AOP in Prototype / JS
Hey folks
I am just investigating using Aspects for logging my main Javascript
"interfaces". I don''t believe Prototype has any built in capabilities
for this but I just thought I''d check and see how people had tackled
this before.
I am still getting to grips with core JS so apologies if this is easy
or obvious..
I am Googling as we speak also..
Cheers

Ajax.RssReader object
Hi all,
I''m happy to announce that I''ve completed the first version of my
Ajax.RssReader object. It needs some extra''s, but the basic functionality is
now available. You can download it from
http://www.sayoutloud.com/javascripts/rssreader.js
Usage:
function myCallbackFunction( rss ) {
alert(rss.channel.title);
for(n=0; n<rss.items.length; n++) {

tabs
I was wondering if there is a way to do tabs easier than most of the
tutrials that I have found. I dont realy care if its realy fast just as long
as it works. Something sort of like
http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/documentation/examples/kitchensink/demo.html#TabsAlso
if there is a way where if my viewers want to save something as a link
than there is something they can click and it will give

[Prototype] Ajax.Request include form fields?
Hi,
Is it possible to submit my form (or part of my form) with an ajax
request? I had been using dojo to do this, but having just read up on
the prototype library, I think I''d rather use prototype. The one
thing I don''t see (maybe I''m just missing it) is the ability to submit
my form (actually just parse through an element and include all inputs
as request parameters)

javascript woes with radio button groups
Ok! So I have this survey project I''m working on where there are a list of
questions but only one shows up at a time.
That part''s easy. And, it is fully functional as we speak (and I think even
''live'') however.....
My boss wants to be able to have the survey go to the next question when a
user selects an answer. This part is easy.. except.....

Why Struts2 use dojo instead of Scriptaculous?
Hi,
I''m using prototype/Scriptaculous in my open source project JSControlsTags
http://jscontrolstags.sourceforge.net/
I''m Struts user and in the new version Struts2, the framework integrate AJAX
with dojo
and not with Prototype/Scriptaculous. I asked in the Struts forum, why
Struts2 integrate
by default dojo and not scriptaculous.
Here Struts answer :

Implementing a boolean "switch" in a Class
I need a single boolean which would be "globally" accessible to all
instances of a class. Seems like the boolean should be in the class
prototype, but I was troubled by the difficulty of setting the prototype
boolean to true. Maybe I''m missing something?
var MyObject = Class.create();
MyObject.prototype = {
bSwitch: false,
... other methods and properties
}

JavaScript Compression
Is there a good windows-based JavaScript compressor which will reliably
compress script aculo and prototype?

Comet support?
Just out of curiosity, is there a plan to support Comet (name coined by the
dojo guys) w/ prototype? Comet represents persisting an http connection for
low latency data operations. It also represents a nice alternative to
polling.

Autocompleter without a default choice
Hi,
I have an ajax auto completer for a text field in a form. All''s good.
Unfortunately, I also want the form to be submitted when the user hits
''return'' in the text field.
This combination of circumstances means that if the user is typing his
entry and then hits return to submit it is possible that dang auto
completer will pop up and complete his entry for even if he

Prototype based tabs and field validation. Enjoy!
Thought I''d try and contribute to the growing prototype ecosystem.
tabs:
http://tetlaw.id.au/view/blog/fabtabulous-simple-tabs-using-prototype/
field validation:
http://tetlaw.id.au/view/blog/really-easy-field-validation-with-prototype/
Both real easy and clean to use. Hope y''all can use them somehow.
Cheers

JSON not auto-evaluated
Hi,
please consider this stripped down example:
new Ajax.Request(''foo.php'', {
onSuccess: function(t, json) {
alert(json.myParam);
}
});
According to http://www.sergiopereira.com/articles/prototype.js.html, the
second param is supposed to be the evaluated json object IF the X-JSON header
is send in the response. I send the header in my script. However, the json

Rails and Dojo
Anyone have any positive or negative experiences trying to get Dojo to

Would people recommend it? Recommend against it? Why?
Thanks,

Detecting Body Onload
I have a piece of code that "waits" for body onload. Every 30ms, it tests
$(''body'').
Seems that isn''t always good enough. I''ve hit situations where the DOM is
"partially" loaded somehow.
I fixed matters by setting a global flag...
<body onload="bodyLoaded=true;">
which provides a better test... of course I could
