Don''t know how to compile tc
I am trying to build iproute2-2.4.7-20010824 from source on a 2.4.24
kernel. I have played a bit with ADDLIB and LDLIBS variables but I
always get errors so I suppose it''s best if instead of playing I try to
understand what does the following mean (from the README file):
ADDLIB should contain inet_* functions, if your libc contains
obsolete resolver library (<4.9.4) and you have no

Samba 4
Hello,
this is the first time I write to the samba list and I hope my question
is not off topic.
I want to set up a samba server to replace an Active Directory for my
Windows workstations.
So far, I have a LINUX network that works perfectly, all my users are
stored in a LDAP server and their authentication is done against a MIT
Kerberos server. Hence all users have a valid kerberos ticket

iproute2 tool compiling problems.
Hi all.
This is my first msg in this list, and I´d
appreciate any help you could give me.
I already compiled the kernel with the options to
run iproute2 tools. But, when I download the
iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss010824.tar.gz file from
ftp://ftp.inr.ac.ru/ip-routing/ and try to compile it,
I got too many errors. Here goes the output:

static linking of /usr/sbin/tc?
Hello,
I am trying to revive an old linux server installation, which still has
libc5. Sadly, most current software does not compile anymore on this
system, including the tc utility. As with other tools (net-tools,
coreutils, procps etc.) I tried to compile and statically link
(LDFLAGS=-static) on a more recent linux machine and copy the static
binaries over to the old machine.
But no luck

HOWTO unmaintained?
Hi,
more than a month ago I proposed an addition to the HOWTO to address a
certain packet classification problem/bug and how to fix it (see
http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2005q3/016728.html).
I never received any reaction from the HOWTO maintainers, not even
when addressing them directly (see mail below).
Given that a month has gone by: Is the HOWTO currently unmaintained?

patch: HTB update for ADSL users
OK, here it is. Near perfect bandwidth calculation for ADSL users.
Patch iproute2 with the HTB stuff and then this:
It''s still a hack (as far as I can tell) because we are patching the
rates tables, and hence I think it is only loosly coupled with the
actual calculation of bytes in each bucket.
However, it works very nicely for me! I have only been lightly testing

These tc commands used to work... what''s broken them?
I have a Gentoo Linux (kernel 2.6.11) server. Several months ago, I
made a traffic shaping setup for my box (running a 2.4 kernel then)
that worked beautifully. It gave high priority to SSH and RealAudio
traffic, and put HTTP downloading traffic on a lower prio so they could
only use what bandwidth was left.
However, I''ve only just realized that tc is no longer accepting the
commands I

TC show filter command shows all u32 filters defined with different priority iin all priority.
Hi,
I am currently working on the TC.
I have seen some behaviour which seems to be odd.
I know someone in the mailing list would have seen this problem or may
have some fix for this problem.
When I try to include u32 filters with different priority or pref, I
could see the filters being set on all the priority''s irrespective of
the priority number.
See my sample script below and the

/sbin/tc does not know about HTB
This is my first post to the list so forgive me if this information is
anywhere else.
I''ve been using traffic shaping (cbq) for a while and i''d like to give
htb a shot. I''m running debian woody (stable) with 2.4.24 with htb
enabled. The problem is tc does not know about htb:
# tc qdisc add dev eth2 root handle 1: htb

TC not recognising "mirred" argument
Hi All,
I''m trying to do some traffic shaping with IFB. I have installed Ubuntu
6.0.6 and upgraded to the 2.6.17.7 kernel. I have an ifb0 device.
However, I think I may have the wrong version of TC installed, because
it doesn''t like the ''mirred'' argument.
What version of iproute should I be using, and how can I upgrade it?

IP
Hi!
I''m new here!
I downloaded shorewall because I want to set up a firewall and Webmin already
has a module for it. (I love Webmin!)
When I went to start shorewall I got the message that it needs ip.
I''m running Slackware and apparently ip is not included with it.
Would somone please help me out and let me know where I can download ip from?
Thanks.

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article?
It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For

source code of tc-traffic controller
Hi, I need the source code of tc-traffic controller tool, but due to
being new here, I could not find it. And also I should know whether I
can implement leaky bucket with tc.
I would be grateful, if anybody could help me..

Modems: Cable or DSL digital blunders that lartc may help with.
I have a Cable ''modem'' that has a problem that many of these devices is
bound to have. I was wondering what other lartc user thought about this
and if DSL has simular problems.
Cable, being Asymetrical, is able to upload at a given rate and hopefully
has a buffer, in the modem, of some kind. When I nc(netcat) to a UDP
echo, or discard, server I get about 10Mbps out on my
