Globalize3 gem, upload data from CSV
Rails 3.1.3 Globalize3 latest I am not sure if I can ask this question here in general Rails forum. But I''ll try. Currently I am using a gem, Globalize3, which is useful for model I18n. https://github.com/svenfuchs/globalize3 Say, I have a model City, having only one column, name. City names appear differently depending on the language, so perhaps this particular gem is useful.

+ migrations in camping
Camping apps are supposed to be little independent apps, often contained in a single file, which create the database tables and manage them without hassle. These days it''s common to see in a Camping app: module Tepee::Models def self.schema(&block) @@schema = block if block_given? @@schema end end Tepee::Models.schema do create_table :tepee_pages,

walkthrough: Rails 2.0 startup process
I haven’t found a complete big-picture walkthrough for the Rails startup process when I looked for one recently. There are some really useful resources about this but they are for Rails 1.2 and each of them only covers certain parts of the process. Thus, I’ve taken some notes while reading to the Rails code and compiled the following guide from them.

Validation error message header not translated (activerecord.errors.template.header seems to be ignored in YAML localization file)
Hello, i am not sure where to report this, i have created an issue at https://github.com/svenfuchs/rails-i18n/issues/118 It seems that activerecord.errors.template.header is ignored in YAML localization file. Changing or translating it has no effect on the rendered header for validation errors. Thank you for any comments, Alexey. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to

"invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII" on i18n form
I''m getting the error "invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII" when using i18n on Rails 3.0.0beta with Ruby 1.9.1. I''ve searched extensively on Google and the problem seems to happen with 2.3.x versions as well (when using Ruby 1.9.1). I just set the default language to portuguese and added this locale file:

migrations still
I think I am pissing into the wind to make migrations work at this point. Looking at http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/UnderstandingMigrations it appears that the problem that I am having is that postgresql can''t do the drop_table part because of the foreign_key keys (constraints) which requires ''cascade'' as an option to drop some of the tables that have other

rake migrate VERSION=0 doesn''t appear to execute
All, I''ve decided to jump into Migrations before I get too far along on the DB side of things. I already have some tables built, and I went ahead and built the migration that would have created them from scratch, and I made sure that there was a self.down section to drop them. I wanted to verify that I could roll back so I figured I would use rake to drop these pre-existing tables

Rails 3: finding a record by name in multilingual app
Hello, I upgraded my application from Rails 2 to Rails 3 and ran into a problem. In rails 2 I could use the english name of the record to find it like: Page.find_by_name("Welcome") even though the user chose German as the language (which of course showed the German welcome page.
