QOS Script difficulty on bridge
I''m playing with the rather excellent QOS script from Alexander Clouter at http://digriz.org.uk/jdg-qos-script/ So far I am really impressed with it - a very impressive example of the power of linux QOS rules (has pretty much everything in it from the LARTC Howto!) However, the instructions hint that "for QoS to affect locally generated traffic in a non ethernet bridge setup

Bandwidth Metering
Hi, How do you meter the amount of bandwidth a user has consumed (as webhosting companies do) under linux? I have searched everywhere, but have been unable to find a solution. Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Thanks, Patrick _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO: http://lartc.org/

error message and convergence issues in fitting glmer in package lme4
I'm resending this message because I did not include a subject line in my first posting. Apologies for the inconvenience! Tanja > Hello, > > I'm trying to fit a generalized linear mixed model to estimate diabetes prevalence at US county level. To do this I'm using the glmer() function in package lme4. I can fit relatively simple models (i.e. few covariates) but when

HTB/IMQ troubles (probably)
Hello, I use HTB with linux-2.4.20-ac1 and iptables-1.2.7a (pathced for IMQ). I configured one HTB qdisc on an IMQ device. This qdisc has some classes (about 5) and all of the classes has qdisc pfifo. I sometimes got out from my linux (while I was working) and I found in logs: Dec 4 11:49:27 core kernel: HTB init, kernel part version 3.7 Dec 4 11:49:28 core kernel: HTB: quantum of class

Running text app without X
I'm sure this question comes up waaaay to often in this list, and I apologize if I've missed the obvious answer. I did spend the last two hours looking for a solution and trying various things, but to no avail. I'm trying to run a command-line app (text-only). It's a cross-compiler tool for which we only have Windows binaries. The app works fine, but when I run it (i.e. to

HTB problems
Hello, I have HTB on IMQ device. My rate does not work as I configured. I configured 1920kbit/s and I can download only about 290kbit/s (while it should be the whole bandwidth). My script: /sbin/modprobe imq numdevs=1 /usr/local/sbin/tc qdisc del dev imq0 root 2> /dev/null > /dev/null /usr/local/sbin/tc qdisc del dev imq0 ingress 2> /dev/null > /dev/null /sbin/ifconfig imq0 down

2 Questions on filtering incoming stuff
Two easy questions after having read the LARTC HOWTO document (which by the way is a *fantastic* document. Congratulations to all who contributed!) First is: Can I prioritise my "drops" on incoming traffic when the link is overloaded. ie instead of just tail dropping, can I "prefer" to drop certain classes of traffic? If so, do I do this by setting up, say, a HTB tree

simple dual Internet connection setup not sending return packets on correct interface
I have a very simple setup exactly as described in the HOWTO section " 4.2. Routing for multiple uplinks/providers". One is cable (eth1: dhcp) and the other is PPPoE (ppp0). I used the following commands to configure the routing once all of my interfaces are up and i have configured SNATing for them: ip route add 66.11.173.0/24 dev ppp0 src 66.11.173.224 table 11 ip route add default

Global videoconferencing solution.
Hello everybody, i am searching a solution for a videoconferencing, Any solution (Free/commercial). Asterisk is a great software, but recently we have more and more demands about videoconferencing of 3 or more peoples, Existing solutions are heavy and costly, around 2500? for 1 client. This is insane. Is there any solutions out there for non millionaires ? Or even Free ? I remember a company who

HTB/IMQ with GRE bug
Hi Devik/Patrik, In setting up IMQ/HTB with a GRE Tunnel I''m constantly getting kernel errors: [root@linux /root]# dmesg ... ... ... NET: XXX messages suppressed. Dead loop on virtual device gre1, fix it urgently! ... ... ... This I get only if I''m going to start cross device b/w control. If I remove iptables rule iptables -t mangle -D POSTROUTING -j IMQ then no such warning

HTB + IMQ + IPtables marking.
Folks, I''m so surprised what happened to my box just in the few weeks lately. Here is my setup: INTERNET <----------> [eth0] SHAPER-BOX [eth1] <----------> USER-FARM both eth0 & eth1 got public ips (202.x.x.x) Why traffic monitored at eth0 is bigger than eth1 ? eth1 shaped just exactly the same as rate i defined in HTB. I just have 1024Kbps from my ISP and i defined the

DSCP, ToS and Egress
I''m successfully using HTB + GRED to shape traffic based on the DSCP field. I would like to strip the DSCP and possibly replace it with normal ToS bits on egress traffic leaving my network. Leaving DSCP set is pointless, and could potentially cause problems with some ISPs that use DSCP internally I suppose. Setting ToS bits would seem ideal as most networks still honor it to varying

upload vs download
I have a tc script which splits the bandwidth in 8 leaf classes based on IP filtering. The script looks like this: tc filter add dev $LAN_IFACE protocol ip parent 1:0 prio 1 u32 match ip dst 192.168.0.121 flowid 1:11 The separation works excellent for downloads, but for uploads, it is ignored... Can you tell me how to deal with it? Thanks in advance, Vlad Mihai

Combining ingress and egress ( IMQ+HTB)
I am successfully running ingress (IMQ) and egress (HTB) shaping on a bridge. Is there any way to combine and share the bandwidth between ingress and egress? Example: I have set up www service for egress at 128 KB and ingress at 256 KB. The shaping on them works fine separately. However, I want to create a single virtual pipe for www traffic and limit both ingress and egress combined to 256 KB.

Listening outside ipfw / program interface to ipfw
Hi, Two quick questions that I can't seem to find answers for using google. 1) is is possible to listen outside an ipfw firewall - that is have ethereal record the packets before ipfw starts dropping them? If so how? 2) Is there an api to ipfw that will let me manipulate rules, query stats etc? I need something faster than running the command line binary? Thanks John
