Can I copy my .wine??
I tried doing scp between two machines on my LAN. It whizzed along at great speed for a long time, mostly displaying messages over and over saying either something about permission (denied, I presume), or else about too many levels of symlinks. What I use it for is GPS/map software -- legacy proprietary stuff from Garmin and Maptech, to which I have added a lot of personal data collected

resizing multiple images using getElementsByClassName
I am building a iPhoto like (Read rip-off) interface for thumbnails and I am having a couple problems that I thought some one on the list might be able to assist me on ... first off here is the page: http://v4.incontrolsolutions.com/galltest/ I am no Javascript whizz and I am sure there is a FAR more efficient way to do what I am trying. Having said that, the 2 things I was looking for

Getting Picasa to view files in OSX
Hi all, I have installed Picasa on OSX 10.4 but I cannot navigate to the folders I store my photos in to get it to monitor them. Any ideas how I do this? Apologies if this isn't the right way to post or if it's not an appropriate topic - I have only delved into Wine because I really want to use Picasa instead of iPhoto. Many thanks, Sean Send instant messages to your online friends

Bugg when using Extended Attributes flag -X
Hello, I found that using rsync on OS X can give some problems when it comes to Extended Attributes (-X flag). The server I use has Ubuntu with the filesystem XFS and I am trying to backup a OS X system to it. The problem is as far as I understand it that Linux Kernel has a liming on 64k f?r Extended Attributes and OS X don?t have this limit. Some error output. rsync: rsync_xal_set:

map destination files files based on meta data
I am in the process of designing a photo synchronization application - basically I want to be able to copy all of the images captured throughout my home's infrastructure to a central repository. The problem that I foresee is that there may be collisions between filenames between the various computers where my family members sync their photos, movies, etc. So doing a simple rsync won't

Free Slideshow Maker Comparison and Brief Tutorial
People are fond of free things, maybe more obviously during recession days. Not you? Well, you could still get through this article to know about how to create slideshow for free with slideshow making software. None of them would cost you a penny. Actually they probably exist in your computer system. So, just locate and run to start slideshow making, at least to kill boring time or relive

graphics rendering
Hey Has anyone got a graphics server running alongside ruby on rails? Kind of new to graphics rendering on a web server, so some general tips on a successful direction to go in would be great. I need it for automatic rescaling of images, similar to flickr. Thanks, RGC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Rails on a Mac - I''ve seen the light
Well I finally broke down and got me one of those Intel iMacs and a copy of Textmate. It took me a bit to get use to Textmate but once I learned some of the shortcuts I was cruising. Mac OS X took very little time to get used to as I already had a decent *nix background. Up until this point I had been primarily on Windows. Some of the productivity highlights I''ve found: 1. Feedback on XML metadata namespace
Daniel, before you step over everything that has been done before, we need to determine what exactly is the use case for your new specification. What concerns metadata, we currently have: * vorbiscomment - this is a header at the beginning of a logical bitstream which has metadata that refers to the complete file; there is a specification, which has been public for a long time and is the

Best Linux distibution for ruby on rails developement?
Hi, I am on Kanotix linux since the first distribution was released by Kano. However I am tired of the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong on Kanotix" pattern. Please recommend a distribution that by your experience is best for ruby on rails development and need no hour-long tweacks for even "simple" tasks. Thanks, Jan Martin -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

The use for an XML based metadata format
Daniel, these are all good ideas and worth progressing. However, it may be better not to merge too many goals in one format (MPEG-7 did that and ended up as a big mess). So, I suggest to start by structuring the types of things you want - then finding out which parts belong where into existing formats such as vorbis comment, Skeleton and CMML, and only then start to develop a new format. Short answer: The format should describe media content and relation between them in an Ogg stream. Intended usage is media management and sorting trough search and media manager software. Long

Hi Silvia, I really have to ask you: Have you even tried to describe media using the excising solutions? I don't mean adding subtitles and editing stuff. I mean really say what a Ogg file contins. There is no working wheels for this. Vorbis comments--used in FLAC too--can describe content with a very limited field names (and badly enforced standards). I said from the start that I have no

Unable to mount SMB shares under Mac OS 10.6.5
Help - (I'm new to the list, so please be gentle) I've tried Seagate support, and Apple Forums with no resolution or adequate suggestions for troubleshooting/resolving this issue, so I thought I'd try the samba community. It's a bit esoteric for me/most Mac users (SMB shares under Max OS X), but I thought I'd give it a try. I can no longer mount any shares from my Seagate

Mac R spinning wheel with Package Manager (PR#14005)
Full_Name: James Howison Version: 2.9.2 OS: Mac OS X 10.5.8 Submission from: (NULL) (128.2.222.163) For quite a while now I have been unable to use Package Manager to install programs. I get the spinning wheel and long lock ups. This happens when I hit, "get list", but that eventually returns, seemingly successfully. However it also happens when I try to install a package, the whole
