STUN vs NAT Helper
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend one over the other. I'm mostly interested in running open source solutions, so I would prefer if your recommendations are within the open source arena. Basically, I contemplated the idea of using SER as a NAT Helper and possibly as a SIP server for a portion of our user base. We prefer to have Asterisk in the mix because of the additional

Wireless LANs and Asterisk
Has anyone had any experience with wireless LANs and Asterisk? We have and here are my impressions. We configured an Asterisk in the office as a precaution to see how it would work for our own retail customers. Our office is open space, about 800 sq ft. (20x40 area). We use Snom200 and Grandstream SIP phones. Using the latest Linksys wireless access point (WAP54g) and 3 wireless bridges

Asterisk both behind a NAT and outside at the same time
I've read a lot of the descriptions of handling NAT with Asterisk, and the use of both the nat and canreinvite flags. I am very familiar with Sip and NAT but have not seen an answer to the following question. My Asterisk server runs on a machine with two ethernets. One is an external net, with exposed IP addresses. The other is an internal net with natted IP addresses. Thus the server

How to secure access to PSTN line through Linksys gateway?
Hello I successfully hooked up a Linksys 3102 SIP gateway (http://www.voip-info.org/users/683/21683/images/716/SPA3102_lrg.jpg) to an Asterisk server, but since it's connected to a PSTN line, I must make sure it cannot be used by unauthorized users from the Net. Actually, even legit users with an account on the Asterisk server shouldn't be able to use it (outgoing calls should go

Sipura 2000 behind NAT issue, Vonage is working
Hi, I'm trying to configure Sipura 2000 (behind NAT) which connects to Asterisk (public IP, no NAT) and having interesting results. When Sipura is behind Linux/NAT firewall it works great and no special NAT settings on Sipura are necessary. The issue I'm having is when Sipura is behind Linksys broadband NAT router. Sipura gets registered with Asterisk just fine, but I can't hear

Routing squid to a different gateway
Hi all, I''ve been using shorewall 3 (3.4.8 now) for a while on a simple gateway setup for my office. Routing is enabled only for a few hosts and all user access the internet thru squid, which is running on the shorewall box. I have a few other services on this box and some others on another server, but they don''t matter for what I need. Quick and dirty schematics to illustrate

CentOS or other Linux Internet Router/Gateway
Hi Everyone, I've got kids who are growing older and I want to build a Linux box to filter Internet access. I've got six computers on the Internet, plus the laptops -- most run Windows. I'm not sure if it's called a router or gateway or...? I don't mind doing the leg work, I just don't know where to start. I'm pretty sure I'm *not* looking for a web server (though

Should a Linksys Sipura 2102 be configured with nat=yes even if it is on the local network?
Should a Linksys Sipura 2102 be configured with nat=yes even if it is on the local network? I have been having some troubles with a Linksys Sipura 2100 series, which suffers from NO AUDIO after a few calls.. Because it is on the same subnet as Asterisk it is configured with nat=no. When you think of it because the Sipura 2100 is a broadband router, the voice part may be considered as being behind

Rsync Troubles after NAT router firmware Upgrade.
Hello, I have been using rsync for a long time to send web files from a development server to a production server. It worked great until a few days ago when I upgraded the firmware on the Linksys BEFSR11 Router that the production server is behind. The development server is also behind the same model router, and both servers are connected to the cable network (Internet) using Surfboard cable

NAT issue (i think?)
Hi All. got this problem that IP phones could not re-register to my server. even if device is power cycled it still would not register. the solution i found was to change the SIP port settings on the phone and it will register. but after registration expires and its time to re-register the same thing will happen, so i have to update the port settings again just to make it work which is

Cisco 7960 nat problems.
I have a asterisk server running on site listening on a public ip. Tonight I attempted to connect a Cisco 7960 phone from my home location via sip but failed. My home network is simple, Cox cable connection hooked to a linksys wrt router. The firewall on the linksys router is disabled and I even setup dmz to the phones ip as a last resort. I removed the linksys router and plugged the phone

NAT keep-alive
Hi, On my linksys/sipura phones/ATA, there is a setting called "NAT Mapping Enable" and another called "NAT Keep Alive Enable" These settings must be on in my setup so that my phones/ATA remain connected to my * server. My setup is: Home LAN - Pfsense (NAT, Dynamic Public IP)- Internet - PFsense (1-to-1 NAT, Static public IP) - Asterisk server. I was wondering:

Shorewall & IPSec gateway
To all, I''ve just recently finished my "Security Gateway Server" project which separates a 10 laptop WLAN subnet from our main LAN/Internet network. I used Debian Sarge with kernel 2.6.9/ipsec-netfilter patched, and Shorewall 2.2.0-RC3 on a Asus P4S533, 2.4 GHz PenIV and 512MB memory. The Toshiba A60-S166, PenIV, 2.4G laptops run Windows XP Pro and have internal Atheros based

Why does "sip show peers" show my router/gateway address as the client IP address?
Hi Everyone, I am using pfSense to do firewall and NAT on an Asterisk server. I have ports 5060 TCP/UDP and 10k-20k UDP forwarded to the Asterisk server local IP 192.168.5.5. However, when a user from outside using Linksys WRP400 ata connects to the Asterisk server and registers I see them as 192.168.1.1 in the "sip show peers" command. In face, all many different of the Linksys WRP400

Improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page
Hello, I have a suggestion to improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page. At present the description is very large. You need to scroll to find the tickets and more importantly the list of pages. I think a shorter description along the lines of http://i48.tinypic.com/2z6a7lt.png would be much better. All the information at present in the description can be moved into pages, and they can be linked

Conecting to asterisk server through NAT using IAX

Polycom autoprovision behind a NAT
I am having an issue with doing FTP auto provisioning of Polycom 501's when they are behind a NAT. If I put the phone on the same subnet as the provision server it loads the configs and changes fine but as soon as I put in behind a NAT it comes up with cannot contact boot server. I have tried behind and replicated this behind a PIX 501, a Linksys SOHO router and a Motorolla SOHO router.

Help! - Double NAT issue
Hi folks. Please don't flame me but I've been googling around for days, read a tremendous amount, tried everything, and still no go. This is most definitely a typical newbie question. - I sure hope there's somebody(s) out there who'll humble themselves to help me out. I've set up an 'out of the box' basic Asterisk server running on Slackware Linux. - It basically

Need Adapter/Gateway with PSTN-interface
I am looking for a gateway/ATA that can take conversations on the analogue line (PSTN) and send them to the Asterisk server on the private network. I was experimenting with the Atcom AG-188N but the "FXO"-port only supports lifeline, so it's not a real FXO-port that can send incoming calls to my private Asterisk-server. Could someone advice on a gateway that can take analogue calls
