ActiveRecord, insert and not auto-incremented primary keys...
Hi,
After playing while with ActiveRecord, I''m surprised it isn''t easier to insert data into a table whose primary key is not auto-incremented by the database server.
The following code...

DRbFire / ActiveRecord performances
Hi,
I''m using drbfire to send a "DRbUndumped" ActiveRecord object from the server to the client, through an ADSL line of 4Mbits/s download, and 600Kbits/s upload. I was afraid there would be too many round-trips between the client and the server, and unfortunately this is true:
Server code:

Learning FXRuby please help!
Hi all,
I''m trying to get text on to the screen in response to pressing a
button. This code doesn''t work, and I don''t know why. My puts command
says that the window is shown, but it''s not displayed.
Also, it seems to me that there should be an easier way to get text on a
screen in response to pressing a button. Any hints? Thanks!

Is that the same as Kendall's tau, as in cor(..., method="kendall")?

GLM Logit and coefficient testing (linear combination)
Hi,
I am running glm logit regressions with R and I would like to test a
linear combination of coefficients (H0: beta1=beta2 against H1:
beta1<>beta2). Is there a package for such a test or how can I perform
it otherwise (perhaps with logLik() ???)?
Additionally I was wondering if there was no routine to calculate pseudo
R2s for logit regressions. Currently I am calculating the pseudo R2

Problem with hasArg() using R-files
Please do give reproducible example. The code you gave, which you claimed

Panel Data Estimators (within, between, Random Effects estimator)
Dear R Users,
Here is another probelm/question.
I would like to run some panel regressions with R. Therefore I have
combined several time periods of data for different individuals in my
database.
I have already run pooled OLS but I would need to calculate a Fixed
Effects Estimator (within estimator). Unfortunately I couldn't find
anything like that in the RSearch and I suppose that lme

Copy-paste between FXTable and FXTextfield
Hi,
I''m using FXRuby 1.6.13 under Windows XP / Ruby 1.8.6.
I''ve noticed something strange when copying-pasting things between
FXTable cells, and FXTextfields.
----------------------------------------------
1) When copying the content of an FXTextfield, and pasting it into an
FXTable cell, everything works fine.
2) When selecting an FXTable cell, issuing a "copy"

multiple comparisons after glm
Dear list members,
I have a question concerning multiple comparisons after using glm.
My response variable is days until emergence of an insect species. The explanatory variables are sex (two levels), parasitoids added (two levels) and populations (34 levels). I would like to know now which populations are different in days until insect emergence.
For this I used multiple comparisons as

problem with nls()
I wanted to use the nls() module to solve a Problem from Sen & Srivastava
(1990, p.209). Here is the (basic) code used to perform the estimation:

nls1.obj <- nls(R.1 ~ b.0 + b.1*(I.1^a.1-1)/a.1 + b.2*(S.1^a.2-1)/a.2,

Problem with new version of R: Mutated vocals
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I have recently installed the latest version of R (4.3.3) for windows. Now I have the following problems with mutated vowels like ?, ?, etc. Here is an example:
If I type the command:
Dir <- "C/Users/macho/Documents/_LVn/Experimentelle ?bungen"
in the R console there is no problem. However, if I put the same command into a source file (e.g. Test.r) and call

lmer refuses nested random factors
I am trying to run the following model in R

PLANT),data=cyphoplantfeeding,family=poisson)
My experimental setup is 41 replicates (TEST) of an experiment in
which there are three Geocytotypes of a plant species in each TEST,
and two plant pseudoreplicates per Geocytotype in each test (i.e.
3*2=6 plants per test). So my random factors are trying

Table for clustering dendrogram
Dear all,
I am using the hclust method in R. I am building nice dendrograms with it.
Actually for my further analysis I want to get the number of bifurcations
(bif) for each object (labels) in the dendrogram. That has to be calculated
by the colums merge, height and order.

Problem using stepAIC/addterm (MASS package)
Hello,
I'm currently dealing with a rather strange problem when using the
function "stepAIC" ("MASS" package). The setting is the following: From
model learning data sets ("learndata"), I want to be able to build
prediction functions (in order to save them in a file for further use).
This is done by the function "pred.function" (see below). Therein,

[PATCH 1/2] Ocfs2: Add a new code 'OCFS2_INFO_FREEINODE' for o2info ioctl.
The new code is dedicated to calculate free inodes number of all inode_allocs,
then return the info to userpace in terms of an array.
Specially, flag 'OCFS2_INFO_FL_NON_COHERENT', manipulated by '--cluster-coherent'
from userspace, is now going to be involved. setting the flag on means no cluster
coherency considered, usually, userspace tools choose none-coherency strategy by

I saw this posting by Christopher Robert Woods. I am having the identical

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:

Qt client with rails? Does it make sense?
Hi,
A quick question from a beginner: does it make sense to build the UI of a rails application with Qt, instead of bulding a web application? The idea would be to reuse parts of rails (like ActiveRecords) to write the logic on the server, and build the (complex) UI faster, with a client-based framework.
On the client, ruby *could* be used too, since QtRuby exists.
