RE: How to log and block specific application a ctivity
Have read the comments about Shorewall not being a personal
firewall, etc., and am not necessarily advocating such use,
but, trying to get into the poster''s head, and doing some
creative thinking, thought that possibly some form of EGID
rule might help out if there is a reasonable reason behind
the question. It is not hard for me to see how something
like this could be useful.

IPP2P & Marking Connections
I have two (interconnected) questions:
First of all, I''m trying to use IPP2P to classify my P2P traffic and give it
a lower network priority. I''ve already successfully built IPP2P into
iptables and the kernel. I read http://www.shorewall.net/IPP2P.html, but
it''s confusing me. Using the documentation for normal tcrules in 3.0

Shorewall blocks LISa on port 7741
Hello, all.
I''ve been trying to get shorewall to get LISa working on my Gentoo box. It
works as long as I have shorewall turned off, but whenever I turn it on, it
seems to block all LISa activity. I have TCP port 7741 opened (as per
lisa-home.sourceforge.net), and nmap says it''s open. Ethereal indicates that
LISa is communicating via TCP port 7741, from 127.0.0.1 to

Traffic Shaping and Bridge
Hi All,
I''m using Shorewall 3.0.4 and I''m wondering if it is possible to do
traffic shapping on only one interface from a bridge.
The firewall has got 3 NIC, eth0, eth1, eth2.
eth0 and eth2 are bridged, but if I''m right, when you specify a traffic
rate for a link, you do it for the interface. In my case, eth0 and eth2
do not appear in the interface file, but it is

Using torrent in tcrules
Hi all,
I''m trying to set up traffic shaping and I''m having some difficulty.
Here is what I want, and where I am.
1. HTTP and SMTP traffic needs to be priority 1.
2. All other traffic priority 2
3. Torrent traffic priority 3.
My distro is Fedora Core 4, and the torrent protocol does not appear
in /etc/protocols. The only protocol is TCP, which HTTP and SMTP is
built on top

RE: [Xen-ia64-devel] New error trying to create a domain(usinglatestxend-unstable
Hi Keir,
The CS# 17131 which I write for bind guest to NUMA node via cpu affinity
missed one condition existing in some machines, where there aren''t any
cpus but only memories. Under this condition it will fail to set
cpu_affinity because of none parameter. I cope with this condition in
the new patch and make a little change of the methods to find suitable
node to bind guest. When

Splunk Module Development Recommendations
Good morning,
We''ve been testing PE and beginning developing modules for our
infrastructure. One of the modules I''m looking to create is an installation
for Splunk, with the primary focus at this time, on the Forwarder. I
already have the splunkforwarder-5.0.1-143156-linux-2.6-amd64.deb package
being fetched from the Master and also performing the installation via
dpkg. I

[IR question] Switching on pointers
Thanks everyone for your answers.
Mats, my goal is do an alternate implementation of the subtyping test
in the Pony compiler. I'll try to keep the explanation short to avoid
cluttering the mail with irrelevant information.
Every object in Pony has a type descriptor, which is used in the
subtyping test to determine the real type of an object. The current
algorithm is suboptimal and

possible bug using -q -m -M combination?
Hello,
I've used oggenc with these options before:
$ oggenc -q3.0 -m 96 -M 225 somemusic.wav
But it's now encoding everything at 1.0kbps. The compression is *awesome*
but the found quality is somewhat lacking. Has something changed
recently, or am on crack (again)?
Cheers,
Geoff
Ps. I put the above example in the ifp-driver mailing list FAQ.. but now
I don't look so smart..

Is it possible to stop ARP broadcast with Bridge shorewall ?
Dear shorewall list enthusiasts,
I recently set up a dedicated linux box running shorewall
in order to isolate my network from the "evil other side" :)
It works so well that I first have to thank and congratulate
everybody that took part in this project !
Then, I have a question, that separates my setup from "wonderful"
to "heaven" : I activated the

[Patch] Support embedded systems better
Hi,
I am one of the developers of the FreeWRT project and I want to give
you some feedback. Shorewall runs quite fine on our supported devices,
but we need to patch Shorewall to get it
running as expected. The problem is the ip command and busybox 1.4.2.
Some words about busybox:
BusyBox is a multi-call binary that combines many common Unix
utilities into a single executable.

Monthly traffic limit
Hi Shorewall Users :)
I have found shorewall firewall and seems to be interesting.
I need to setup a configuration my my network users because i only have 50gb
of traffic per month.
I want to know if the shorewall can make a 48gb per month limit, but
everyday from 1:30 PM do 8:30 AM (happy hour ) the traffic doesnt count.
Can shorewall do that ?

Web log viewer
Hi.
What system or software are you using to show the iptables log files
(for example the dropped packages tagged as LOG in the Shorewall
rules)?
Thank you very much!
Bye.
