select_month helper
I''m trying to rewrite a fusebox-like application (Active4D plugin to
4D database) in RoR/postgres and I''m doing okay - but keep running
into things that stump me. It seems like it takes me hours to figure
out something that I could have written in pure code in minutes.
The select_month and select_day helper has been my latest waste of
time. All I''m trying to do is add

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on
netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a
quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed
myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books.
But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500
server errors.

Ruby/rails port of Cocoon/hibernate
Hi,
I''m currently running an apache/jboss cocoon/flow/hibernate/ajax
paypal (directpayment) project and am looking into the possibility of
porting it across to ruby/rails. For that reason I would like to know
the following:
1. Can I call my java classes or would I be looking at a complete
rewrite in ruby?
2. How effective is ruby in terms of seperation of concerns regarding

Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream
Why Ruby on Rails won''t become mainstream
http://beust.com/weblog/archives/000382.html
Kind of interesting, but didn''t convince me. Though, yeah, I can imagine
a lot of naive programmers sticking with PHP and VB (the type of crowd
that also doesn''t run their own servers, so they''re dependent on hosts
offering Rails for them). Rails DOES have an IDE - soon

Rails VS ASP 2.0 on IIS and Windows 2003 server
I''m working in a complex web app that could have 1000+ users within the next
year. It must be run on Windows 2003. Current db is SqlServer 2000. Company
is deciding between Rails and ASP 2.0. I''d like to get some feedback on
which would be the best to develop in. ( I prefer Rails :)
1. Will Rails be stable in that environment? Will it work with IIS?
2. Is it better for

Interesting Framework Speed Test Results. Shows Rails 1.2.1 trailing 1.1.6.
I found this little post over at the Slicehost forums (http://
forums.slicehost.com):
http://www.alrond.com/en/2007/jan/25/performance-test-of-6-leading-
frameworks/
Speed test between Rails (1.1.6 and 1.2.1), Django (w/wo psyco and
threaded/pre-forked), TurboGears, Symfony, Catalyst etc. Nginx as the
front-end for all of them.
Even though they are simulated numbers I thought it might be

translating RoR framework into the Java environment
For a company study I am trying to come up with what would one need
to replicate *grosso modo and at the functional level* what we get in
Rails. This does not need to be an "equivalent" solution, just what a
Java programmer would build upon, the canonical aggregation of
components, the usual tools.
My first fraft is:
Struts -> C layer

Django 1.5 Upgrade
Anyone here using django on centos.
On my Mac, running python 2.7, I upgraded from 1.4 to 1.5 by doing this:
rm -rf /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages/django
Followed by python setup.py install in the dir I untar-ed Django-1.5.1 to.
This all worked fine.
On a Centos system running python 2.6 I did:
rm -rf /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django followed by the
setup.py install. My django app

I've decided to use Rails... (I hope I made the right decision).
I''ve read a ton of comparisons that compare one framework to another,
and one language to another. There''s so much conflicting advice out
there that it''s hard to know what is best. Did I make the right
choice choosing Rails for my first web project? I guess we''ll see.
The only reason why I''m hesitant is that a lot of the big name sites

SQL passdb lookups not working
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to make dovecot do user authentication against a SQL
database. The passwords (managed by Django) are stored as salted SHA1
encoded in hex. I monkey patched Django's password method so that the
password hash is made with <password><salt> (Django does
<salt><password>, the patched method was verified to return same value

Question on Rails 3 : forms && ORM && ActiveModel
I''m a Django/Catalyst user that''s evaluating Rails ... I need a Ruby
framework, and I''m trying to see if learning Rails is worth it or I
should just go for Sinatra + various libs available.
Django has a couple of things I like ...
1) the Forms API
In Django I like that it''s being decoupled from models ... form
objects have fields with validation rules that
