link-dest / checksum / db.diff
Hello, I use rsync (3.0.9) to make backups with the link-dest option, so that I keep daily folders, and I only upload the difference. However, when a directory is moved somewhere else in the tree, it is fully re-uploaded. Same thing when files are simply renamed, they are re-uploaded, not linked. First option could be to use --fuzzy twice (migrating to 3.1.0), but I think that it can be very IO

New rsync option checksum-path
This is a suggestion for adding to rsync an option "--checksum-path=PROGRAM". Once this option is given, provided it is accompained by option "--checksum", both the receiving and sending side of rsync would compute checksums calling PROGRAM, instead of the usual checksum program. Why is this usefull? Suppose I have two collections of MP3 files at different locations which I

Cannot access samba users from Windows Server 2008 r2 trust
Hi, our setup is Samba 3.3.12 as the Trusted Domain (Domain name: SAMBA) Windows 2008r2 as the Trusting Domain (Domain name: W2008) The trust itself works quite well, users of the SAMBA Domain are able to log into the workstations of the W2008 domain and even roaming profiles are working. However, when I try to configure permissions on a share of the W2008r2 server to users from the SAMBA

[PATCH] Next cleanup part 4 or 5 by now.=)
Changes: * Removed utimes() posix hack since scp.c moved to utimes() * Fixed waitpid() to be more proper. It was driving me nuts. * Made setsid() a #define in next-posix.h * Removed WCOREDUMP() from next-posix.h since we really don't support it and now #ifdef .. #else .. #endif around the single place it was used. * Fixed typecasting issue in sshd.c with sizeof() returning "long

Caching {filePath,mtime64,checksum} values to speed up execution-time
Folks: When using rsync to copy huge amounts of data I've found that a significant amount of time is spent computing the checksums. Sometimes hours, ... sometimes days - it depends on the total amount of data checked! And after that sometimes it's only a few files that need to be updated. I've pulled the latest git (rsync-3.1.1pre1) and didn't see anything to address this (or I

Several changes missing from [HEAD] fileflags.diff
Looking at http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/patches/fileflags.diff -- It looks like the changes from fileflags-fixes.diff patch were applied to the patch from http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/rsync-patches-3.0.0.tar.gz , but this entire chunk of the that original diff file was lost: > diff -up a/config.h.in b/config.h.in > --- a/config.h.in > +++ b/config.h.in > @@ -64,6 +64,9 @@

File System Size Limits?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Is there some limit on the size of a file system which can be shared via samba? I'm trying to set up a file server with a 100GB shared partition and it doesn't want to work. I'm running Fedora Core 4, and Samba Version 3.0.14a-2. The output from testparm looks like this: [root@stitch samba]# testparm Load smb config files from

mongrel limiting amount of connections ?
Hi! I''ve been using Mongrel in a Rails setup with HAProxy as a loadbalancer. I used to use Pound, but HAProxy is much more performant and has the very nice option to limit the amount of requests sent to the backend servers/processes. In practice, this means that a new incoming request will not be sent to a Mongrel that''s already busy processing a request. There''s

Huge amount of used inode handlers
Hi all, Any ideas, why is this happening or how to debug this? After random time (usually one to three days uptime) inode-sz reported by sar jumps way up its normal level and <24 hours after this bug has happened server will crash. Server used to work fine, but started to do this around beginning of June. --- 08:20:00 AM dentunusd file-sz %file-sz inode-sz super-sz %super-sz
