hipzip iomega vorbis'd firmware
Hi
I've seen there are few people saying someone @xiph
got an hipzip firmware supporting vorbis.
All references are at least one year old. Does someone
know something more about that? (whether, how, _where_, ...)
Expecially now that tremor's been released, it should be
even easier to get such a feature, shouldn't it?
bye

Color in console
Hey all. I have a color-capable console (color ls works, and I can run
any color-smart program like naim and bitchX), but for some reason the
color in the console for asterisk, whether started with -c or
safe_asterisk, isn't working for me.
Any ideas as to why?
I don't think it's my termcap, although I could post that if y'all really
wanted it.
Asterisk was built, and is

link_stat
Hi there,
I set up my company's back up server using rsync.
And I've got a strange problem. I searched in the archives of this
list, but
none of them seems not giving me an idea to solve the problem.
If anyone can help, it would be grateful.
I'm using cron by a user (non wheel/admin) to rsync everyday during
the night.
The cron is set in the server to transfer the backing-up

Analysing ordinal/nominal data
Hi!
I'm looking for a solution to analyse data, which consists of
dichotomous responses (yes/no) for 2 multinomial ordinal variables. I
was trying glm() and got hierarhical models treating all variables as
nominal, but I can't figure out how to tell glm() to use a model for
ordinal data like this:
log(Mij) = intercept + X + Y + Z + beta*(x-x')*(y-y')
where beta is a

dovecot and vmailmgr/qmail mailboxes
Hello folks,
Time ago I worked on a patch for dovecot to work with vmailmgr
http://mij.oltrelinux.com/net/dovecot-qmail-vmailmgr/
The patch was required because, despite vmailmgr complies with the
checkpassword
interface supported by dovecot, dovecot snips the mailbox directory
returned by the
authentication module at colon characters ':'. Incidentally, vmailmgr
maps any

IFELSE across large array?
Dear all,
As our previous email did not get any response, we try again with a
reformulated question!
We are trying to do something which needs an efficient loop over a huge
array, possibly functions such as apply and related (tapply,
lapply...?), but can't really understand syntax and examples in
practice...i.e. cant' make it work.
to be more specific:
we are trying to apply a mask

permission problem samba share 2nd suse server
Dear all,
I'm running a fileserver on Suse10. The purpose of this fileserver is to store only mailbackups.
I also have backupserver running Suse10 with Dar&Sarab installed. backups will be done on HDD. This
runs perfect.
because I need to mount the samba share of the fileserver to the backupserver i did:
mount -t smbfs -o username=root,password=xxx,debug=4 //ipaddress/mailbackup

dovecot and vmailmgr
hello
now that dovecot supports authentication with checkpassword-compatible
modules, I tried to get it working for IMAP on a qmail + vmailmgr
server.
For a subtle detail, while claiming to be "a drop-in replacement for
the standard
checkpassword", checkvpw (auth module for vmailmgr) is not "drop in".
It actually
expects 2 args on its command line, not 1. So, a wrapper

ICMP
After the recent attacks on the major servers on the web my ISP has
decided to stop all ICMP messages from his ISP.
I have red the RFCs and it seems that he cant do that... As a result
pings and traceroutes will not work.
I need a friendly person out there to tell me a way to break the news to
him that he has to allow ICMP packets
through his network... any suggestions would be helpfull

Howto: Extremely tight security rsync shell for backups
We've been using rsync since forever to back up all our servers and it's
worked without a problem. But in a recent security review, we noted that
our specific rsync backup host is using root keys to access the server,
meaning that if the keys on the backup server were leaked/compromised in
any fashion, that would provide r00t access to the servers being backed up.
Since this
