c4.4: OpenSSL Behavior: handshakes/ nrpe, snmpd, et al.
Hello list, johnny, karanbir, rodrigo, william, all,
Looks like some changes in 4.4 with openssl behavior I thought to ask
about now that things have quieted down slightly since release.
I use openssl with my nagios nrpe plugins, and now am getting a "could not
complete SSL handshake". I will of course post to nagios list but first
want to find out from centos side some key info re:

snmpd log messages
I updated to CentOS 4.5 yesterday and now I am finding the snmpd daemon
is logging reams and reams of these messages:
May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: Connection from - 127.0.0.1
May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: transport socket = 12
Is there a way to turn off this useless logging? I am getting these
every 5 minutes (every time MRTG updates my MailScanner statistics).
So far what I tried

how do I set the listening IP on snmpd?
Hi,
Does anyone know if it''s possible to set a listening IP on snmpd?
On a CentOS 5.2 domU, it listens on 0.0.0.0 (effectively every IP on
the machine),
root@vps:[/]$ netstat -an | grep 161
udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:161 0.0.0.0:*
Yet, on a Debian 4.0 domU, it listens on 127.0.0.1.
sh-2.05b# netstat -an |grep 161
udp 0 0 127.0.0.1:161

the unique $servername variable became a singleton
Do you have any idea how to get around this? I am pretty tired at the
moment and cant think of any good solution.

ast-ax-snmpd release 0.3
Hi to all,
today I have released the version 0.3 of ast-ax-snmpd.
It is some code that adds the snmp subagent functionality to asterisk,
using the ucd snmp framework and following the agentX standard.
It has tested under debian woody, with specific version of ucd_snmp,
so your mileage may vary.
I am evaluating to transfer this effort under a more recent net-snmp
umbrella,
this could permit

snmpd not working well with selinux?
Hello,
I am trying to use SNMP on a CentOS 6.2 server, and am using the
'pass_persist' configuration command:
pass_persist .1.3.6.1.4.1.141.1 /usr/local/sbin/snmp-iostat
I have set the file context of 'snmpd_exec_t' on the snmp-iostat
program.
If I disable SELinux, then it all works fine (that is, I can then
snmpget/snmpwalk for OIDs in the configured pass_persist OID,

services do not get restarted
Hello List,
We are using puppet to manage a growing number of Debian Etch based
servers (currently 70). Since upgrading to 0.22.4 we encountered
a problem when services do not restarted on puppets request.
For example the Nagios remote plugin executor daemon (nrpe). It''s running
daemonized and its confiugration is located in /etc/nagios/nrpe.cfg. This
file is managed through puppet

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply. I do have nrpe running under xinetd on the host I'm
trying to monitor.
And running the nrpe checl locally:
[root at ops:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H localhost
NRPE v2.15
[root at ops:~] #grep only_from /etc/xinetd.d/nrpe
only_from = 127.0.0.1 216.120.248.126
And I do have port 5666 open on the security group for this host.

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Oh my mistake. I mean nrpe without parameters. It should say something
about SSL/TLS aktiv or so.
You could test nrpe without SSL. Use nrpe -n - H host

I don't seem to have that command.
[root at monitor1:~] #find / -name "*nrpr" 2> /dev/null
[root at monitor1:~] #
And that's on either system.
And if I do an ldd on both, this is what I can tell:

Could not complete SSL handshake to Amazon EC2 host
Hello,
I am trying to monitor a host in the Amazon EC2 cloud.
Yet when I try to check NRPE from the monitoring host I am getting an SSL
handshake error:
[root at monitor1:~] #/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H ops.jokefire.com
CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.
And if I telnet into the host on port 5666 to see if the FW port is open,
the connection closes right away:

Solaris snmpd/init.sma service
First off, new to puppet here, but so far it''s been exceptionally easy
to install and get running. I''ve got it on a handful of solaris 10/x86
zones, and it''s working well.
I had one gotcha that I ran into, which turned out to be a combination
of a sun bug and and just some slight weirdness. I was trying to get
the stock solaris snmpd service running (net-snmp 5, by

Overriding variables.
I am trying to override variables in a class that is defined in the default
node profile. I want parent class to be included in every single node, but
override its variables in others. I have tried it several different ways
now, and every single time the variables either become unset (undefined) or
are set to the value of the first if statement.
Here is my current iteration of failure.

installing Nagios client with selinux enabled
Hi, I''m new to Puppet so may be going about this completely the wrong
way, or perhaps it is an selinux problem rather than a Puppet problem.
I have a problem copying a file and changing the seltype. I don''t
think it is Nagios specific. Code is something like:
file {
''/usr/sbin/nrpe'':
source =>
