I do web development outside of work and I have three new projects starting soon from a little brouchureware site to larger applications. I have a personal hosting account with TextDrive that allows me to run 3 domains, this is not going to be big enough to host the apps for my clients. How do other people host Rails sites & apps for their clients? All this talk of VPS solutions etc

Doing a little Googling turns up a fair number of complaints that seem to be centered around server performance, stability and uptime. I moved a rails application to textdrive using their low-cost shared plan. Once on textdrive my app would display ''proxy errors'' periodically. Hitting reload seemed to be all that was needed to get past the proxy error. After discussions with their support people I decided the proxy errors were being caused by apache server restarts -- because there were many of us sharing one

Hi, I was wander if anyone can tell based on self expirience what would be limitations for rails app regard shared hosting. For example on PHP/MySql db driven app on shared hosting can handle 1000 users a day without problems. Hi all, I have deployed my Ruby On Rails application on TextDrive. At first everything seamed to be fine. However, lately, response time of my application is incredible slow. Hi, I''ve just deployed a basic ecommerce site on textdrive.com. The application has been stress tested on our local development machines and appears to be running fine (no memory leaks). However, on textdrive the fcgi processes are being killed after just a few requests apparently because of cpu usage (The log says the processes exceeds 17% average cpu usage in the last few minutes)

Anyone got any tips for running Rails (w/ either webrick or lighttpd/fcgi) on a VPS with a pretty small amount of memory (like 64MB memory and 64MB swap). Thanks, Joe
