Odd behavior on Phenom II X6
I built a new box for home use, it is an ASUS M5A99X EVO 990X, the CPU

I am using a USB DVD drive to do the install
When I attempt to install either a generic CentOS install, it gives a

Disk IO tuning
I am using XenServer6, and I need to get performance equal or close to what
we get on the hardware, especially with large files.
Are there any hints host side or guest side to increase performance. What
should I look at?

How to Install XCP 1.5 beta
I would like to install XCP. So I started at
http://www.xen.org/products/index.html
and found the section labeled
''Xen Cloud Platform Project''
This section was a nice overview but no
links to docs or downloads.
The next section was labeled ''USERS''
which had a download link to

Well, I explicitly don't want to do that, since it uses even more
resources than OS X by itself. Having linux run on the bare metal
without OS X should be much more efficient.

Hi all,
I recently got a brand new MacBook Pro, replacing one that is over 5.5
years old. I'm trying to think of something to do with the old laptop,
and one idea I had was to put CentOS on it. After some initial
struggles, I finally found this page, which tells how to tell the
installer to find hfsplus-utils:

Then I got to the point of configuring

OT: iBook or MacBook Pro?
Well, the worm has turned and I think I may actually get an Apple ;P.
But I can''t decide which one. Pros and cons:
14" iBook:
+ modem (for when broadband kicks out, or on the road and there''s no
WIFI)
+ screen is probably big enough (though I currently have a 15" Dell)
+ doesn''t get as hot as the MacBook
+ almost half the cost
+ less likely to get stolen

[PATCH v5 00/12] Enable GPU switching on pre-retina MacBook Pro
Enable GPU switching on the pre-retina MacBook Pro (2008 - 2013), v5.
The main obstacle on these machines is that the panel mode in VBIOS
is bogus. Fortunately gmux can switch DDC independently from the
display, thereby allowing the inactive GPU to probe the panel's EDID.
In short, vga_switcheroo and apple-gmux are amended with hooks to
switch DDC, DRM core is amended with a

XCP GUI management
Xen List
After planning for a year to move my Xen 3.4 classrooms to XCP I''m now
making an effort. With the old system I wrote many lines of bash scripts
around the xm command to group and manage my VMs. I used sudo to grant
privileges for each student to start, stop, console into, reboot, and wipe
their VMs without any interaction from me. Now with XCP I had the hope of
moving to the

bge on the new Mac Mini
Hi all,
Over the last month or so I've installed FreeBSD 9 (-stable) on several Mac
Minis via the memstick image; they seem to be pretty good little boxes for
things like offsite secondary nameservers, for example, and they're easily
replaced in case of problems.
However, the newest minis have slightly different hardware, and FreeBSD can't
find the built-in NIC. pciconf -lv on the

How to properly bridge the network to CentOS under Parallels on a Macbook Pro?
Hi all,
I have recently acquired a Macbook Pro (sweet machine!) from my
employer, and one of the tasks the machine has to do is to run a
distributed software development platform (called Splice) under Linux.
For this task, I have chosen the trusty CentOS 4.4, and I have it set
up in Parallels. So far, so good. Now then, the network does work
within CentOS, but I want to assign it a fixed

This series hasn't seen any reviews or acks unfortunately.
Any takers?
Merging this would allow fdo #61115 to be closed
(currently assigned to intel-gfx).
FWIW this series has in the meantime been tested by more folks:

[PATCH v3 0/6] Enable gpu switching on the MacBook Pro
The pre-retina MacBook Pro uses an LVDS panel and a gmux controller
to switch the panel between its two GPUs. The panel mode in VBIOS
is notoriously bogus on these machines and some models have no
VBIOS at all, so the inactive GPU cannot set up its LVDS output.
Extend vga_switcheroo to support switching only the DDC lines.
Introduce a drm_get_edid_switcheroo() helper which uses this feature.

CentOS 5 Beta on a MacBook Pro
FYI, I just installed CentOS 5 beta with the SMP kernel in a VMWare
fusion virtual machine on my 2.33 GHz 15 inch MacBook Pro.
The installation was flawless. I installed from an NFS share on my
network with the ISO images. The vm booted disc one and recognized
my 802.11n wireless connection as eth0. The install took about 30
minutes.
Everything worked fine...

Hello there,
i am trying
to create a VM using xcp on my system, with os Ubuntu 11.10. I’ve got 3 server

a server to another, but actually I am having few problems.

nouveau Macbook EDID fix upstreaming...
It looks like Ryan's Nouveau patch [1,2] to get the I2C working for
EDID (thus modelines) is crucial for avoiding the Nvidia binary
drivers on MacbookPro 2012s.
Any plans/chance for it to be upstreamed to eg 3.6-rc3?
Many thanks,
Daniel
