Rsync 3.0.0pre1 released
I've just released rsync 3.0.0pre1, the first pre-release version for the upcoming 3.0.0 release. The version number is getting such a large bump due to the addition of an incremental recursion scan (which helps a lot with large transfers) and the official arrival of several other new features, including ACL support, extended attribute support, file- name character-set conversion, etc.

non-recursive remote listing breakage in 3.0.0pre1
It would appear something snuck in that breaks non-recursive remote listings when talking to a non-3.0.0pre1 version of rsync. The symptom itself is simple enough to see; rather than displaying member directories/regular files/symlinks/etc as one would expect, only non-directories (with the exception of '.') are listed. Other tidbits.. some obvious, some maybe not: - not limited to just

--detect-renamed question
I've started testing the detect-renamed patch with 2.6.9 and soon 3.0.0pre1. I have an unique situation where I'm rsync'ing to a HSM based filesystem. I've found that the detect-renamed patch works but it appears to do a copy of the file to the new destination. This is particular slow since the file in the HSM based filesystem may only be a stub and all the data is only resident

Solaris, Samba-3.0.1pre1 Compile error
Hello all, I currently run Samba 3.0 on a Solaris 9 machine in a production environment. I'm happy with it. I tried compiling samba-3.0.1pre1 using ./configure --with-ldap=no. However when it gets to linking bin/tdbbackup it fails. This is the error it gives: Using FLAGS = -O -I./popt -Iinclude -I/scratch/build/samba-3.0.1pre1/source/include

Fixed: 3.0.1pre1 broke my 'valid users' on one share
Setting 'winbind use default domain = no' and adjusting my share access to use the DOMAIN+ prefix fixed the problem. There must be some portions of samba which are not friendly with this option, yet. The main reason why I like this option being, when ADS user's login to my server via ssh they can use the username alone, instead of prepending 'DOMAIN+' -----Original

3.0.1pre1 broke my 'valid users' on one share
Before updating to 3.0.1pre1, the following smb.conf worked. Now when users try to hit the [broke] share they are denied access. Winbind has no problem finding the users and groups for the domain. I've verified filesystem permissions, "Domain Users" have full RW access. I do not seeing anything coming across my smbd log files. [global] security = DOMAIN workgroup = xxx

Samba 3.0.1Pre1 and windows 2000, domain problem
Hi, I'm using samba-3.0.1pre1-1 (rpm) and I'm trying to make it as a PDC. Using WindowsXP Pro I'm able to join the domain I've made in samba. The problem is that when I try to join the domain using a Win2000 I'm able to join the domain using 'Network Identification->Properties' , but when I try to add a user in control-panel from the domain I got

3.0.1pre1 PDC and Win2K joining Domain
Hi All- When I tried to join a Windows 2K workstation to my Samba 3.0 + LDAP PDC, I was getting the error: 'No mapping between account names and security IDs was done'. After scouring the mailing list, I found out that I wasn't the only one with the problem, but it seems like nobody ever got an answer (publicly, at least). With all the configuration changes and tweaks to my

[patch] Samba 3.0.1pre1 : unable to link tdbbackup on Solaris 9
Hi to all, On Solaris 9 (and below I think), Samba 3.0.1pre1's tdbbackup now needs snprintf which is not included in Solaris. The following patch on master Makefile.in (~samba/source) should ease the compilation of tdbbackup : diff -u Makefile.in.orig Makefile.in --- Makefile.in.orig Mon Oct 20 11:06:54 2003 +++ Makefile.in Mon Oct 20 11:07:09 2003 @@ -629,7 +629,7 @@

Samba-3.0.1pre1 and LDAP
Hiya, I have recently upgrade samba to 3.0.1pre1 from alpha3-19. The upgrade went well with no real problems, except ..... I have noticed today that the load on the LDAP server is extremely high. CPU usage on slapd is anywhere between 10%-80%. At one point to day everything came to a grinding halt. The only difference between I can think of is the samba upgrade. This is with an average load of

Samba 3.0.1pre1 winbind / getent problems
Hi, I've got some problems with winbind and ADS Domain Membership stuff. I've joined the domain without problems with "kinit admin@MY.DOMAIN" and "net ads join", i can see the machine account in AD with ldapbrowser. Klist give me three tickets, as say in the documentation, OK. I created the idmap entry in my openldap (with samba3 schema), OK. I've set the ldap

rsync man pages, rsync faqs, problem with RSYNC_PASSWORD and --password-file
Hi all, This isn't a bug, its just a lapse in the documentation. I just got a script going that repeats every 5 seconds, that uses rsync to send data from A, running Ubuntu V6.06.1, to B, running cygwin. I got stuck on the issue of preventing the password prompt from interrupting the script. The problem is that the man pages are misleading, they suggest that RSYNC_PASSWORD and
