Nux VLC gives CLI only on CentOS-6.x
I thought this was just because of various unwise repo mixing that I'd done
on my main home server-cum-workstation, but I've been able to duplicate it
on a fresh VirtualBox installation.
I install the nux repo vlc-core and vlc-extras. I then try to start it
from a command line. I get

linux media player as default media player for WINE
Hi,
First post, so please be nice ; )
I am trying to set my linux vlc as default media player for wine. I am
trying to do that because i use a software called TVAnts to tune tv
channels and I would like to skip one step of the process which is
starting vlc or any other media player and point it to the address of
the stream. something like:
$ vlc http://localhost:16900/1.asf

VLC
Hi All,
When our users receive a voicemail we send it attached to an email. It used to work fine, encoded in wav49 and read by Windows media player. Recently the default player in the company has become VLC which is unable to read wav49. I am trying to use OGG/VORBIS instead of wav49. I can't get it working:
In voicemail.conf:
format = ogg
The result is as follow:

installing 32 bit vlc on Centos 5.5??
I'm in yum dependency hell using epel, rpmforge and rpmfusion repos to
install vlc on 32 bit Centos 5.5. Anyone have a better idea? Doesn't
really have to be vlc I just want to be able to play a dvd and Movie
Player complains about missing plugins without saying what they are.

extras and vlc
What are the chances that a package such as vlc from http://videolan.org/vlc
would become included in extras? so a yum install vlc would work.
Thanks,

About VLC 1.1.11 and 1.1.13 on CentOS 6.3 64 bit
Hello,
I have installed, after a long hiccups,
VLC on centOS. VLC is showing
installed through package repo.
I tried first VLC 1.1.13 but it says
dependency issues. So I uninstall it and
install 1.1.11 again from repo. This time
installation gets completed and installation
appears in package repo and VLC icon on
the Accessories; but The problem is

Installing Libspeex in VLC
Good day everyone,
I'm trying to run .speex audio files in VLC. So I found a link to libspeex
in VLC website, and I downloaded the package. Anyway, I don't know how to
install it from now, once it's in a tar.gz format.
Do I have to extract the files and paste it in VLC folder?
P.S.: I'm using Win7.
Thx a lot.
Best regards,
Ulisses

Metadata and bad player behaviour : cut sound for short time when receiving metadata (kh versions of ices/icecast)
Hello,
I was trying to add metadata to my OGG stream (ices 2,0-kh59, icecast
2.0-kh51).
It works... but the players are doing a small sound cut at metadata
reception :
- VLC (maybe 1/3sec cut)
- JORBIS (java. maybe 1/10sec, because I can have set higher priority to
sound processing and not to comment handling)
(player plateform: Mac OS X 1.3.6)
With VLC... I can say comments are unusable,

Player Problems
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone come across problems listening back to Mp3
streams using VLC?
The reason I ask is that we [ResonanceFM] stream at
128K and at 24K (using two different Icecast
instances). All players (Zinf, Winamp, Media Player
etc) can play both streams bar VLC which seems to
exhibt a skipping (i.e like the sound of a CD) problem
when playing the 24K stream. Incidently it plays the

vlc on centos 4.5
Has anyone successfully gotten vlc to install on centos 4.X?
I saw other posts on using rpms from places but I dont want to go there.

ffmpeg
vlc
I have configured and installed each package above.
When I run vlc (to connect to a linksys wvc200 camera that outputs MP4
video)
I get the message main decoder error:

VLC only sees a fraction of Speex wrapped in OGG
Friends,
My name is Igor, I am new to this forum.
I have a peculiar problem with my OGG/Speex implementation: I encode a
short PCM stream in OGG/Speex, but the result can not be read by VLC and
MediaInfo <http://mediaarea.net/nn/MediaInfo> reports that the file is too
short (240ms). In reality the file contains about 2.7 sec worth of audio.
Another interesting thing I noticed is that the

VLC package(s) for C6 ?
Hi listees!
Just installed C6 (more or less) permanently on my eeepc.
I've enabled rpmfusion non-free, rpmfusion free, elrepo, and epel,
prior to this point I've been running fedora on it (f10 thru f14)
and have always found VLC at rpmfusion.
(but finally RHEL/Centos have become modern enough to support the
eeepc's funky hardware, so I'm switching back--tired of the version

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
Two other players that I am aware of that have Icecast2 issues have been
VLC and CoreCodec BetaPlayer. I have been in contact with both developer
paths and set up test streams for them in an attempt to get this fixed.
CoreCodec is in the process of making the necessary changes. I do not know
about VLC. I was never able to get confirmation.

vlc?
Hey, folks,
a co-worker raves that vlc is the bestestplaysthemostformats media
player there is, including being able to resize videos. I see it's only
over on repoforge for CentOS, but trying to install it at home (I'm
running 5.8, 32-bit), it wants about 30 or more dependencies, and one
or two of them, of course, have conflicts.
Has anyone installed it in a 5.x environment? If so,
