Hi there thanks for the answer. >> But are their better ways / best practices? >You'll have to ask questions like these on a Shiny forum. Done. SF Beer & Pizza SIG - review and forecast
Wednesday''s Beer & Pizza SIG was attended by about a dozen Rubyists, plus one extremely well-dressed gentleman (no hacker he!) who was on the prowl for Rubyists to hire. Beer and Pizza (among other things) were consumed, Ruby (among other things) was discussed, and everyone appeared to have a good time. The upcoming SIG will, as announced previously, be held just up the street at

Alternatives to Digium 729
Per my conversation below with digium, are there any legal alternatives to digium's G729? It is out of date, and doesn't support VAD nor silence detection. Digium has stated that they have no plans to update it anytime soon. VAD/Silence is a big deal with major carriers and we are having to fight a battle to get them to make special arrangements to turn off VAD/Silence in their

0.19.2?
Hi all, Should I put out a 0.19.2 release before I get started on the significant amount of parser work I''ll be doing in the next few weeks? I''ve fixed some significant bugs that exist in 0.19.1, and I''d plan on fixing the most recently submitted bugs before the release. -- I worry that the person who thought up Muzak may be thinking up something else. --Lily

Rails resources, blogs, forums, etc?
Hi everyone, Already in the span of a week or so I''ve learned exponentially from your collective minds. So, first off, thanks for being such a good community. In addition to everything here i''m wondering what the top RoR-related blogs are - abundant with content and frequently updated. Are there any that would be consensus among rails enthusiasts? The same with web-based

Opinion on different web server setups?
This is not directly a Rails question but you lot seem the best to ask... I have a strong feeling we will be developing future apps in Rails (Ruby fans are slowly starting to outnumber cynics in my office) so I want a web server plan that will be appropriate for that. We have just bought two new web servers I want to turn into a load-balanced, redundant pair. As well as any Rails

declaring dependencies of shiny app in inst/
Dear all, I have a package implementing a shiny app, putting the R code of the app (server.R and ui.R) in inst/... and then having a simple function merely starting the app with something along the lines of: runApp(system.file("inst/...")) However, the app itself uses functions from packages which are not used elsewhere in the code. What is the best way to declare these dependencies

RedirectHandler? mongrel_rewrite?
Hey guys. I''ve been playing with RedirectHandler and it''s pretty neat, but I question its usefulness. At work we do the trendy "/javascripts/spy.1152734636.js"-style asset includes rather than the default Rails style of "/javascripts/spy.js? 1152734636". This is no problem with mod_rewrite as we run the basic Apache => Pen => Mongrel setup.

Hardware design of an Opus IP
Hi everybody, I was wondering if there would be interest in having a hardware IP implementing Opus (hardware as in VHDL/Verilog description)? Does that make sense? Several companies that seem to have an interest in Opus (such as Skype, Mozilla, Broadcom, Orange, Huawei) could thus have a dedicated, efficient, low-power solution for phones and tablets. As LTE is being deployed en masse, it

call files .vbs
This may be an obvious reflection of my Asterisk/Linux/Windows weaknesses but I want to know in any case! Can a vb script run somehow on a Linux machine or does it only work on Windows? If I were to build a call file script (described in this link http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk+auto-dial+out ) then how does it work if my Asterisk machine is running on Centos 5.5? puppetd.pid and SMF woes
So when puppetd crashes/whatever, and a pid file is left behind, SMF in Solaris will try restarting puppet, but fail. And then it sits there restarting it forever. I''m not sure if I can adjust the flap detection in SMF.. it isn''t disabling the service for "restarting too quickly" because it takes so long to start. Probably because I''m NFS-mounting ruby. The
