Basic subscribe-loading-unsubscribe button
(This is a beginners'' question)
I can''t seem to find this in the wiki or in the list archives. Button
says "subscribe". User clicks. Button says "loading". Then button says
"unsubscribe". (or the other way round)
Apologies for the simplicity of the question, but any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Documentation generator?
I''m looking for a documentation generator for JavaScript code that can
handle the coding style used in prototype.js and script.aculo.us. Any
recommendations for such a tool?
In a similar vein, does it make a noticeable difference in production
when comments are removed and several script files are combined into a
single one?

Why doesn''t Rails 1.1 have all the Script.aculo.us 1.6 files?
Why aren''t builder.js, slider.js, and scriptaculous.js part of the

I''m newbie to rails application.
I like to use script.aculos.us script in my app.
I faced the following problem.

2. Then I copied the files
scriptaculous.js, builder.js, effects.js, dragdrop.js, controls.js and
slider.js
and prototype.js
into my app/public/javascripts/
3. Then included the <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %> code into

Help please-draggable
I asked the other day about this problem but haven''t received a response.
Trying again:
I just downloaded 1.6 and can''t get a simple draggable to work, which
is weird. I know it''s not my browser since the demos are working.
Here is my simple code. I''ve also had the "new Draggable" between
the select tags. Didn''t change anything.

Autocomplete Error w/Version 1.5_pre4
I recently updated to version 1.5_pre4 to use the excellent in-place
editor, however, I''m now seeing a bug with AutoCompletion.
When text is entered in the text field for auto completion, the
auto_complete div is not updated (but the server does receive the
request and return a response). Upon removing focus from the text
field, 2 instances of the following error can be seen in both

where to install script.aculo.us ?
I''d like to try autocompletion, and my understanding based on AWDWR:2,
and on various website tutorials, is that I should install the
script.aculos.us
javascript library.
My question is how to do that. The instructions on their site tell me
to "Put prototype.js, scriptaculous.js, builder.js, effects.js,
dragdrop.js, slider.js and controls.js in a directory of your website,

Scriptaculous + Prototype shrunk to < 50Kb
Maybe I''m anal but I like fat-free JS, so I pulled the Proptotype and core
Scriptaculous files into one single JS file at 49Kb.
It''s "packed" so if you care about that kind of thing, it''s also
"obfuscated".

autocompletion: hooking ''afterUpdateElement'' in Rails
Hi everyone,
I need to trigger a Rails action after the autocompletion is completed
(when the user has selected an option).
From the scriptaculous doc, I figured out ''afterUpdateElement'' is the
place to be but I wonder if/how and where I can hook my javascript code
to this event in Rails code (I''d like to keep using the helper, if
possible)?
I tried passing many

Sortable Tree Addition [PATCH]
Hello, here is the initial patch for support for sortable trees.
Please as many people download this code and test with your lists and
feel free to add more list tests.
Files modified were dragdrop.js and prototype.js.
Some new options have been added. ''treeTag'' specifies the tag used to
contain children elements. ''tree'' must be set to true for this

helping with scriptaculous/Thomas Fuchs MIA?
Hi,
In the last few days I''ve been working a lot on rewriting the
dragdrop.js code. I''ve made changes for what I think is stronger
object-oriented design and made more parallels between how Droppbables
and Draggables are coded and instantiated. I have multiple selection
and dragging of draggables working and droppables can accept multiple
draggables in one drop. There are some

script.aculo.us V1.5_pre1 released
Heya,
I''ve just released script.aculo.us V1.5_pre1.
Please give it a try!
Important new stuff (since V1.1b1):
* Added a main scriptaculous.js file to load in the other libraries
transparently.
* Fixed a condition where standard a href=xxx links wouldn''t work in
autocomplete results. These do now, the onclick event is not
cancelled. [thx to Jasper Slits]
* Added

Draggables and overflow div''s revisited
I have two scrollable div''s (overflow:auto), one with
a list of elements (the source) and the other is the
drop target (dest).
I''ve enabled ghosting so that the drag element gets
out of the scrollable box (good).
Interesting, at least on Firefox, the ghosted drag
ends up going ''under'' the destination div when I drag
it. No amount of z-order fidding seems to

sortable tree?

Hi *,
I am new to this list, so please excuse me if this has been covered
before (unfortunately the search function at
http://www.ruby-forum.com/forum/10 is disabled at the moment).
If yes, then a pointer to a solution would be great.
I want to create a sortable tree with scriptaculous Sortable. There are
several categories and subcatgories:

scriptaculous: Drag/Drop Sluggish Animation (release animation time should be proportional to remaining distance)
Thomas suggested posting these here so they don''t get
lost.
Making Scriptaculous Snappy:
*) Drag/Drop - make release cost proportional to
remaining distance
For drag/drop - change the ''release'' animation time to
be proportional to the remaining distance the dropped
item has to travel. If a user drags the item almost
all the way to the final location, the release time

Multiple dynamic Sortables
I''m writing an appliation that contains several dynamically created lists. I
had hoped that the following method for using the Sortable library from
scriptaculous would work:
1) create the list
2) create a Sortable for it
3) create another list
4) create a Sortable for it
and so on. Unfortunately this doesn''t work. I can''t find any info in the
documentation for

Ajax forms and redirects
Here is an example that seems perfect for Ajax that I have not seen
implemented nor can figure out how to do it. I am hoping someone can
give me some pointers.
On the sign-up page, I would like to do my validations (password
length, username uniqueness, etc ) Ajax-style. But if all validates,
then redirect to the success page. The combining of redirection to a
new page with Ajax is throwing me.

I'm getting an uncaught exception requiring the Scriptaculous

generic onDragStart onDrag and onDragFinish events extracted from scriptaculous?
Hi folks.
I''m working on a project where I need some drag and drop, but I need to
implement what happens in a very different way, so I''m creating my own class
for it. I don''t want to reinvent the wheel and redo Thomas'' excellent
drag/drop functionality, nor do I want to copy/paste his code over into mine.
So, I was wondering, has anyone tried to extract

I''m having a problem when I set the tree option to true on Sortable.
