EdgeRails with other Gems like RMagick
I am using EdgeRails, and have some of the plugin''s using gems such as
Rmagick which are included through a command similar to "require_gems
''rmagick''".
Curious how to handle such attempts at inclusion when I am no longer bound
to the system gems and am using the code strictly within vendor/rails and
such.
Is there a way to point require_gems to another

Problem using rvm in bash script
I am using rvm installed on Ubuntu 10.04 as recommended in the rvm
docs (including changes to .bashrc) and all is working well with
several versions of Rails, and Ruby 1.8.7 and 1.9.2.
If I run
rvm use 1.9.2
it says
Using /home/colinl/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p0
and if I run
rvm info
It shows exactly what I would expect for 1.9.2 and I can start the
rails server and all is well.
The problem arises if

Hi guys,
I wanted to fetch some info from webpage and use it in my db. I read
hpricot is one way to do it. But the problem is I''m unable to use it
with my app. For some reason after successfully installing hpricot it
fails when I try to use it in the rails console.
I''ve been trying to fix this for the last four-five days. I''m stumped !
I tried re-installing everything

xmlsimple not found
I''ve been working through the Flickr tutorial, and it looks like I
installed the Flickr gem with the require xml-simple gem without
problems. But when I got to the point in the demo when it was time to
submit the form, I got an error with the message "uninitialized constant

I did some poking around at the gem repository, and ran ''ruby

Rails 1.1 in Production
My hosting company is still supporting only Rails 1.0. I have installed
Rails 1.1.2 to my vendor directory and deployed it in production which
should mean that my application should be using the Rails version in my
vendor diretory. But It looks like its still using local gem libraries, here
is the error from dispatch.fcgi when I try and invoke my app

Invoking Rails from an API
Hi,
I am trying to use ruby int an embedded web server. The environment
does not have the luxury of CGI or WebBrick. I find limited
documentation on how to get this to work. As a test program on windows,
I tried the code in the section below.
I have the issues.
1. Is public/dispatch.rb the right script to invoke a rails app? If
so, what is the right way to invoke dispatch.rb?

Camping on Dreamhost - Please Help!
Hi Folks,
I''ve been trying to get camping up and running on dreamhost for the
past six hours, but have had no success. I''d really appreciate any
suggestions!
The camping gem is on the dreamhost server, but just to make sure it
wasn''t a dependency issue causing all the problems, I installed
camping + the full set of dependencies in my own gem directory (both
are on the

mongrel cluster and local gems loading problem
Hello,
I''m trying to augment the GEM_PATH to load gems from ~/.gem/ using this
at the begging of the rails application config/environment.rb file:
ENV[''GEM_PATH''] = File.expand_path(''~/.gem'')
This works fine from within script/console:
$ script/console
>> require ''pdf/writer''
=> true
But when I try to run:

Cannot find gem for Rails error from dispatch.cgi
Hi All,
I''m developing a Rails app with Rails v1.1.4, but when I upload it to
Dreamhost and try to serve it with dispatch.cgi, I get the error "Cannot find
gem for Rails =1.1.4". However, I have installed the 1.1.4 gem in my home
directory and set GEM_PATH to look there; additionally, rake throws no errors
and "rails -v" displays "Rails 1.1.4". Any

gem question on hosted service
All,
This may be a gem question (not rails) but I feel sure someone else on
this list has seen this issue go by. I use a hosting service that has
ROR available, but I am among the few developers using it. I am
developing on a local linux box, and have been very careful to NOT use
any extra gems because I might have a problem with my provider.
Well ... fastercsv rocks and I wanted to use it.

Gems in ~/.gem vs in the Library
Hello all,
I am completely new to Ruby on Rails.
When i install gems some of them
get installed to ~/.gem folder as apparently the other location is not
writable.
What is the best way to go about this: chmod the folder in Library,
let gems go to ~/.gem, sudo install gems always? What do you guys use?
Thanks in advance,
Wojtek

Autotest rspec issues
I''m having trouble getting autotest to run "out of the box" with rspec.
I''ve got a Leopard setup with Zentest 3.5.0, rspec on trunk, and rails
2.0PR. No ".autotest" file.
There are a couple of issues:
1. Running ''autotest'' inititally yields a command not found for "spec
--diff unified etc etc". This seems to be an old issue but

Camping-list Digest, Vol 15, Issue 2
Eli,
This is interesting. I enabled DEBUG logging in Apache and tailed the
error.log. Lo and behold, you''re right, its a problem with one of my
require statements. Namely:
`gem_original_require'': no such file to load -- camping/fastcgi (LoadError)
Strange, it works fine when I do it in IRB, or do it from a ruby script at
the bash prompt. Apache runs as the same user that
