad Fowler gave two keynote presentations at CUSEC 2006 in January.
The second one he gave was entitled "Rails is Boring and Ruby is a
Toy" and is available through the SOENlive podcast. For those
handful who might of not heard of Chad Fowler yet, he is the author
of "Rails Recipes" which is presently available as a beta book.
(Great book, you should get it out)

Digium Asterisk World at ITEXPO - Yahoo keynote update
I don't know how many of you are going to be at ITEXPO/Digium Asterisk
World in Miami next week - I hope to see as many of you as possible,
though.
There has been an interesting change in the line-up for the show, that
I think bears mentioning here since it possibly will help quite a few
of you in your discussions about getting Asterisk into your company.
We've had the good

Bad results, encoding keynote presentation videos
Hello,
hope you can help me. I want to encode a video, which I have exported
from Keynote (a program for presentation like MS Power Point) using
ffmpeg2theora for html5 web delivery.
The result only plays very buggy - frames are dropped, the video hangs
and vlc can not output the correct length of the ogv video.
Here is the source and the result for download, if you want to reproduce it:

Create Slide Shows (PowerPoint/KeyNote-Style) Using Markdown using the Slide Show (S9) Ruby Gem
Hello,
I've published a Ruby gem that lets you create slide shows and
author slides in plain text using a wiki-style markup language that's
easy-to-write and easy-to-read. Yes, that's Markdown. (Textile is
supported too ;-)
You can find two samples online in Markdown:

Asterisk in the third world - Astricon 2010 keynote follow-up
Friends,
After listening to Mark Summer's keynote at Astricon (hopefully soon on the Astricon web site) I think we should come back to the discussion he started. Mark talked about using Open Source in general and Asterisk in particular in third world projects as well as in emergencies in other countries. He and Inveneo help groups of people to get a better understanding of how to build

[LLVMdev] A cool use of LLVM at Apple: the OpenGL stack
[I just got official okay to mention this in public. This was previously
announced at Apple's WWDC conference last week.]
For those who are interested, Apple announced that they are using the LLVM
optimizer and JIT within their Mac OS 10.5 'Leopard' OpenGL stack (which
was distributed in beta form to WWDC attendees).
LLVM is used in two different ways, at runtime:

[LLVMdev] Apple to move to Intel CPU's
Apple are to move over to Intel CPU's :-
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/jun/06intel.html
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4612951.stm
Big shame, narrowing of the market, and probably the end of the PowerPC.

[LLVMdev] Apple to move to Intel CPU's
I wouldn't count the PowerPC out entirely, as it will continue to be
used in game platforms (and maybe other embedded platforms?). But
yes, in the desktop hardware market, it seems there's now only one game
in town.

Steve Jobs about theora
I guess you've all read it already, but here it goes:
"All video codecs are covered by patents. A patent pool is being
assembled to go after Theora and other ?open source? codecs now.
Unfortunately, just because something is open source, it doesn?t mean
or guarantee that it doesn?t infringe on others patents. An open
standard is different from being royalty free or open source.

[asterisk-dev] Astricon 2008 updates: keynotes, content, contests
Astricon is only 54 days away! If you're not
booked, please take a moment to register for the
conference, get your hotel room, and get your
plane tickets before things fill up and/or get
expensive. This is a great opportunity to meet
other developers, users, and members of the
Asterisk ecosystem, and I encourage everyone to
attend. While there are great things to be said
about the
