Linux router performance
Hi,
I wonder about the performance of a Linux box used as router (I guest I''m
not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m
trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other
routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example,

Hello
I''ve setuped a QOS bridge under debian 3.1 using 2.6.18.3 kernel +
iptables 1.3.6
I''ve patched the kernel an Iptables with esfq+layer7 without problems.
This simple script doesn''t log nothing ... And I''m sure to have eMule
traffic (I''ve checked with tcpdump )
If I remove " -m layer7 --l7proto edonkey \" line I can see

[Bridge] Measuring Bridge Performance (+ebtables/iptables)
Hello,
has anyone done any performance measuring of Linux Bridge + firewalling?
I did search the net for a long time, to find out what would be the best way to measure the
(maximum) performance/throughput. I didn't really come to a conclusion I'm satisfied with.
Nevertheless I did create a small bridged test setup with 4 servers (gbit nics) and a linux bridge
(2 x 100 mbit nic), all on

Buggy SATA detection w/CentOS5 + Intel H6300ESB?
I've been handed a Supermicro system that is using the Intel? H6300ESB
Serial ATA Controller (Supermicro P4SCI motherboard). When I install
CentOS5, everything seems to work OK, but it has absolutely horrid disk
performance. Upon further inspection, it seems that the SATA disks are
being treated as legacy IDE devices using PIO. Gah....
Has anyone else had this problem? I recall having

Must be a better way to collate sequenced data
I have data that looks like this
time_stamp (seconds) user_id
The data is (partial) ordered by time - in that sometimes transactions occur at the same timestamp. The output I want is collated by transaction time on a per user basis, normalized by the maximum number of transactions per user, and aggregated over each day. So, if the users have 50 transactions in the first day and 20 transactions

Slow uploading with sftp
Hi,
I'm observing a nasty and strange behaviour with OpenSSH
(SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.7.1p2) on Solaris 8 (Sparc). I searched the FAQ and
list archive and I didn't find anything about it.
The problem is that uploading through sftp is tremendously slow (~
0.2KB/s) while downloading is ok (~ 200-300 KB/s), so I'm quite surprised.
The machines I tested (client & server) are all in the

HP-UX PAM with Trusted System patch
I'm fairly new to the list and new to submitting patches. Can someone
please verify the attached patch for running a HP-UX Trusted System with
PAM and OpenSSH 3.4p1? The problem seemed to be that pam couldn't verify
the user via __pamh after the call to permanently_set_uid in session.c.
So I called do_pam_session prior to the call and added a function
do_pam_set_tty in order to set the

sha1 or md5?
I''m building a site that requires user log-in and i have seen the Agile
book using sha1 for password hashing while R-Forum uses md5.
Is there any compelling argument to use one over the other?

Audio problems on cable modem link
We have a small office installation running over a cable modem. (8M down, 500k up confirmed with numerous speed test sites)
When a single call is up, call quality is fine. When a second call is up, outbound audio is immediately choppy. We're using ulaw, and confirmed that traffic with 2 calls is <175kbps in/out. (IAX connection out)
Asterisk doesn't report any dropped frames, the

Handle of "subscription" file/folder for IMAP
Hi,
Ok you're right about it, let me simplify it.
There's some files in the Maildir, that are from dovecot, like the
dovecot.sieve, subscriptions, and these are files, but here are shown an
being folders to be subcribed.
Question was if it is possible to deny the show of this info in IMAP
globally.
If I subscribe, for example to "subscriptions", it created the folder,

Two u32 problems: module count and fw
Hi All,
I found 2 unusual behavior with u32 classifier in Kernel 2.4.12. Ive u32
compiled as module.
1> u32 filter seems not working if there is already some fw filter used for
some other class. In order to get u32 working Ive to delete root class,
which in terms delete all fw filters too, and then same command for u32
works. fw is also compiled as module.
