Re: Swiss Hosts for Ruby on Rails
Why exactly does your customer want a Swiss host? Is it for "patriotic" reasons, or do they think it''ll be quicker? If they think it''s going to be quicker, you should let them know that with an American host the difference would be negligeable and with a German host, it would be pretty much impossible to measure a difference. But, if using a swiss host is really

mirror's choice when installing a package for R-2.5.0 (PR#9643)
Hello, Just a quick message to say that, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------- when choosing (with or without the tcltk window) "Bern 1 (swiss)" as CRAN mirror to install a package (function install.packages) for R-2.5.0, the list of available packages for osx seems not complete: AMORE, AdaptFit, AlgDesign, AnalyzeFMRI, SemiPar,

help with randomisation test...
Dear R-people, I hope asking this is not too cheeky, but I do have a R Problem. I hope that some of you like to play around with R and can help me. Its like this. I have several plant species (A,B,C) and 10 replicates per species. 5 plants per species are damaged, 5 not. I let a caterpillar feed on each plant and measured the growth of the caterpillars on control plants (CR) and on damaged

PDL model
Dear r-help team: Is a package implemented in R which includes a function that calculates polynomial distributed lag models (also: Almon models, pdl-model)? Provided a pdl function is available, can it be applied to robust statistics like MM-estimators? Thanks in advance! mutlicollinearity and MM-regression
Dear R users, Usually the variance-inflation factor, which is based on R^2, is used as a measure for multicollinearity. But, in contrast to OLS regression there is no robust R^2 available for MM-regressions in R. Do you know if an equivalent or an alternative nmeasure of multicollinearity is available for MM-regression in R? With best regards, Carsten Colombier Dr. Carsten Colombier Economist

Error message in lmer
Dear list I try to run a bootstrap with lmer. I often, but not always, get the error message: Error in objective(.par, ...) : Leading minor of order 6 in downdated X'X is not positive definite (with the number (here 6) varying) In R-archives I came across some threads that treated this problem, nevertheless they refer to lmer when using it with family = "binomial", so the

Improved HTML Reporting Functions
Hello Everyone, First, I'd like to appologize for the e-mail confirmation that was attached to my last message. It was entirely unintentional. I've attached a set of R files that make writing HTML reports very easy. I basically combined the HTML functions I wrote previously, David Dahl's xtable from CRAN, and then wrote a series of wrapper functions to automagically write the

isoMDS and stress
Hi all, I try to calculate the stress of a configuration using the formula in the isoMDS help, but I don't have the same result than the stress returned by isoMDS : > library(mva) > library(MASS) > data(swiss) > swiss.x <- as.matrix(swiss[,-1]) > swiss.dist <- dist(swiss.x) > swiss.mds <- isoMDS(swiss.dist) initial value 2.979731 iter 5 value 2.431486 iter 10

shared hostings: how to compare/evaluate them (aka: "Rails needs a index")
Hi all, New offers for cheap Rails hosting keep popping-up at an increasing pace. - Are they any good? - Is this 60$/year plan good enough for me? - "Is DreamHost any good, despite the hundreds of accounts per server?" - Will plan Z support the load/traffic my client expect? - Is this 60$/month plan @ hoster X better than the 14$/month plan @ hoster Y - Why is

how to test the existence of a name in a dataframe
I wanted to test if there exists already a name (which is incidentally a substring of another name) in a dataframe. I did e.g.: > data(swiss) > names(swiss) [1] "Fertility" "Agriculture" "Examination" "Education" [5] "Catholic" "Infant.Mortality" > ! is.null(swiss$EduX) [1] FALSE > !

Best Subsets regression
Hi, I have found a minor problem with leaps(). In 1.3.1 under Windows 2000 I seem to only be able to obtain values for one statistic at a time. That is choosing method=c("Cp","adjr2","r2") just gives Cp values. To mimic the output of Minitab's MTB > BReg 'Fertility' 'Agriculture'-'Infant.Mortality' ; SUBC> NVars 1 5; SUBC>

Question to use R plot GO pie chart
Hi, I have a list of IPI gene IDs. I want to find out whether there is a package which can map the gene ontology to these IPIs, and plot the pie chart to demonstrate the molecular function distributions. The input is like the following gene IPI IDs: IPI:IPI00008860.1|SWISS-PROT:Q9BXJ4-1|TREMBL:Q542Y2|ENSEMBL:ENSP00000231338;EN

swiss.x
Is the swiss data set in R the same as S dataset swiss.x . I was trying out some clustering by doing the following that I got from Venables and Ripley's book. h<-hclus(dist(swiss.x), method= "connected") plclust(h) cutree(h,3) plclust(clorder(h,cutree(h,3))) I tried swiss instead of swiss.x, it doesnot seem happy.
