Apropos the day...
Since today is American Thanksgiving, I want to thank:
(a) R-core for all of their efforts to produce what is, IMHO,
the best statistical software around, not simply for the
convenience of doing more, better, quicker, but also
because it changes the landscape in the way one
thinks about data analysis. It's a fantastic playground
for a statistician and I enjoy using it

No room for labels in barplot
All,
I have:
sales <- c(2300,900,155,102,42,10)
names(sales) <- c("Christmas","Valentine's Day",
"Mother's Day","Father's Day",
"Thanksgiving","New Year's Day")
barplot(sales,ylim=c(0,2500))
But it doesn't place all of the name labels on the plot. So I tried:
sales <-

Error " subscript out of bounds"
Hello, R-users,
I have a datafile with 37313 records and each record has 5 different measurements on the same variables. The format looks like this: treeID, VIG0, VIG1, VIG2, VIG3, VIG4
I was trying to convert the one row record to 5 rows record with format like this (treeID, MEASUREMENT, VIGOR). My code like this:
treeMeas<-matrix(data=0,nrow=(length(tree1$indivTree)*5), ncol=3)

problem with vigor 2600v
I have recently installed a test Asterisk server but am having problems
getting this to work with a Vigor 2600V. I have no issues using X-Lite to
connect to Asterisk but if I configure the 2600V, it registers correctly but
I don't get any sound at all although calls do seem to connect. The 2600V
works fine with FWD and other services so I suspect I am missing a setting
but as a user have

vigor 2920 problems
One of our clients has a Draytek Vigor 2920- their natted Snom phones
behind it are registered to an Asterisk 1.4 server on an external public IP.
I've set QOS, bandwidth management and turned off the SIP ALG via telnet
but I'm still having some problems with some of the phones losing
registration if Asterisk is restarted.
I can see the phones sending SIP REGISTER messages, but they

Asterisk with Draytek 2600V
I am unable to get a my Draytek working with our Asterisk server. I can
make/recieve calls but get no audio. I have tried the various codecs at the
Vigor end but still getting nothing. I looked at sip debug (below) but am
new to Asterisk and don't really know what I am looking for. Asterisk works
fine with XLITE so I know my installation is ok.

Issue mounting /home area from NAS server
Hi,
Just before the Thanksgiving break, we enabled quotas on
the /home areas on the mseas-data server (running CentOS 5.8),
using the following line in the updated /etc/fstab
/dev/mapper/the_raid-lv_home /home ext3
defaults,usrquota,grpquota 1 0
Following the Thanksgiving reboot of mseas-data we have been
experiencing problems with svn on mseas (our front-end machine,

SLES10SP2 (xen 3.2.x) vs SLES11 (xen 3.4.x)
I built a couple new servers on SLES11 because I needed to use USB.
Since SLES11 has xen 3.4 packages that seemed like the way to go. I''m
questioning the stability of the two new servers compared to my
SLES10SP2 servers. I''m also questioning the performance of Windows
domUs.
On Thanksgiving day one of my SLES11 servers running 7-8 domUs crashed
and restarted three times. Being

port forwarding using iptables
Hi listmates,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Does anybody know if there is a convenient utility to configure
iptables on a CentOS 5.4 or 5.3 machine to do port forwarding? And if
not, where and how does one put the requisite commands?
Thanks.
Boris.

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Removing BBVectorize?
Hi Everyone,
I propose that we remove BBVectorize from trunk. Here's why:
- It never made it from "interesting experiment" to "production quality" (it is not part of any in-tree optimization pipeline).
- We now have an SLP vectorizer that we do use in production, had have for some time.
- BBVectorize otherwise needs refactoring, and the implementation has lots of

USB match but cannot open??
Regarding the follow-up, IIRC `open` walks a device list returned by
libusb, checks each entry against the matcher, and tells libusb if it wants
to claim the device described by a particular entry. I don't think it walks
further entries after a successful match and claim?
We can't use the matcher directly, because its fields can be a regex
geberally (e.g. `vendor=A*` instead of `APC` or

Dear User,
I got the following error running a regression quantile:

Erro em rq.fit.fnb(x, y, tau = tau + h) :

Any hint about the problem?
Thanks a lot,

Moving Average
Dear R-Users,
How can I compute simple moving averages from a time series in R?
Note that I do not want to estimate a MA model, just compute the MA's
given a lenght (as excel does).
Thanks

Icecast service remains locked in CentOs
I have been having a problem with my icecast server running on CentOs.
Occasionally, the service will stop running, but it will fail to restart
because the subsys is locked.
If the service stops, I need to manually log into my VPS, delete the
empty file in /var/lock/subsys and restart the icecast service.
What could be causing the icecast service to not drop the locked file?
This is the only

Question on list of packages on centos 7
Is there a way to get a list of packages AND version of that package
in centos/redhat 7? Perhaps from one a beta of 7 or something?
I searched for "list of packages in redhat 7" and I can get a list
but the list did not have any version information just the
package name and description.
Not off topic just "future" topic.
Thanks, everyone have a great Thanksgiving!

Identifying US holidays
Hello!
I am trying to identify which ones of a vector of dates are US
holidays. And, ideally, which is which. And I do not know (a-priori)
which dates those should be.
I have, for example:
x<-seq(as.Date("2011-01-01"),as.Date("2011-12-31"),by="day")
(x)
I think chron should help me here - but maybe I am not using it properly:
library(chron)
