Anyone got Diskless BOOT working under CentOS ???
Im trying to get a diskless boot set up under CentOS 5.2, and having no luck at all. I am to the point of running system-config-netboot, and whatever information I put in, I get an error message. Responding to the 2nd button on the first popup, which asks for NFS info, I put in the IP address of the current machine (the machine that will hold the boot images for the diskless machine) and the

CentOS6.5: disklessboot could not find ramdisk but CentOS6.2 :OK. CentOS6.5 has bug with dracut?
Hi I have trouble with disklessclient with CentOS6.5 but 6.2. I have been using disklessclient from CentOS6.2 well. Both server and clients work with CentOS6.2. Recently I set up PXE boot server with CentOS6.5 and has trouble. I built vmlinuz and initrd.image in the same method I did for CentOS6.2 [root at pxe ~]# yum -y groupinstall "Base" "Server Platform"

Diskless Sharedroot Cluster
Hi all! We have just released new updates for the yum channel of the open-sharedroot software for CentOS4 and CentOS5. With the open-sharedroot software package, you can build up a NFS or GFS based diskless sharedroot cluster with CentOS4 and CentOS5. It also contains a toolset to clone or backup entire diskless sharedroot clusters. Open Sharedroot homepage: http://open-sharedroot.org/

diskless wfw
Hi. I followed the advises from yours but I still can't do tcp/ip from wfw when booting diskless. I was told to run the wsahdapp.exe file, but when I do it windows tells me : winsock api Instalation Error The DOS sockets TSR is not loaded and of course when I try to run netscape it tells me: Netscape was unable to create a network socket connection There may be insufficient system

memdisk and winPE diskless boot
Hi, I am working on the diskless booting over Infiniband networks. At the moment we have created and implemented architecture which allow diskless booting of Linux nodes on x86, x86_64 and Itanium platforms. The system works by booting first small custom made Linux kernel of the Infiniband adapter ROM. The kernel has enough of infiniband stack to setup TCP/IP networking over infiniband. Then it

diskless win95 and samba

Peter Debus <pdebus@turing.une.edu.au> cautioned | Unfortunately there is no other option I am aware of, other than booting | from an NT server - which I have been told, but have not experienced | myself, is painfully slow if booting a whole computer lab at once, with | clients timing out and

Problem setting up diskless boot.
OK, I did this once, several years ago, but I have to do it again, and I cant figure out what this stupid error message is trying to say. I am executing system-config-netboot trying to create a diskless client for a diskless boot I constantly get a popup, with different error messages. I try to 'fix' something, and I get a different popup. The current one says: You

Diskless Setup
Max, Would you please zip up the contents of /tftpboot/linux-install/pxelinux.cfg. You can send it to <jses27 at gmail.com>. After you use the Nettboot Tool to configure the diskless client it will not update the pertinate files to do so. So in saying it will not boot the default OS. Maybe this could be an error of mine.. But then again there was a post related to this issue this week.

Diskless Clients
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi guys, Someone on the list today was asking about diskless clients. I have a guide written for doing diskless clients across NFS and PXE. I noticed there was nothing existing on the wiki for such a thing. I wanted to ask before I created the main category "Diskless Clients" under the How To page. Any objections to that there? Or suggest

Booting Diskless Workstations
I made a post in the Fedora list that didn't yield much help regarding this. I need to use a CentOS5.1 server to remotely boot a few Fedora 9 workstations. I have the option of using straight PXE, or even reflashing gPXE to the LOM for the clients. What I am interested in knowing is the best approach to this. 1. Should I just do iSCSI backed diskless setups? Probably doesn't scale well.

2 questions on diskless client setup.
Using Centos 5.2 upgraded from 5.0 using yum on a couple of old Dells in a lab environment. I don't think hardware is part of the problem, just need configuration help. 1: I can boot the diskless client and it come up, but when I do a "mount" command on the client, the output is indistinguishable from the output of the mount command on the server. Currently the fstab in

PXEBoot/Diskless client NFS issue

I believe that'd be handled in the append line as well. If your diskless client has 2 NICs - could that be confusing things? You could try adding the line: IPAPPEND 2 to your

Diskless Centos & Cgroup config changes
Hi, I have OS 'image' that boots via PXE and mounts over NFS. (7.5.1804). I am wanting to explore allowing cgroup usage on this configuration. The root image is exported read-only over NFS and am using statetab & rwtab to allow some persistent parts of the filesystem as well as read/write where needed. I have tried setting /sys in the statetab and this causes the machine to fail,

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives and I decided not to do it diskless. So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem. I do this. 1.- I did booting images with bootware proms. 2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT

rpcinfo *very* slow on diskless client
Hi all, Sorry, this might be a bit off topic, but I'm not sure of the best place to ask. I'm booting a diskless PC with PXELinux, and the kernel loads successfully and I can log in and use the system as you'd expect. I have done this before, however this time I decided to try using ClusterNFS so that the diskless clients can share the boot server's filesystem. Unfortunately

Diskless client from system-config-netboot doesn't boot.
Hi folks, I've followed a set of instructions I found on http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_enterprise_linux_sysadmin_guide/ch-diskless.htmli which describes using system-config-netboot to set up PXE booting. I used a CentOS-4.3 install (custom, all options de-selected, then anaconda-busybox installed after the fact) as a reference/base. I followed the

PXELINUX 2.0 diskless booting RedHat 9.0
I'm trying to boot RedHat 9.0 on a diskless PC from a head machine running Redhat 9.0. The network appears to be setup correctly. I can boot the installation disk image fine using pxelinux. What I am trying to setup is a number of different Linux systems each with its own root directory on the head machine. I am hoping that I don't have to modify the kernel for any of these systems.
