Will CentOS 6's upstream be based on Fedora 10?
Hi All, The subject says it all. I'm asking because I've found Fedora 9 to be buggy as hell - it is one of the worst Fedora releases I've ever used (and I've been using it since Fedora Core 1). I'm putting up with it for my work laptop, but it's not fun. :( My main home machine is still on Fedora Core 6 and will stay there until CentOS 6 comes out. I don't want to

rsync-2.5.6 performance sucks between winXP and Solaris8
If I try to rsync OpenOffice-directory (OO as an example, 155 MBytes) to Solaris8-machine/rsync-server it takes 4-5 minutes, about 70 MBytes gets transfered and eventually rsync.exe/winXP "dies"; actually winXP's net doesn't responde anymore and I have to boot whole machine! But when I try to do same between Linux and Solaris everything works fine, transfer speed is about

Any Xen kernel based on something newer than 2.6.18 ?
Hello all, I''m trying to get my servers to work with Xen, but as I use sata2, it looks like only a recent kernel will do the job. But unferotunately, ony and official 2.6.8 is provided, which doesn''t boot at all on those machines. I''ve tried ubuntu''s 2.6.22-xen, but ti looks very buggy. Where could we find patches for 2.6.22/23 to add Xen? How could I gete a

udev fails in guest, which seem to lead to getty hanging.
Hi, I got a centos guest started on fc6 finally by creating the mkinitrd by hand. But the thing is centos seem to hang after the services are started properly and just before the login prompt. I also notice that ''udev'' is failing at the beginning, which could be why mingetty hangs. I am guessing that udev is the service that creates the necessary ttys. So is there something I

wine and build difference between R.2.4.0 and R 2.4.1 windows binaries?
Does anybody (most probably the core team) know if there is any difference in how the official 2.4.0 and 2.4.1 binaries are built? Problem is, 2.4.0 loads with the wine (I tried a few recent versions, and also used 2.3.x under wine from time to time), but 2.4.1 won't. Thanks. Hin-Tak Leung

Astsee v0.1 released - an Asterisk channel monitor for linux/X windows
Hiya everyone. I have been working on a fun little app to watch what's going on in your asterisk box via its manager interface. There's a screenshot up and some info at http://sitkavoip.com/astsee/ -- Sorry it requires allegro, but I was more keen about getting the ideas down than worrying about the framework. Comments/questions welcome, but probably off-list is best unless they

LLVMBuildLandingPad is wrong on 3.7
Hi all, During the dev in between 3.6 and the release of 3.7, the personality function was moved from the landingpad to the function itself. During theses events, LLVMBuildLandingPad was changed, twice. The first time in a backward incompatible way, the second in a backward compatible way. As things are now, the backward incompatible way is in 3.7 and the backward compatible in master. Meaning

Fedora user moving to CentOS
Greetings, I'm a Fedora user likely going to switch to CentOS in the next few days. I'm wondering if anyone has some heads up advice for me? I am very familiar with FC6 and before so I anticipate few problems I haven't already seen (and know were fixed). The main reason for the move is so I don't have to re-install so frequently and hopefully not have to deal with so many

[LLVMdev] VS build is broken again
> Is it reasonable to ask Yes, it's reasonable. Moreover, I'd be content with a build system that doesn't use MSVS IDE at all. If the build system could be parameterized to use microsoft cl compiler (cygwin gcc is useless for my purposes), e.g. something like in Boost project, I'd be more than happy to never care about VS project files. Yet, I want to limit my involvement

. (dot) in maildir folder names
Hi. Uhm... yeah as the topic implies I want to have . (dots) in my folder names... Unfortunately dovecot's maildirmake hasn't a -f switch as the one from courier/maildrop, but that one in turn is buggy[0] and doesn't encode any characters at all. In principle, maildir++ should allow[1] having (encoded) dots in folder names,... but I don't quite understand how the encoding

MS-DOS Batch File Commands
I'm trying to get the AndroidSDK going under Wine. There are problems with the MS-DOS commands (for example, the /D option with the 'For' command and the use of options to apply to the Path environment varaible (to prevent space being used as a delimiter between path folders) it uses in the supplied batch files it calls from a supplied .exe file. I presume that the cmd.exe (in

rgl update: please test!
(This is bcc'd to a list of people who have had problems with rgl lately or who are known to be big users; not cc'd, so you don't all get cc'd all the responses on the R-devel list). I've just put together a test build of rgl, and put it on my web site as http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software/rgl_0.70.564.tar.gz (source) and

[LLVMdev] Aggregate store/load optimization
Hi all, One area where LLVM suck pretty badly is aggregate store and loads. clang do not use them so there are not seen as important, and aren't handled nicely. Other frontends work around the issue as it is not handled properly and we ends up with some kind of chicken and egg issue. I recently proposed a diff to be able to optimize load from aggregate stores in GVN without great success.
