Android ICS stock client and IMAP Capability issue.
Hi, My setup: Dovecot 2 latest, installed to replace courrier IMAP, and off course configured with the dot separator and all folder under INBOX.*. The problem: My phone was driving me mad during the test, due that it will only recognize Inbox. How found the solution: I've started sniffing IMAP traffic on my server and ended up with one difference: On courier it ask for namespace, on

immediate delete of mails
Hello all! I've got a home server running on an ARM Cortex-A7 with my custom Linux distribution. It's also responsible for handling incoming and outgoing mails. The SMTP server is OpenSMTPD-6.0.3p1. I'm using Dovecot-2.3.2.1 to export the mails (mailbox storage format) using IMAP. My old server used to have Dovecot-1.2.0 and honestly, it was absolutely sufficient for me. However,

Evolution: always a 90-second delay
I'm trying to use Evolution on the latest CentOS 7. Whenever I try to receive or send mail, there's always a 90-second delay before the connection works. Since the delay is always exactly 90 seconds, I think I may be waiting for something to time out. Perhaps this is a clue. My address is user at example.com. I have to log in to pop.example.com or imap.example.com as user, not as user at

Fast searching from android device with Dovecot/Maildir
Hello, I am using dovecot as an imap server, mail is stored in mail directories. Configuration is below. One mail directory has about 14 Gb of mail in the inbox and .Sent directories. Searching from an Android phone with gmail is slow or doesn't work (it times out). Is there a configuration for Dovecot that can improve this? A better e-mail client for Android? Thanks, John root at

Too stupid for sieve (former maildrop user)
Hello, I just migrated from Postfix/Courier/Maildrop to Postfix/Dovecot/Deliver/Sieve and don't unterstand the right syntax for sieve :( I searched and found many small examples and many links to the RFC, but nothing was usefull for me (or i didn't unterstand it) I installed the latest Dovecot-Sieve (hg). Examples from my maildrop config: # Filter FROM if($E =~ /name at domain1\.tld/)

Accessing mail files not owned by imap login user
Hi, I have managed to set up a 'maildir' based mail system using fetchmail and procmail that delivers sorted mail to folders /var/spool/mail/user1, ../user2 etc. 'user1', 'user2' etc. are real users but the mail system is run under logged in user 'mailserver'. The mail folders are owned by 'user1', 'user2' etc. but mail files, when delivered, are

dovecot/FreeBSD and Android IMAP clients
Dear Colleagues, I have a fairly vanilla setup of dovecot on FreeBSD, serving IMAP and POP3. Thunderbird/IMAP works fine, and so does mutt/IMAP. However, Android clients (Gmail/IMAP and K-9 Mail) have problems accessing folders other than the INBOX. They either show them empty with no mails (K-9) or just wait forever to view the contents (Gmail app). Do I need to set up some workarounds or

Filtering Mails - how?
Hello, I've got some problems about understanding, how to filter my incoming mails. I am using dovecot 1.0.beta3 (ubuntu server) and want to implement a filter, where I can filter all my incoming messages (like the ones from the dovecot ml) to special folders within the mailbox of each user (for each user a special set of filters). Is there a chance to do this in dovecot or have I to use

client cannot list subfolders
Hi, I'm having a problem with the Sylpheed mail client and dovcot 1.0.rc15. Sylpheed does not like how dovecot is returning LIST output so it cannot see subfolders. Note: Sylpheed 2.4 actually works with the same server so apparently something in a newer version of Sylpheed has changed. This is some dialog with the Sylpheed mailing list: > > Apparently it sees them but they're

problem with COPY?
hi all, I've been trying to use dovecot (from cvs 03.mar.2003, linux 2.2.20, gcc 2.96, openssl 0.9.7a) as an replacement for uw-imap, and it seems to be doing its job, except for one thing: I have my mua (sylpheed-claws from cvs) set up so that it will sort message into certain(imap) directories. so when I check the mail in the INBOX, new mails will be processed automatically and, for

imap indexing error when moving multiple mails
Hi, I've got an 'interesting' problem with a dovecot 0.99.10.4 setup on NetBSD/i386 1.6ZK. dovecot is serving imap only at the moment, using mbox format mailboxes. '/etc/dovecot.conf' is pretty vanilla - among the modified settings, mail_read_mmaped = yes maildir_check_content_changes = yes mbox_lock = fcntl could be relevant. Anyway - from time to time when I move a

Good email client to use with Dovecot?
Hi all, When I use an email client, its purpose is as a window into my Dovecot IMAP, and as a mechanism to reply to and send emails. I don't do filtering or calendaring on my email client (filtering via procmail direct to Dovecot). What email clients are all of you using to look at your IMAP email? about filtering and dovecot
Hi I would like to set up a local mailserver but I'm getting lost with all the available options. As I have already decided to use dovecot I hope someone here will be able to point me to the right docs/HOWTO's/... Here's my wish-list: 1) download mail from my ISP's POP3-server 2) scan with spamassassin 3) scan with ClamAV 4) filter messages (mailing lists/sender/...) 5) store

Why does dovecot confuse mutt?
Heylas, I just switched my primary mail server from courier imap to dovecot (I've been waiting to do this; dovecot showed up in debian testing for alpha, at last). So, using the same set of maildirs, there are slightly different behaviors. First, of course, dovecot displays the hierarchy as I thought it ought to be, such that INBOX is a sibling of all other top-level boxes, not the parent
