Installing rmagick gem with RVM
Hello,
I start using RVM for using Rails 3 and Rails 2 for some applications.
At the moment I can''t install the rmagick gem in the new Ruby
environment.
I use Mac OSX and I installed already imagemagick via ports and this was
working before using RVM, I succeed also to install the rmagick gem
before installing RVM.
Here is the output of the install command :

Rails, Mongrel and Rmagick
i have a rails app with a form that allows uploading an image file. I take
the image file and read it into rmagick to verify that it''s an image. For
some reason I can''t catch an exception thrown by rmagick inside the app.
After an invalid image file is uploaded the process just hangs. I have to
kill mongrel and restart to use the app again.

Multiple view types for a single action?
Is it possible to have more than one kind of view for a specific action,
for example an .rhtml and a .rjs file to handle the view for the same
action?
I suspect not, but this makes me wonder if there a way to call the .rjs
file from within the .rhtml so the statements within it get executed?
Thanks,
Andy

What is the h for?
In the "Agile Web Development with Rails" book it runs through making an
example application, a shopping cart.
In one of the views files, there is one line of code I dont understand
(below), I dont know what the "h" is for, also I took the h out, and it
did not affect the application (as far as i could see).
<%= h(product.title) %>
Can anyone shed some light on this

How to determine if an object has just been created
Is there a built-in way to determine if a model object has just been
created (ie. this object was the one that was originally persisted)? I
can''t see it anywhere in the AR code, but thought I''d check. I want
something like:
p = Person.create
p.original_instance? # true
Is this built-in or should I just patch AR?

RMagick Instant Rails install problem
Anyone help with this?
Am running Instant Rails on Win XP Sp2. Have downloaded the
RMagick-win32-1.9.2 files into c:\Instant-Rails-1.0\temp from the

ImageMagick/Rmagick replacement?
Hi, everyone!
I have been recently hit by ImageMagick/Rmagick memory leak issues.
I know I can lesson the problem by manually starting up GC each time
I use Rmagick library but ImageMagick seems to use way too much
memory nevertheless. (on shared hosting setup anyway)
Is there a decent replacement for ImageMagick library? I used to
think ImageMagick was quite efficient because its

RMagick problems
I read the 13th recipe in the book "Rails Recipes" from Chad Fowler. I
install with gem the gruff-library (gem install gruff). After the
installation, I download the "rmagick-win32-1.13.0_IM-6.2.9-3.zip" file
and install it on my win32-machine. It was successfully!
So, I create a controller with script/generate. In a method, which I
wrote after the creation, I''ll make
