QOS Script difficulty on bridge
I''m playing with the rather excellent QOS script from Alexander Clouter at http://digriz.org.uk/jdg-qos-script/ So far I am really impressed with it - a very impressive example of the power of linux QOS rules (has pretty much everything in it from the LARTC Howto!) However, the instructions hint that "for QoS to affect locally generated traffic in a non ethernet bridge setup

how flexible is ingress traffic policing to bandwidth limit?
[I sent this earlier but I guess the list is subscriber-only?] I just set up wondershaper, it has a simple filter on the downstream direction to limit the bandwidth usage: tc qdisc add dev $DEV handle ffff: ingress tc filter add dev $DEV parent ffff: protocol ip prio 50 u32 match ip src \ 0.0.0.0/0 police rate ${DOWNLINK}kbit burst 10k drop flowid :1 This is effective but is there any way to

Traffic shaping: upload should not hurt download
Hello! I have a small home network and I''d like to use traffic shaping because every time someone uploads a file at full speed, my download speed drops to ~10 KB/s. My connection is 768/128 DSL. I found a script at http://www.knowplace.org/shaper/examples.html $TC qdisc add dev $INTERFACE root handle 1: htb default 60 $TC class add dev $INTERFACE parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 116kbit

Sharing bandwidth
Hi there, I''ve got the following problem on my hand..... I''m a sysop for a school in the netherlands. We have a network with 5 different schools (and 1 administration). Each of those have their own ip range in the private network (10.4.0.0 10.5.0.0 and so on). For all these schools we have an internet uplink of 2mbit. And this bandwidth should be shared as fairly as possible.

management of virus and p2p-traffic
Hi I have to manage a network with approx. 200 users, a 256kbit/s unmanaged Internet connection and a 3Mbit/s unreliable managed Internet connection (only http/ftp-proxy and ssh available). All users are in one Class C Subnet with 512 IP-Addresses. 60% of the machines are Windows. The rest are SUN and Linux. At the moment Windows viruses and p2p-traffic eats most of our bandwidth. My Aims are:

Wondershaper in internal network
I''ve gotten wondershaper to work in my linux box, which is part of a 3 computer network that shares the same dsl connection. The linuxbox handles most bulk down and uploading, and the other 2 are mainly for surfing and such. What I need from wiondershaper is that it should perform it''s tasks with all of the traffic to the dsl modem, but do nothing with the internal traffic

Scheduler Mechnisms!
Hello, Normally, in addition to such qdisc scheduler mechanisms as FIFO, PQ, WRR, WFQ, are there any more? Then, there is a confusion on scheduler in Linux enviroment: Assume there is a qdisc, such as RED as a leaf qdisc in a router, we know, if there is packet which want to enqueue the packet, the Function red_enqueue is called, but when the packet leave the queue(when the Function red_dequeue

VoIP Provider
Hi, I am just about to move out from my parents home and think about how I will phone from now on. In Germany there is a provider (QSC) who offers DSL (1024 down/256 up) with fastpath without volume or time limits. Does anybody know a comercial (or even semi-professional) provider who lets me dial out through H323 (or another protocol) and also offers an number where I can be called from

I use SIP over VPN with RR from TWC no problem, connect via WiFi. According to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I am getting 3.5Mbps down and 353Kbps up at this time (6:15pm Saturday). My laptop currently has an X-Lite (free version) softphone with GN Netcom USB professional contact center headsets (GN8110 USB XP adapter). Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into the problem: First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our RoadRunner cable modem. Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.
