Some handy methods - perhaps cool enough to be committed some time
Hi. Some time ago I posted some prototype-"extensions", which could come in handy. I''ve been updating them a bit and added a few more and I think its time to share it again. Feel free to use it. The code should be rather self explaining, but heres a quickguide. - new Geometry.Size(width,height) - Creates a new instance of size - new Geometry.Position(x,y) - Creates a new

Prototype: Position.clone()
Does the duplicate clone method of Position serve a subtle purpose that I don''t understand? I feel kind of foolish even asking, but ... I just don''t get it. I''ve been looking at this for a couple days now and as far as I can tell, the first definition is useless as it gets overlaid by the second one. I don''t see any closure trickery going on here, either.

getWidth(), getHeight(), and getDimensions() in IE6
I''m getting an "Object doesn''t support this property or method" when calling $(element).getWidth() in IE6. I dont see any note of this method not working in IE so I''m confused. Can someone help please? Nate --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails:

Element.addMethods functions swallowing exceptions (IE6 + 7)
IE6 and IE7 are not correctly handling the ''throw'' command for functions attached to Element via Element.addMethods. Firefox and Safari are fine. See the example below. For IE6: functions called with no attributes (ie: funcName()) correctly handle thrown errors. Funcions called with attributes (ie: funcName("foo")) will respond to the throw command and pass execution

Upgrade server to run on Rails 2.3.2/F11
Note that one of the 8 patches (#6) will be sent separately in reply to this email, as some of the replaced lines are too long, so git won't let me send the email. However, there is nothing wrong with that patch, and it should be applied in the sequence listed below. Note also that I assume this will be tested on a clean f11 install, rather than an upgrade of an existing ovirt server

Adding my own extensions with Elements.addMethods()
When I add my own extensions to DOM elements, is there a way to only add my extensions to the specific types of DOM elements (e.g. SELECT) to which my extensions apply or are intended to operate? Based on the Prototype API documentation (http://prototypejs.org/learn/ extensions), it appears that anytime I extend an element, all the extensions (Prototype''s and my own) are copied to that

Element.addMethods() is not a function after upgrade to 1.7.0
After upgrading to prototype 1.5.0 and scriptaculous 1.7.0 my autocompleter.local died... firebug reports that effects.js is to blame calling Element.addMethods(); I can not find out why cause as far as I can see it does exist in prototype.js. Any pointers anyone :( --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups

dragdrop library
Thomas, Special thanks for the dragdrop library. I consider your javascript abilities quite superior to my own, in fact I''m just setting out on a quest to master javascript, I found your library the other night and started hacking away on my app. I replaced a dom-drag.js library I was using before with yours since it integrated with prototype better, and appears to be better coded.

[PATCH server] Update app to work with rails 2.3.2
Note that this does not fix gettext for app, that will be done separately in another patch as F10/F11 require different setups for that. In the meantime gettext works if manually changed in environment.rb to gettext_rails instead of gettext/rails Signed-off-by: Jason Guiditta <jason.guiditt at gmail.com> --- src/app/controllers/application.rb | 200 --------

I''m writing some code to subset a table based on the contents of particular columns. My event handler starts off like this: subsetChange: function(e) { var subset = $F(''subsetSelector''); var rows = $$(''.content-row''); rows.each(function(row) { var value = row.down(''.Platform_Category'').childNodes[0].data;

cumulativeOffset problem with dynamically loaded elements
I have a page where I am replacing a table element after the page has loaded. I get an error (on ie 6) when prototype.js calls cumulativeOffset. For the new table element, requesting the element.offsetParent property results in an "unspecified error" that brings my whole page to a crashing halt. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Cathy -------------- next part

Tabulation with ENTER key
Dear all, I think this can be interesting for others too. For a while I tried to solve that problem - how to tabulate with ENTER/RETURN key too and not only with TAB. You know the problem - you are entering a lot of numbers from numeric keypad but you need to go far left to press TAB. This prevents one-hand data entry and prohibits web apps to be used by accountants, for instance. Here is a

Unspecified error in prototype.js
Hi, 1. I have 2 panes, each having approximately 45-50 slides, all the slide images are 110x82 pixels in size, enclosed in their respective div''s. 2. These divs are further enclosed in a parent div, which is defined as a Sortable on page load. 3. There is a destination div on the RHS also. Sortable.create("div_leftDiv", {ghosting:true, revert: true, dropOnEmpty:true,

prototype/script.aculo.us ecosystem
Recently errtheblog (http://errtheblog.com/) put up a nice post about jQuery. Putting aside all the assertions about cleaner code and fewer lines of code than with Prototype, the one thing that struck me from his (and others'') writing and from direct inspection is this: jQuery seems to have a more of an ecosystem surrounding it. That is, more plugins, widgets, locked-and-loaded

Extending DOM elements addressed by "this"
I have a function that needs to be attached to a bunch of text fields when the page loads. I would like to use the Prototype methods that are added to DOM elements by using the $() function, but I in the function it refers to things with "this". For example, this.style.borderColor. Is there a way to extend elements from the kind of scope I am looking at? For example, is there a way to
