Theory test
Guys
Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone
contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great
input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave
someone out.
With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management,
with my own successes and failures during the past year.

Suggestions for a new shaper
Guys
Reading through my lartc mail, and thinking on how to tackle my next
shaping solution, gave me an idea. I''d like to propose this idea for
scrutiny and if it sounds viable I''ll definitely need to start
developing in due time.
For me in my day to day work with developing network application
specifically geared for middle-tier ISP''s, and reading on other

wrr question
Guys
All the recent discussions recently, and the knowledge of a 2.6 port,
of WRR has made me very keen on trying it. I had a look at the docs
and examples know but my mind is not in a very receptive state.
Take this simple example.
Incoming internet connection of 1mbps. Shared between up to 25 users
simultaneously.
I know that WRR can fairly distribute the traffic amongst the

multiple wrr as child of htb
Hi all,
Here''s the situation.
I have 80 users sharing a internet link of 5Mb link.
The users are grouped in /29 ip addr classes so I have 10 classes of users
I want to create a root htb, then 10 htb childs each with 0.5Mb
bandwidth. The traffic will be directed to each class using tc filters.
Now, I want that each of 8 users from each class to share equally the
class bandwidth. Can I

Bandwidth limiting
Since shapecfg is no longer part of the distro what are people using in
place of cbq to limit/throttle bandwidth? I have an ftp mirror that, if
left unchecked, will suck up the entire bandwidth of the CoLo site.
TIA,
Joe

Postfix 2.2.x RPM ETA
Guys
I'm desperately looking for a postfix 2.2.x SRPM. I currently use 2.1.5..
I've found these, http://ftp.wl0.org/yum/postfix/2.2/rhel4/SRPMS.postfix/
Has anyone tried them, or can anyone recommend a proper SRPM for me
for Centos 4.1?
Kind regards

wrr in 2.6.x
Guys
Given the replies and interests lately on the WRR scheduler, and the
shameless promotion of Route Hat (only kidding), my question is
simple. Is there an alternative for the 2.6.x kernels?
>From what I gather WRR is only available for the 2.4 kernels...

Use of qcdisc+htb
Hi folks.
This message may be a bit verbose and not as techie as the ones I''ve
seen in this list, but describing the scenario will save a lot of
messages.
Scenario:
A building with 17 floors, each floor with 24 offices (totals 408
offices) connected to the backbone through a border switch (1 vlan for
each office). The offices can lease bandwidth of 64k, 128k, 256k,
512k, 1M and 2Mbps,

Ok, any comment and feedback will be welcome.
Sorry for my bad english and THANKS in advance.

HOWTO unmaintained?
Hi,
more than a month ago I proposed an addition to the HOWTO to address a
certain packet classification problem/bug and how to fix it (see
http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2005q3/016728.html).
I never received any reaction from the HOWTO maintainers, not even
when addressing them directly (see mail below).
Given that a month has gone by: Is the HOWTO currently unmaintained?

Shaping of pppoe clients
Guys
After reading through the archives I found some insightful ways to be
able to shape traffic to pppoe clients from the server. I have two
questions on the topic of setting up a pppoe server however...
1. The clients will all be connected to each other using a normal
ethernet network, the segments connected with managed switches. The
capacity is roughly 500 nodes. Will these pppoe sessions

Explenation of WRR parameters
Guys
Oppologies for the cross post.
I''ve been scouring the docs coming with the wrr patches and for the
life of me I can''t figure out why there are 8 parameters for each
class.
<snip>
weight1, min1, decr1, incr1,
weight2, min2, decr2, incr2
</snip>
According to the docs these parameters are handled the same way, but
looking at the example scripts there are

Functional Tests misbehaving with Globalize
Howdy all
Apologies to the folks subscribed to the globalize list for dual
posting this message...
I''ve got a project running globalize and rails 1.1.4, and I''ve only
recently adopted a strong love for testing. Now my models are 100%
tested (I must note that I do not make use of any translations in the
database yet), and I''ve now started with functional tests before

Per user bandwidth limiting ..for small ISP.using Squid
Sir,
Kindly excuse me. I am a newbie to LARTC..
I am a small ISP in rural India distributing 1 MB
link to 200 people.
I have been using rshaper by Alessandro Rubini for
shaping.
http://freshmeat.net/projects/rshaper/
My kernel is Linux version 2.4.22-1.2115.nptl( Fedora
Core 1)
Rshaper is very good in controlling incoming bandwidth
(from LAN)
I use Squid also on this Linux Box..

wanted A tool to measure bandwidth....
Hello Everybody,
I have configured a Linux box that does traffic shaping. Its working wonderfully fine, just as expected...Now i want to measure the bandwidth consumed by each of my hosts....But I dont want SNMP to run on all the hosts[as required by MRTG]
I used iptraf on my linux box, but it only measures the bandwidth on interface basis only....
I tried installing traffic-vis, its not working

esfq ? or wrr ?
Hi
If I have a HTB class with 128kbit, and I want to
put "N" users in that class ( in order to share
bandwidth fairly ) ,
which is better for me ? esfq (hash dst) or wrr ?
I would attach esfq or wrr to HTB parent class.
Also I''ve readed on Jim script that over WRR put
a RED qdisc, but I don''t understand it.

WRR and Monitoring/Graphing usage
Hi All,
I''ve just installed WRR and am looking at tools to monitor, graph and display
the system and throughput of each queue/class/filter.
I''ve looked at:
iptraf - only shows tcp/udp flows, not QOS queue throughputs
show.pl - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can tell)
tc-graph.pl - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can tell)
polltc_ - doesnt work with WRR (as far as I can

share bandwith fairly
Dear members,
I am trying to share the bandwith for all users fairly. because some users heavily uses p2p programs and a few hosts consume most of bandwith. when we limit each flow it does not work as one client has many connection at same time.
Firstly I tried to write a script that use
the ipfm(which accounts traffic usage) logs as follow
.extract ip addresses heavy bandwith users from

HTB on large LAN
Hello,
we are using HTB for dividing 15 Mb/s upload rate to 1022 classes (rate
14 kb/s, ceil 15 Mb/s), but sometimes ksoftirqd_CPU0 uses the most of
the CPU-time (over 90% CPU load is casual in such situation). This
situation occurs several times a week and takes minutes or one hour and
during that time it has enormous packet loss. Reboot of the machine
usually solves this problem.
