XL toolstack and drbd
Hej folks,
I''m messing around with DRBD once again but with a new Xen 4.1.2 installation
using the XL toolstack instead of the xend daemon.
However, after getting my DRBD installed and a device operational, trying to create
a domU using the drbd block device doesn''t want to work:
xl create -c test.cfg
Parsing config file test.cfg
Unknown disk type: drbd
My config has:

When using xl toolstack stuff left in xenstore at /local/domain/0/backend
Hello,
After creating and destroying a number of domUs, I noticed
that /local/domain/0/backend starts to get cluttered when using XL. The
vif, vfb, vkbd, and vbd sections look like this:
270 = ""
271 = ""
272 = ""
273 = ""
274 = ""
275 = ""
Where the dom ID is set to an empty value, however the console

Bug#727100: domain doesn't reboot with xl toolstack
Package: xen-utils-4.1
Version: 4.1.4-3+deb7u1
Severity: important
Tags: security patch
When you use xl toolstack, you can't reboot domUs.
When you switch back to xm toolstack, than reboot works again.
I think the problem with the debian packaged version is the same as in
this thread:
http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2011-09/msg01289.html
I also think it's a security issue,

xl and vifname
Hello,
While using xen 4.1-testing.hg (r23202) I noticed that the ''vifname''
config value is not handled by xl, but is handled by xm. Is there a
workaround or patch for this? My firewall and scripts depend on static
vifnames.
XM works good - it adds multiple interfaces to multiple bridges and
configures them appropriately. But with xl it differs -- here only tap

xendomains and xl toolstack question
Hello all
I''ve just installed xen 4.1.1 on my server and was tryoing to tweak
xendomains script to work with new xl schema but I canĀ“t get it to save
domains. It does start them with some changes I made to it but when I issue
service xendomains stop I just get [ OK ] but domains stay running.
Has xendomains script been ported to work with 4.1.1 or is there another
alternative to it.

How to auto-start Guests when using 'xl' toolstack? 'old' configs in /etc/xen/auto/ are ignored without xend service active.
I''ve migrated my Dom0 host to Xen 4.2.0 + xl toolstack.
With ''xm'' toolstack, configs in /etc/xen/auto are autostarted, assuming
xend/xendomains services are started.
IIUC, when using xl toolstack, those services are not to be started;
and, afaict, the installation process for 4.2 has them disabled by
default.
Now, the configs in /etc/xen/auto are simply ignored. I

Bug#677244: xen-utils-common: xen-toolstack fails if either `xm` or `xl` is not found in xen-dir
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.1.2-7
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable
Dear Maintainer,
The script /usr/lib/xen-common/bin/xen-toolstack improperly aborts if *either*
`xm` or `xl` cannot be found in the xen-dir (/usr/lib/xen-4.0/bin). This means
that a default installation (e.g. following Debian wiki on the subject, namely
installing xen-linux-system and

xl - no support for DRBD disks?
I tried to create a domain with drbd based disk as the backend
"drbd:<resourcename>,..," and I get a "unknown disk type" error.
I can spin out a patch if needed, but just wanted to know apriori if
this was left out for any specific reason.

BLKTAP
I noticed recently that there is no real easy way to get the kernel driver
for blktap working in mainline. I''ve pulled down the source from Daniel
Stodden''s linux git tree on xensource, but it looks like it''s for debian and
I''m running Fedora 14, so I''m trying to sort it out. I run the 3.1.x kernel
and don''t want to go back to the 2.6.32 that

Examples for using xl migrate -s ?
Hi,
I must find a way around the way live migration now uses ssh. I tested
it and I see high cpu usage by SSH and overall sense of things being
slow.
My prod systems have a dedicated, fast link for live migration, but
with ssh it would be crippled down to a <1Gbit.
Does anyone have a working example of how to not use SSH as the transport layer?
I guess this is what the -s option is for, but I

index IO patterns
Hey all, we're in the process of checking out alternatives to our index storage. We're currently storing indexes on a NetApp Metrocluster which works fine, but is very expensive. We're planning a few different setups and doing some actual performance tests on them.
Does anyone know some of the IO patterns of the indexes? For instance:
- mostly random reads or linear reads/writes?

ERROR: Toolstack not specifed and nothing detected, bailing out!
I have just installed Xen by following http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_Beginners_Guide
All in all pretty good, however it mentions using the xl toolset but when I first installed only the xm toolset would work. This was great for creating linux based domains but it gave me an error about hvm when I tried creating a Windows domain.
I then apt-get install xen-tools-common and edited /etc/default/xen

Does anyone run win7 or winxp with xl toolstack?
Hello, everybody!
Does anyone have experience of running win7/winxp with xl?
As for me, I got HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED BSOD on win7 booting and
guest hanging in case of winxp.
When i run these guests (with the same configs) with xm, everything is
ok. The guests boot perfectly.
Did anyone run into it too?
I use the lattest xen-unstable, but i saw the problem several months ago
too.

any recent experience combining GlusterFS w/ Xen?
Hi Folks,
Anybody have any recent experience building a small cluster that
combines GlusterFS and Xen (with bonus points for a Debian environment)?
We''re getting ready to shift from a 2-node Xen/Pacemaker/DRBD
environment to a 4-node environment - and I''d really like to be able to
create/migrate/failover/delete VMs transparently across all 4 nodes.
Seems like Gluster might

[Xen-users] Why the need for "-f" with XL in Xen 4.2 rev-25467
Just out of annoyance more than curiosity, but ever since I started
using Xen 4.2-unstable rev-25467, every time I try to run "sudo xl
create <domu_config_file>", or "sudo xl reboot", or "sudo xl destroy",
it always gives me this message:
"*xend is running, which prevents xl from working correctly.
If you still want to force the execution of xl please

How to use xl (in place of xm) with libvirt 1.0.2 and Xen 4.2.1 in Ubuntu 13.04?
QUESTION: What, if anything, can I do so that I can use xl (in place of
xm) with libvirt 1.0.2 and Xen 4.2.1 in Ubuntu 13.04?
BACKGROUND: I am testing a fully updated (as of March 27) installation of
Ubuntu 13.04 that includes the following packages:
libvirt - version 1.0.2-0ubuntu9
xen-hypervisor-4.2-amd64 - version 4.2.1-0ubuntu1
Upon setting TOOLSTACK=xm in /etc/default/xen (as well as
