how to guarantee 1/numflows bandwidth to each flow dynamically
I am looking for a simple way to guarantee to each flow going through my traffic control point 1/numflows of bandwidth. I thought using SFQ would do this effectively but it appears to be quite unfair: a very high speed download that fills the pipe easily starves smaller flows to the point where it becomes unusable (especially if they are at all interactive) Because numflows is dynamic,

HTB stalling
Hi Couple months ago I started to have a strange problem with HTB. My setup is Fedora Core 2 + Pentium 2 233 + 128 MB of ram and its serving as a router. For some time since going to kernel 2.6 my HTB QoS Stalls for couple seconds, every couple minutes. If the connection load is bigger the stalling is more frequent and takes longer. I isolated the problem to be with HTB (CBQ works fine). The

Routing by interface as opposed to ip address?
Hello all, Does anyone know of a methodology to build a route based on the inbound and outbound interfaces as opposed to ip addresses? We are essentially trying to forward packets from one interface to another without looking at the ip address. Bridging (brctl, br2684ctl) will not work in this case as the interfaces use different layer 2 encapsulation (e.g., atm0<=>eth0, or

Squid + shaping question
Hi folks, So, I have a pretty simple setup - a linux router machine running as a firewall/router for a small neighborhood LAN (approx 20 machines). I also have squid running on the box in non-transparent mode, and also I have set up NAT for TCP/UDP ports above 1024 for all clients and SSH/POP/SMTP/CVS NAT''d for selected ones based on MAC filtering. No hosts whatsoever can access ports 80

load balancing between two dsl links
Hi, I am connected to two DSL providers (DSL 1 - 1Mbps downlink/384kbps uplink and DSL 2 - 2Mbps downlink/512kpbs uplink) I would like to only allow ftp, pop3 and http via the DSL 1 and only smtp, ipsec and pptp via DSL 2. How can I do so? Can I use iproute to route these protocols? Below is my ip routing: - # DSL 1 ip route add 2.2.2.208/30 dev eth0 src 2.2.2.210 table 1 ip route add

Theory test
Guys Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave someone out. With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management, with my own successes and failures during the past year. Sharing a link between 200

esfq ? or wrr ?
Hi If I have a HTB class with 128kbit, and I want to put "N" users in that class ( in order to share bandwidth fairly ) , which is better for me ? esfq (hash dst) or wrr ? I would attach esfq or wrr to HTB parent class. Also I''ve readed on Jim script that over WRR put a RED qdisc, but I don''t understand it. bests andres

Terrible problem, some men in my net changed their MACs! :/
Is any way to detect changed MAC adresses? Someone taught change MACs peoples in my network and I have problems. E.g. Two computers working on one MAC, and one IP (static ARP and DHCP). WinXP is screaming some message... that two computers or more have the same IP. How can I find out who''s changed MAC?

HTB + IMQ + IPtables marking.
Folks, I''m so surprised what happened to my box just in the few weeks lately. Here is my setup: INTERNET <----------> [eth0] SHAPER-BOX [eth1] <----------> USER-FARM both eth0 & eth1 got public ips (202.x.x.x) Why traffic monitored at eth0 is bigger than eth1 ? eth1 shaped just exactly the same as rate i defined in HTB. I just have 1024Kbps from my ISP and i defined the

Round Robin trafic shapping
I have this problem: I have an Internet line input with variable speed. I have a max speed and a min speed: Vmax and Vmin. The speed is always changing between Vmax and Vmin. I want to share the actual bandwidth (you don''t not how much, you only know the speed is between Vmax and Vmin) for N clients. The bandwidth should be shared so nobody can get more bandwidth than the others.

SEPARATING VOIP AND SURFING
Dear list: I have a problem I cannot handle yet, and need to solve it as soon as possible. Would be very greatful with anybody who can help me. I have a 512/512 link to internet, that I want to share between several computers. I have eth0, with a public IP address, conected to Internet, and also, eth1, with a private IP address, for network with the surfing computers. I have a main class with

Equal bandwidth for any client (i.e. automatic class generation)
Hello, I''m looking how (if) can I solve the following problem using HTB and iproute2: I need to assing the same bandwidth limit to every client, but the problem is that clients will be random - i.e. I know niether number of clients no IP or MAC addresses. If anybody knows FreeBSD''s ipfw2 - I''m looking for something like "ipfw pipe 150 config mask dst-ip 0xffffffff

Leaky bucket in TC
Hi, I am trying to control bandwidths of the connections by using TC with HTB. But I want to implement Leaky Bucket on this structure so as to have a straight flow. Due to being new in this area, could anyone help me how I could do this? Does TC support leaky bucket? Best regards, Fatih Duzova

share bandwith fairly
Dear members, I am trying to share the bandwith for all users fairly. because some users heavily uses p2p programs and a few hosts consume most of bandwith. when we limit each flow it does not work as one client has many connection at same time. Firstly I tried to write a script that use the ipfm(which accounts traffic usage) logs as follow .extract ip addresses heavy bandwith users from

multiple wrr as child of htb
Hi all, Here''s the situation. I have 80 users sharing a internet link of 5Mb link. The users are grouped in /29 ip addr classes so I have 10 classes of users I want to create a root htb, then 10 htb childs each with 0.5Mb bandwidth. The traffic will be directed to each class using tc filters. Now, I want that each of 8 users from each class to share equally the class bandwidth. Can I

Iptables matching on IFB
Hey folks, I stumbled across the Mastershaper project ( http://www.mastershaper.org/ ) but I have a little problem: I wanted to shape the traffic coming from the router itself aswell as coming from the LAN behind the router, for that task I need IMQ, but with IMQ iptables-(layer7)-matching is not possible. Now I''ve talked with the programmer and he said the following: >The problem is

Download and upload independency
Hello everyone: As it is known, when you limit uplink bandwidth it usually gets downlink bandwidth to a lower value. I just want to know what is the optimal configuration for eth1 and imq0 according to some variables of tc(HTB), txqueuelen, mtu, etc. to make these packet flows less independent on an ethernet based network. Thank you in advance. -Diego

Suggestions for a new shaper
Guys Reading through my lartc mail, and thinking on how to tackle my next shaping solution, gave me an idea. I''d like to propose this idea for scrutiny and if it sounds viable I''ll definitely need to start developing in due time. For me in my day to day work with developing network application specifically geared for middle-tier ISP''s, and reading on other peoples
