Centos5-live kernel panic?
I am fairly sure that I had gotten this to work before, and I know that the Centos4-live disk worked OK, but now (maybe since I upgraded BIOS) I get this sequence after booting the live cd: Creating /var in RAM ... Done Found Centos-live.sqfs but couldn't mount it: Linking /usr to /centos-live/usr /linuxrc: 1208: [: not found Freeing unused kernel memory: 296K freed Write protecting the

BIOS upgrade side effects
Are there any possible undesirable effects of a BIOS upgrade? The worst I can think of is something that would change my SATA drives from being mapped as SCSI to being mapped as IDE. Ted Miller Indiana

Yumex in 6.5 minimal -
When I start yumex as user it displays but stops with an error message that the backend is not running. However "yumex --root" starts and runs normally. It is Centos 6.5 64 bit and using XFCE running in virtualbox if that matters. Any suggestion as to what I am missing? Bob -- http://www.qrz.com/db/w2bod Box10 Fedora-20/64bit Linux/XFCE

Workaround for RH #502499?
I have a workstation with a Gigbyte board and an Intel Corporation 82801EB (ICH5) SATA Controller (rev 02) that's apparently getting bitten by https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=502499 It's running CentOS 5.4 32 bit, and the user is suffering from high load and sluggish response whenever a disk write of more than a few MB is made. iostat shows the disk at 100%. Yumex, yum-utils
I saw the link someone posted to SL (Scientific Linux) yumex rpm's. I grabbed the SRPMS, changed some references from SL to CentOS in the spec files and rebuilt the RPMS. I managed to get yumex up and running by manually configuring yumex.conf. What is the use of the yum-utils and the dozen or so utilities? Are there any docs? (Bearing in mind my hack may have damaged the SL installation)

Scary memory requirements for 5.1 graphic install
It is listed as a known issue, but I have a lot of 256Mb systems where I have used the graphic installer.... OUCH! And when this is fixed (I really hope), it will mean some new ISOs to download?

yumex 'crashed' - anyway to resume?
I spent quite a bit of time setting up what I wanted to update and install via yumex. I left my system for a few minutes to attend to another computer. A helpful family member logged me off without checking. So can I recapture what I had queued? I cannot find anything that looks like a yumex queue file. yum.log does not have any updates from today.... :(

Prepping for system wipe & reload
Here's the checklist I have so far: 1 - /home partition - separate drive 2 - Files copied to the second drive: /etc/X11/xorg.conf rpm for RPM forge /etc/yum - entire folder /etc/yum/repos.d - entire folder /etc/yum.conf /etc/yumex.conf /etc/yumex.profiles.conf 3 - Files installed via Yum(ex) - Hmmm, need to figure this one out. Any pointers? -- --- David Woyciesjes
