traffic shaping , where?
Hi I would want to use the patch for squid released by patrick mcHardy, but it requires that squid is located on the same machine that does traffic shaping. My configuration is different: i have the screening HDSL router directly connected to a multi-ethernet firewall and the proxy located on a DMZ box. i would want the firewall doing traffic shaping. T-1 vs channelised T-1?
OK. Now I show my ignorance. What's the difference between a T-1 and a channelised T-1? I see that Covad's voip service (formerly GoBeam) requires a channelised T-1. Then I read recently on the list that many T-1s being installed are actually HDSL....which would be not a T-1 at all...right? Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist

Centos to use two ISP concurrently..?
Hi all, I'm currently getting my Centos working as a proxy (squid) on a 2 Mb bandwidth plan that's serving 20 users. it's all good though our need for speed is increasing by the day. soon enough i'll be serving up to 60 user, hence the need to get higher bandwidth though here where the problem is. as i'm using HDSL, 2 Mb is the highest plan available. hence, i need

Masq errors?
Hi all, I have a problem with a new Shorewall box I''m trying to migrate from iptables rules to shorewall 2.2.0. I have a 3 interfaces setup: - eth0 ---> internet (ip address) - eth1 ---> remote office (10.0.0.0/8) - eth2 ---> lan (192.168.16.0/24) I''m using a very simple and common setup, with just a few DNAT rules in my /etc/shorewall/rules file, and about twenty

double packet
Hello. I have a pretty strange problem with routing and iptables mark. My firewall has a classic 3 NIC config: one nic connected to the ISP routers, one network for DMZ and the third network for my private network. Here is the schema: HUB HDSL router----+----ADSL router | | HDSL IP---eth0---ADSL IP | | +-------+------+ | | | | | | | | |

Connecting Siemens HiCom PBX with Asterisk through E1
Hi I've bought the Wildcard TE110 some days ago but I'm unable to get it to work with Siemens HiCom 300. I've tried this so far: 1. I've used standard cat5 cable cut off on one edge and twisted wires 1 to 4 and 2 to 3 which is according to cisco a short circuit for E1 lines. Wildcard takes a few seconds and sets the link to green (OK). 2. I've tried to connect our running

Centos as Gateway ? (Router/transparent proxy)
Hi All, I'm lately suffering from Quota abuse at home. believe it or not my teenagers are eating through my allowed quota. Hence, i'm thinking of setting up a centos machine to work as such: HDSL modem(natted to an onboard dhcp service for lan users) -> Centos - > Switch - LAN users Hw specs: 3 GB ram 3.0 core 2 duo 2 X 1 TB HDD 2 X 1 Gb NIC Centos will contain the

Red Alarm TE110P
Hi! I'm trying to setup a Wildcard TE110P with a PRI in The Netherlands. I get a Red Alarm on the line. Is there any way of debugging this? I've tried some configs that should work but without success. Is there any way of telling if the cabling is correct or what else the problem could be? Thanks!! Remco

geo-replication loops
Hi, I was thinking about a common (I hope!) use case of Glusterfs geo-replication. Imagine 3 different facility having their own glusterfs deployment: * central-office * remote-office1 * remote-office2 Every client mount their local glusterfs deployment and write files (i.e.: user A deposit a PDF document on remote-office2), and it get replicated to the central-office glusterfs volume as soon

Fwd: Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones wanted.
So in order to answer the background and backbone questions here is the system as it is. I hope this isn't too much for the list but I'll post it in response to a few inquiries. The current system is quite interesting. We have an office in a town that is about 50 miles from the ski area. The ski area is powered 100% of of generators and the telephone access and internet access goes from

Should I choose DSL @ 1.5 or a full T1?
I'm looking to expand my bandwidth for my Asterisk PBX. Why should I choose a T1 over DSL for my asterisk server? I found someone offering T1's for $290 a month + Loops or 3 Meg for $561 a month + Loops. Is this a good deal? Thanks Bart -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... main adsl fail, backp and test
hi all, I have a firewall with 2 gateways. Router A (main, adsl), router I (backup, isdn). In case of failure of adsl I switch to isdn. How can I know when it is time to go back? Which is a standard way to test the adsl line? TIA sandro -- Sandro Dentella *:-) e-mail: sandro@e-den.it http://www.tksql.org TkSQL Home page - My GPL work

OT: DSL without voice
A lot of people are going for the "VOIP only" approach, but SBC says you have to have an active analog voice circuit before they will sell you DSL. Does anybody know which DSL providers will sell you DSL without making you pay for a voice circuit? Thanks in advance, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Steve Edwards sedwards@sedwards.com

Samba AD member lost domain join after reboot
I put the usermapping but this does not solve the problem. I do not use libpam_winbind and libpam-krb5 because I did not need to log in server using domain accounts, it seems to me that this is not mandatory, you confirm ? Here are the permissions of the file /etc/krb5.keytab: root at smb1:/home/adminlocal# ls -l /etc/krb5.keytab -rw------- 1 root root 2312 Jun 7 14:44 /etc/krb5.keytab Avahi

Hi all, i''m puzzled by a ploblem and I don''t know how to debug it... I have a firewall with 2 gateways, adsl and isdn. Main gateway is via adsl, backup via isdn. I already setup several 2 gateways boxes, with rules too decide which lan should use which gateway. Now I''m stuck with a simpler problem. At home I was just making some experimental setup: * 1 adsl (ppp0) * 1 more tables in rt_tables (200 ping) called "bluff" * table ''bluff *has not* a default route root@fw-eden root # ip ro li table bluff

SNAT (or MASQUERADING) and DNAT question
Hi, The private adresses (192.168.254.0/255.255.255.0) of my network are sent dynamically by dhcp on my network. The dhcp server is on the firewall which address is 192.168.254.1/255.255.255.255 (this address is static). I''ve got a rsync server on this network which is on a separe server. His address is 192.168.254.200/255.255.255.255 (this address is static). I want that the users

load balancing and failover
Hi, A friend of mine has 2 lines of 512kbps terminated in two Linux boxes. He now want to remove those 2 boxes and have some device which will loadbalance the two ISPs and also have a failover arrangement. But he has agreed to give me a chance to do it on Linux for my own satisfication. Is this easy to do with lartc? How do I go about it exactly? I have very less time to do it since his
