Current best AMD processor for running mainstream games?
Hi all, I want to buy a processor that will be good for gaming in Wine in FreeBSD. I see that many game engines are starting to take advantage of multi-core systems, however it appears that multi-threaded applications are not distributed properly across multiple cores (Ex: Starcraft II - http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20882 ). So I'm not sure if I should aim

New phenom quad core and centos 5.1
Any one here tried the phenom (B3 stepping) and centos 5.1? Any issues? I would presume there are no issues, but thought I'd ask before moving on. I am considering getting a Phenom 9850. Wish the clock speed was higher at this point. Jerry

TF2 with GTX260 and Quad-core Phenom II - what performance?
I have a GTX260 216 core, running the latest Nvidia binary driver(260.xx). I have a Phenom II x4 3.2ghz, and 4GB of DDR3-1600 ram. All in all, not a bad system. Now, my problem is that no matter what settings I use, I tend to get in the 30-50fps range with DX8.1. Lower if there's a lot of action onscreen. The interesting thing is that my frame-rate doesn't change significantly with

PCI Passthrough using GART on AMD CPUs?
Hey everyone, I realize that people asking about PCI passthrough has been thoroughly beaten to death many a time, however I couldn''t find the answer to these questions anywhere (and I''d really like to know :P) so please just bare with me. I know the GART built into AMD chipsets can act as a "mini IOMMU" and do DMA translation but not protection/isolation. However,

Is kvm-clock dependant on hardware of Physical Server?
I've got a three Centos 5.5 KVM severs, but only one of them is presenting guests with the kvm-clock source. The two servers I'm not seeing kvm-clock on have Athlon x2 64bit processors. The other server with kvm-clock has a Phenom II X6 1090T Processor. I've checked the system configuration and all the boxes have the same set of RPM packages. To confirm that the issue was

Wine, Wow Cata and D3D
Running Ubuntu 10.04, Nvidia driver version 260.19.29, 3 GB RAM, AMD Phenom Quad-Core, wine-1.3.11. I notice no difference in performance whether OpenGL is enabled or not. Does this mean D3D is now working and I don't need OpenGL now? I get close to 80fps in some places, which is great, but in a raid or other places with a lot of toons and activitiy, Wow practically freezes up and becomes

890FX AMD-Vi (IOMMU)
Hello, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me why IOMMU does not seem to be found on my system. At the very least is there any way I can get more debug information in addition to adding iommu=verbose to the command line? Hi Everybody, I'm trying to get wine to run on Solaris 10 on an x86 platform. The machine is actually a virtual one running inside VMWare. Re: TF2 with GTX260 and Quad-core Phenom II - what performance?
A lot of older versions of Adobe programs will run under Wine at a performance loss. By the way what applications are you running? What versions of it?

Games that installed before... now won't, what changed?
the games i'm dealing with are eq and eq2. both the same error so i'm thinking its a wine issue and not a game specific issue i'll list my error here as best possible, and note that i have found "fixes" to this problem but have no idea what anyone in those "fix" threads are talking about. just search my error #, on this site or google and you'll get a result.
