how can I monitor a (dumb) switch ?
Hello there, Can anyone help me with a problem i have.... I have an ethernet LAN, made over dumb fast-ethernet switches (10/100mbit) without management, so there is no IP for the switches. What I want, if possible, is to find out if a switch is down or not. It''s like with routers... if you want to find out if a router is OK, either you send ICMP directly to the router, or to a host

IMQ slows computer to a crawl
I am attempting to implement IMQ on a 2.4.31 version kernel with iptables 1.3.3. I am following the example at http://www.linuximq.net/usage.html. When I enter the line iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j IMQ --todev1 (eth1 is the external interface), the computer slows to a crawl. OK, the CPU is only an AMD K6 233 which is not the world''s greatest CPU, but egress shaping is

quota-status not working in distributed environment
Hello List Quick overview of our set-up: Postfix / Dovecot (2.2.2.1) / MySQL Cluster on (at the moment) three Servers to create a HA environment where you could easily add additional servers as the demand or load grows. Circular dovecot replication is used so each server uses another one as replication partner and allowing one server to fail. Dovecot Proxy Feature being used, so we can use

ISCSI SAN suggestion
Sorry for the off-topic question but I need advice on a buying a ISCSI SAN for 4-6 servers running CentOS 4.4 .The main purpose for the SAN is to store email accounts (that will be accessed by imap - dovecot) and other documents. Minimal redundancy is required (e.g. dual power supplies, battery backed write cache or mirrored controllers) and price for a 2 TB configuration should be under $ 10000.

AVX Optimizations in Opus
Hello, I had talked earlier with 'Timothy B. Terriberry' <tterribe at xiph.org>, about adding support for AVX instructions in Opus, but since he appears to be busy I would like to resend this on the mailing list. I've created a pull request https://github.com/xiph/opus/pull/5 to add the testing infrastructure for the changes before adding the actual code. A draft for the rest

HTB policing affects shaping performance? Please, help.
This is my simple situation: I want to policy download and shape upload going through my router. It has two interfaces: eth0 (10.4.10.222/24 connected to LAN) and eth1 (172.16.0.1/24 connected to my laptop). Two sets of Heartbeat HTTPD clusters on same subnet
Hi all, I am new to Hearbeat so please be kind :) I also posted this on Linux-HA lists with no responses so I posted it here. I have successfully configure two machines to use heartbeat to cluster httpd. The two nodes are called etk-1 and etk-2. I am trying to configure another two machines to act as a separate cluster (on the same IP subnet). These two nodes are called radu-1 and radu-2.

traffic shaping with NAT: IFB as IMQ replacement?
Hello, Sorry for the many Ccs, but I hope to reach all parties involved. I want to do traffic shaping with NAT and I wanted to do it with IFB instead of IMQ [1]. I tried a lot of things but now I am stuck (and maybe confused). The setup: eth0 eth1 WAN/(Internet) <-> Linux Router <-> LAN Linux router: - does NAT for the LANs - runs local processes

AVX Optimizations
Hello, I'm currently looking to see if Opus could benefit from AVX/AVX2 instructions and I've made some experiments optimizing xcorr_kernel_* function in celt using AVX2 intrinsics and got about 1.5x-1.6x speedup over SSE floating point version in pitch_sse.c. Have AVX optimizations been tried in Opus? Is there someone I could talk to about optimizing compute intensive tasks in Opus using

[PATCH] IMQ vs. local traffic
Hello, Some time ago I''ve read somewhere that local traffic in IMQ could hung up the whole system but it was corrected long time ago. So I was very surprised yesterday when it occurred not true. While testing IMQ I''ve observed for some time that - if you tag some local traffic with iptables both in pre- and postrouting - kernel is hunging up. It is happening quite quick with

IMQ + natin PREROUTING - it is almost 2 years since patch....
Hello there! I was reading this archive: http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2002q3/004725.html It was almost two years ago when Patrick wrote a patch to switch IMQ with nat in PREROUTING chain... From www.linuximq.org I''ve downloaded newset IMQ driver for 2.4.26 and what can i see? The line that Patrick changed in that patch is still as it was in previous relases. Are there

Distribution Diversity at Shorewall.net
Since RedHat announced the discontinuence of RedHat Linux, I''ve been diversifying shorewall.net. The systems here now are as follows: a) Firewall -- Debian testing (Installed using the Sarge online installer). b) File Server -- SuSE 9.0 Professional c) Desktop -- Mandrake 9.0 d) Web/Mail -- RedHat 9.0 I think that I will wait until I can afford to build a new
