Direct3D natively on Linux through Gallium?
I have just read from Phoronix that Gallium is going to support native directx on Linux.

Is it really possible?
Is this true?

how to use directx10/11?
Can anyone tell me or point me to information telling me what is the
correct way to use directx 10 or 11 for games in Wine, what do I need to
install to do so, and do I then need to use a special tag (like the
-opengl tag) when starting a game?
I have been googling and having a hard time making sense of the
information I have been finding. Some places reference a 'wine dx10' and

Tell me the truth about WINE
I'm an avid gamer, I play all kinds of games and a wide variety of specific
titles, be they on the A-list or B-list. How realistic would it be for a
person like me to rely solely on WINE for PC gaming? I understand that the
pace with which WINE can catch up is relatively quick (a few months), but a
few months is still a long time to wait if I'm itching to get started on a
new release. I

Can I play any Win7 game on Linux?
Hi, I am apprehensive about buying the Windows 7 for my new desktop PC ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig_b41uOQCg ) and pay more than 100 euros for it. I don't have enough money before I get the student loans after New Year 2012, and I was wondering if I could get Linux somewhere today or before Christmas holidays.
Before I decide, tell me, can I play any Win7 game I like on Linux, by

Who asking users to install native DirectX?
More and more poor clueless users getting to nowhere installing that stuff according to some howtos. Who are writing those? And why are they directing people to install it in the first place?
The only person I've found who created that howto everyone links to - Tom Wickline states EXPLICITLY THAT THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY!!! AND NOT TO BE USED WITH ANY REAL LIFE APPLICATION!

Status of Wine and DX10
Hi All
I'm new to this list. Would anyone kindly tell me what is the level of
progress of Wine toward DX10 implementation?
Thank you!

Questions about bug reporting for DX10 games
In this forum post : http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=9260 , it has been suggested that we test DX10 games and that we report issues.
However, with only about 5% of the entire implementation done, we can expect a lot of things to not work properly. Hence, I was wondering how would it be best to proceed with reporting. Is it recommended to test with winetricks d3dx10, or clean wine? What

Running Wine on Win64
Hi all
I'm wondering if it would be possible to run Wine on Win64 ("x64") to
allow Win16 apps to be run? Preferably a native 64-bit binary, using
mostly native DLLs. (Services for Unix / Subsystem for Unix based
Applications might help for getting Wine compiled)
It might be a great way to get more users and developers for Wine.

Wine on Windows 7... Anyone actually tried?
Oi.
So. Now we have a version of windows that actually has legit uses for wine.
Windows 7 can't run horrifyingly outdated 16bit programs(Such as Exile Escape from the Pit) period. Atleast so Ive herd--and tried and seen to seem to be true. Not to mention a multitude of programs that SHOULD run--but just dont like it(Worms Armageddon, for one... though dunno if it works on wine)

Halo2 and msvc issues
Greetings.
Since Halo 2 still doesn't seem to work in Wine, or at least noone put an entry saying it worked up in AppDB, I decided to give it another shot using 1.0-rc1.
I have no hope that the original version (which is Vista-only) will ever EVER work in Wine, so I got me the dopeman XP version. This is cracked or something to work with XP.
This version does not use an installer, but instead

DirectX 8.0
Hi,
I'm trying to install the game "Aquanox" under Wine which needs DirectX 8.0.
I've found a mail in the wine mailing list archive stating that wine already
includes DirectX, but Aquanox keeps complaining about a missing d3d8.dll.
Trying to install DirectX 8.0, I end up with "DirectX couldn't be installed
on this computer".
Any hints on this one?

Help with debugging Fable
So I'm trying to get Fable working, and after going through the various things that I had found on the 'net, it's still not working. So I am wondering what else I could do?
I installed DirectX 9, Windows Media Player, and Fable itself without much trouble. The game boots and goes through the splashscreen and opening animation, and then quits. I looked briefly through the output on the

DirectX problems
Hi,
Maybe you've talked about this many times before, but i've got a problem with
DirectX.
When i try to run any application that uses DirectX it just tells me that i
don't have it installed on my system. The fact is that i do have it
installed, and works fine in Windows ME, maybe the version is too recent? i'm
using DirectX 7.
My system is:

DirectX: cab file cannot be trusted
When I'm trying to install DirectX, I get the following error at the beginning of installation process (after all confirmations):
> A Cabinet file necessary for the installation cannot be trusted
I have encountered this problem with multiple versions of wine and directx redistributables. I had no need in using directx for a long time, but looks like some features are not implemented for

Wine and DirectX
I have a couple of questions about Wine, just in an attempt to enhance
my understanding of it:
Is Wine writing its own implementation of DirectX, which sort of
'forwards' instructions to an equivilant in OpenGL?
Is it possible to install the official MS DirectX under Wine? If not,
why not?
Thanks for any info :-)

Probs with wine/DirectX
So I got wine working.... sort of. I was never able to run 'wineinstall'
b/c if i try to run it under my ordinary login, it halts at 'config' and
says I don't have permission, but if I log in as root, I can change
directories to the /usr/src/wine/tools and I can see 'wineinstall' and
'config' as executable files (I even chmod a+x them to be sure) but when at:

DirectX 8
I have Wine-20010112 in a RedHat7 box and I'm a butt newbie in wine. :)
I've installed succesfully the game 'Shatered Galaxy' but the graphics
are weird, it looks like a directx problem to me, so I tryed to install
the latest DirectX 8 that I found in M$.com but it says something like
'This version of DirectX can't run in your Operating System'. Anyone
knows a way
