I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that we should have a minimal Python in "base".

[wifi] wifimgr for freebsd
Hi, I made a wifi script based on the wlanconfig in bsdinstaller.
here is the code:
https://github.com/gihnius/freebsd-wifi
I think we can make it more suitable for many devices and normal use.
Any idea to write a normal feature script to use freebsd wifi easily ?
and thanks to the author of wlanconfig.

9.2-PRE: switch off that stupid "Nakatomi Socrates"
Hello,
I'd like to switch off this silly "Nakatomi Socrates" message which
reminds me on Linux and their childish naming schemes.
It is only cosmetics, but it bothers me whenever I switch on the laptop.
I guess there is a switch already prsent to have in the bootloader
config?
Thanks,

Upgrading from FreeBSD10-B3 to FreeBSD10-RC1 borked
Followed the instructions here:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/updating-upgrading-freebsdupdate.html
The upgrade borked.
Error message: Can't find 'kernel'
When I checked with ls /boot/kernel/, the directory does exist.
:-(
Since the system has encrypted root partion with ZFSonROOT, I tried to
follow instructions at

[Regression] SVN r244198 broke double-quotes in /etc/sysctl.conf*
Hi all,
It appears as though SVN r244198 introduced a regression.
One that is affecting HEAD and stable/10 (for upcoming 10.0-R)
and was introduced 10 months ago (but does not appear to
have made it into 9.x yet or even stable/9).
The regression introduced by r244198 is that:
Whilst "sysctl -f /etc/sysctl.conf" will parse parameters with
quoted values...

wanting to pkg_add KDE/Gnome post-install
After installing a text-based development environment via /stand/sysinstall
(followed by CVSup, makeworld/kernel etc to 4-8-stable), I realize I want to
install KDE, too.
I initiated this with:
pkg_add -r kdebase
followed again by CVSup etc.
Apparently that wasn't enough. Am getting message "XFree86 setup utility.. not
installed" when trying to config xf86config (text-based) via

Will 5.4 be an "Extended Life" release?
In the next month or two I've got to upgrade a number of servers that
are currently on an EOL'd version of 4-STABLE. I foresee that I'll
have very limited time to do full OS upgrades on these systems in the
coming several years, so I want to make sure I bring them onto an
extended-life branch.
Right now 4.11 has the furthest projected EOL date (Jan 31 2007), and
the projected EOL

Why does sysinstall still limits cylinders to 65535?
Hello,
I have been struglling with sysinstall, attempting to make it handle
the geometry of some large SATA drives. After a lot of effort I
decided to stop suffering and modified the program in order to
circumvent the outdated limit of 65535 cylinders (see attached patch).
I'm thinking about submitting a PR with a change request but I'd like
to get some additional opinions first. I did

FreeBSD 8.3-R sysinstall does not "see" disks that are recognized during boot
I've got a new supermicro server I'm trying to get FreeBSD on. It uses the
Intel c602 chipset, and it's my understanding that support for that
chipset (c60X) was recently added via the isci driver. Ok, great, that
explains why 8.2-R and 9.0-R didn't see the drives.
So, I grabbed the memstick image of 8.3-RELEASE that is on the ftp server,
booted it up, and sure enough, as the

Tracking 4-stable rather than 4.8-stable
Hi,
I would like to follow 4-stable on my FreeBSD box, and i can't fetch
binaries from /stand/sysinstall. Can anyone help me?
Here is how i did:
1) I installed 4.8-RELEASE from CD,
2) I used cvsup to upgrade. For this i used the stable-supfile as shown
in the Handbook.
=> My OS version as shown by 'uname -a' and '/stand/sysinstall' is
"4.8-STABLE".

How to make a customized, unattended install for FreeBSD?
I would like to customize our store-bought, bootable FreeBSD CD
so that it does a non-interactive (or minimally interactive ;-)
install.
The interim solution we've devised has our lab execution
techs booting from a CD and then using the Sysinstall "Load config
file" menu option to load an "install.cfg" file from a floppy.
We'd like to eliminate this step by

using signed certificates for TLS/SSL
Hi,
I have, in one customer, a web server running on a Verisign-signed
certificate SSL certificate. Everything works fine, IE and Firefox
connects on https without asking anything, which usually happens on
self-signed certificates. I'm trying to use that certificate on dovecot,
but clients (Thunderbird basically) keeps saying the certificate is not
valid.

AHCI and correct drive geometry?
Hey folks,
So what's the word on AHCI and bios drive geometry? I'm having a real
pain of a time trying to get some 750gb sata drives running on my
FreeBSD7 box in AHCI mode. It doesn't seem to matter what disk geometry
I suggest to sysinstall, something complains of an invalid disk upon
booting it.
Actually, in AHCI mode the bios screen doesn't report any information on

Verisign Payflow Scripts
Here''s a link to the Verisign scripts we used... We customized ours a bit
but this will get you going.
Graciously provided by Jon at Slantwise Design and posted with permission
(http://www.slantwisedesign.com), these may make it into some other format
someday (gem? Plug in?).
Anyway, of course, no warranty with this code, use at your own risk and
really no support - you''ll have

Adding payment to an app: how hard and risky is it?
Hi all.
I have never implemented online payment and it''s the only thing that
keeps me from accepting a project for a UK based client. (I must reply
quickly!)
While I can afford spending an extra week - or 2 - to learn/try/tune the
payment system, I must be sure to succeed before I accept the contract.
If you''ve already been through that path, any hints, links and/or
