In any wine prefix, it'll get wine gecko from/usr/share/wine/gecko
rather than redownload it each time.

getting a Creative Soundblaster card to work
I just got a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card for my notebook.
The card is recognized automatically in Ubuntu, and in Preferences/Sound I set the default to ALC861VD Analog, which is the mixer.
But the option doesn't come up under winecfg.
And my application (Dragon NaturallySpeaking) doesn't see it.
Any suggestions?

Re : wine asio
And to get it all, use it like this :
sudo make 2>&1 &>somelogfile
or even better
sudo make 2>&1 |tee somelogfile to see the messages and have them recorded at the same time.
Kind regards,Sylvain Petreolle (aka Usurp)

Sending changes to winelib ?
I have a little program coded for windows, and I want to compile it using
winegcc.
Unfortunately, some functions are not implemented in winelib, and I have to
tweak some files. So, How do I submit those changes ? I found nothing on the
WineHQ site.
SO, if someone knows where to redirect me, I can do it alone!

SoundBlaster Live
Folks,
I last saw this problem in a thread in this newsgroup a couple of years
ago, but there was no solution then.
It was then stated that you couldn't get a SoundBlaster Live sound card to
work under Wine because Windows 'ran' everything through the emu10k1.vxd
file and Wine did not support vxd files.
Is this still the case?
Has anyone found a workaround yet?

Soundblaster
Hi,
I have the VIA chipset, and I'm trying to disable the sound and enable a
soundblaster compatible card.
Can you tell me what you did in /etc/modules.conf to enable your
soundblaster card?
Thanks,
Mike

I don't know the answer, but here are suggestions to the limit of my knowledge:
1) Is your sound going in via Line In, or Mic In?
2) Do you get the noise when recording, using ANY software (just record a wav file with something)? If so, at least you know it's not a software issue.
I don't know what else to suggest, but I think this information would help you (or anyone who tries to

I had a similar problem...
I updated our radio server to a new box and a SB Live and ran into all
sorts of audio problems. I took the sound card (es1371) from the old box
and swapped out the SB Live and the problems went away.
I think the problem is with fbsd's sb live driver.

OT? Creative Zen player not registering as a USB device
I plugged my son's new (Christmas) Zen V player into my CentOS 5.1 box and
it doesn't register as a device that the system can see or mount.
If I lsusb, it shows up as bus 2, device 8, but there is no corresponding
/dev/??? device for it, so the system can't get at it.
(I tried my flash drive in the same USB port and it works fine, so it's not
the hardware.)
How do I get around

Surround sound and Creative EAX in Wine
Hi,
When using the Alsa output device, is it possible to configure it to
use a surround sound output, like "surround51" or "surround40"? I found
a few references on the internet, but nothing clear. They talked about
the deprecated wine.cfg, or registry keys I don't have. The winecfg
utility also doesn't allow changing any useful audio setting in this
regard.

Slightly OT: Creative Zen not showing up when plugged in - what to do
I installed the 0.2.5 version of libmtp, ran the hotplug.sh script
(which has a bug in it, but it's only for "old" hotplug support), the
player shows up in lsusb, BUT gnomad2 can't seem to find it.
What am I missing?
Thanks.

World of Warcraft in Wine 1.0rc1 with Creative x-fi
All other games have sound except wow.
I recently updated to 1.0rc1 from the last version (whatever it was).
I have an x-fi and the sound was working. Now for the life of me I can't get it to have sound in wow. Other games (like Guild Wars) seem to be fine.
Anyone experiencing the same issue with this setup?
