R, AMD Opteron 64, and Rmpi
Dear All, I found Andy Liaw's suggestion about using a NUMA (instead of SMP) kernel when running R on amd64 with > 1 CPU http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/35109.html A couple of questions: 1. Is this still the case with the newer dual-core opterons (e.g., the 275 et al., families) running Linux (kernel 2.6)? 2. How does this affect using Rmpi (and snow, papply, et al.)

Slow (RAM?) performance using Xen (3.2.3) kernel -- dual AMD Opteron (h2000m)
Greetings, I have 3 SLES 10 SP3 servers running Xen (3.2.3). The motherboard is a Tyan S3992 h2000M and I have dual quad-core AMD Opterons wit 8GiB RAM. The board''s BIOS is up to date. When I boot the Xen kernel, memory performance seems very slow: $ time memhog 100m mbind: Function not implemented get_mempolicy: Function not implemented .......... real 0m1.117s user 0m0.148s sys

AMD Opteron 1218 wrong CPU metrics in 6.3
Hello all, since upgrade to 6.3 (and kernel 2.6.32-279.x) it looks like only one core of the AMD Dualcore Opteron 1218 is functional. Reverting to previous kernel shows everything working as expected. I've filed a bug report here after failing to figure out if it is just a configuration problem: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5821 I can't find anything on the net that would

Asterisk on Solaris 10 (AMD Opteron, Sun Fire X2100)
Hello, world! I'm considering running Asterisk 1.2.4 on Solaris 10 on a Sun Fire X2100 server or two (Opteron CPU, nForce 4 chipset), and apparently this works. I've read that the Zaptel package won't work on anything other than Linux, since it's intended to hook into the Linux kernel in the form of a kernel module. This concerns me, since I've read that ztdummy, the

Fwd: Asterisk on Solaris 10 (AMD Opteron, Sun Fire X2100)
Hello all, I really appreciate the replies I've gotten about this so far (especially the support for wanting to run it on Solaris!). The core issue seems to have been missed, though -- is there any way to run a complete Asterisk solution on Solaris 10 (including music-on-hold and conferencing)? This probably comes down to a few issues: - Is ztdummy (a component of Zaptel) *really*

Opteron in 32-bit mode
I'm spec-ing a development server for some Haskell hackers. In particular, they need to be able to build and run the Glasgow Haskell Compiler (ghc), the x86_64 port of which isn't quite there yet. My current thought is to get an Opteron-based system, but load it (initially, at least) with the 32-bit i386 version of CentOS. That buys me near-term ghc compatibility. In the future,

Dell R515 with PERC H700 - JBOD?
Hello, I'm curiuos if anyone knows if it's possible to set up a Dell R515 (which has PERC H700) to be JBOD. It seems the only options are RAID0 or RAID1. I read posts, where people say it can by done by making each disk its own RAID0.? This works, but it wigs out when that disk is removed, and forgets a disk was ever there (unless I go back in the PERC and fix it). My plan is to have a

gluster client performance
Hi- I'm new to Gluster, but am trying to get it set up on a new compute cluster we're building. We picked Gluster for one of our cluster file systems (we're also using Lustre for fast scratch space), but the Gluster performance has been so bad that I think maybe we have a configuration problem -- perhaps we're missing a tuning parameter that would help, but I can't find

Raid / dual Opteron power issues
Hi All, I've just started caring for a dual Opteron machine. It has a 3Ware 9500S-12 RAID controller, a Tyan S2882G3NR motherboard, 10 IBM 400GB disk drives, and a 650 watt power supply. It has been behaving itself quite nicely until recently. The poor behavior started when I upgraded the OS from CentOS 4.1 (32 bit) to Centos 4.1 (x86_64). When running in uniprocessor mode, the system
