prototype: leak with Element.extend
Had a nasty memory leak that was seriously slowing down the browser and eating up a couple megabytes every reload. I was using: $$(''.dyntable'').each(function(elm) { new DynTable(elm) }); To set up my behavior, but discovered that just running: $$(''.dyntable''); Caused the memory leak all by itself. The fix I found for it was to change Element.extend to a

[semi-OT] Find position of floated elements
I am trying to find the actual _displayed_ position of a floated element using Javascript. Does anyone know of a technique to do this? I know that per the CSS2 spec, floated elements are removed from the flow and thus don''t really have a position (AFAIK). However, I am trying to find the position in which the item is actually displayed. Prototype''s Position object only

OT: Which SIP method to use for this specific behaviour ?
Hello, Let SIP extensions 1001 and 1002 belong to an Asterisk calling group : whenever an coming call reaches this calling group, both extensions 1001 and 1002 receive a SIP INVITE message which makes these 2 phones starting to ring. When a callee picks up his phone, the other extension receives a CANCEL or BYE message which stops ringing. Is there any option you can include in CANCEL or BYE

OT: DHCP address pool for specific MAC manufacturer
Dear CentOS, This is somewhat off-topic, but I do hope to implement this on a CentOS system, so here goes... I would like to be able to setup a dhcpd (or like) daemon to maintain two IP address pools. One for devices whose leading three octets of the client MAC address are specified and the other for all other clients. Both pools would be a defined range on a commmon /24 subnet. There a

OT - Detect selected text with JavaScript
Hello, Does anyone know if it is possible for JavaScript to detect what text is currently selected by a user? I would like to allow the user to select some text and then grab that text using JS. I saw these guys do it : http://www.enlighter.com/ but I''m not sure if its possible to do this using JS only or if it needs a browser extension. Thanks! --Dave.

This is way OT, but here goes... I''ve had an iBook for 2 days now and am debugging a web built with prototype/script aculo / windows / etc... I have no real experience on a Mac. OT: Software for specific visualisation of data...ideas?
Dear List, A student in the Department where I work would like to produce a graphic similar to this one: http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-files/Guardian/documents/2009/09/16/Public_spending_160909.pdf Does anyone know if the figure in the pdf can be generated in a specific software application for example? Any suggestions would be most gratefully received by the student concerned. Many thanks,

semi-OT: t-bird mime type on .pdf attachment is wrong
I was sending my manager a copy of a form, and attached it (not inline), using -t-bird, and he complains it didn't want to open. Looking at the message source, t-bird had decided that the mime type was all/allfiles, though the name ended in .pdf. I've searched via the config editor, and I've been googling, and not finding anything. (I just *adore* the current google: I have

Simulating UW Snarf...
I already wrote to Timo, but I thought some others on this list may have had a similar situation. So here goes: The scenario at Michigan Technological University stems from long standing traditions and policies that probably won't change. That said, two of the policies are 1.)we don't bounce mail and 2.)we guarantee delivery when we accept a piece of mail. The UW IMAP

It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't! Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc. VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open. Betamax was

[slightly OT] predict.randomForest and type=”prob”
Dear all , I would like to use the function randomForest to predict the probability of relocation failure of a GPS collar as a function of several environmental variables x (both factor and numeric: slope, vegetation, etc.) on a given area. The response variable y is thus success (0)/failure(1) of the relocation, and the sampling unit is the pixel of a raster map. My aim is to build a map
