From: Haiku - http://www.haiku-os.org/about
To: FreeDesktop.org
GNU/Linux has gained quite some momentum on the desktop, with the help
of Gnome and KDE environments, and the FreeDesktop.org project.
Haiku is a Free Software (BSD/MIT) desktop targeted operating system,
designed to present a coherent and simple to use environment, inspired
by BeOS.
Although Haiku does not use X11, it provides

[fdo] Lots of wiki content rewritten
Hi,
To try to bring our wiki 'up to date' (as in, no longer talking about
CVS), I've gone through and rewritten a lot of the wiki content for
our main landing pages: our front page, the software and
specifications pages, the infrastructure pages, and even (to an
extent) the mission statement.
A lot of this is trying to describe how we've interpreted these things
over the past ten

[fdo] Detect my own session being closed
Hello:
I created a backup program that uses an external HD to do the backups, and
it is designed to allow several users to share the same hard disk by
storing each backup in a different folder. To ensure that the backups are
always made, it automatically mounts the backup hard disk when it detects
it (using udisk2 DBus interface). The first problem is that if the backup

[fdo] Detect my own session being closed
The problem is that I don't want to have a system service, because I
would also need a communication protocol, an arbitration algorithm... I
think that there should be an API in logind that would allow a program
to block the logout the same than it allows to block shutdown and
reboot, and being notified of that. In fact, sometimes I receive a
notification in Gnome Shell telling me that

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi!
I have been in discussion with several other accessibility projects to
work on a common API for speech synthesis and speech recognition drivers.
I suggested to discuss this on a mailing list and to found a new list at
freedesktop.org for this purpose. Since there are also a number of other
accessibility related areas where cooperation is

[fdo] Create a freedesktop directory my own personal way
Let's say I'd like to create a directory for urgent stuff I need to deal
with. I'd put this line on ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs:
XDGURGENTDIR=?\$HOME/Urgent?
Right?
But now, how do I assign a custom icon to it?
I know I can just change the icon for any folder or file under
properties, but that's not what I want! I'd like to do it "the right way".

[fdo] Authenticating/verifying freedesktop projects source
Hi,
I would like to recompile a version of ModemManager supporting the Voice
interface. That is why I have to use the source code from the master
branch and not the 1.4 version. This also requires me to download libqmi
from a repository, because 1.12 is too old for this. How do I verify the
source?
Unfortunately:
- nor git commits, nor tags seem to be signed,
- HTTPS-accessible source

[fdo] Ssh service interruption of freedesktop.org
Hi admins, thank you for maintaining useful development
resources. But I'm in trouble. Please help.
I and some developers are unable to use ssh login over 24 hours.
Is there a intended service interruption? Or some problems are
lying?
I and some developers could slogin to freedesktop.org before the
problem had occurred. My local environment has not altered in
recent days.

[fdo] Freedesktop sdk aka 'tiny base runtime' project
Hi all,
So i wanted to kick off this mailing list by trying to round up a few
things which have been discussed recently, at GUADEC, in f2f
conversations afterwards, or shot over emails between a few people. It's
been discussed for a while that we want to create a tiny base runtime
with bst. The upshot is this will homogenize the metadata used in the
build process for Flatpak, GNOME
